Can you hear the difference between the front and back of sound on CD?

I seems to have a hard time distinguishing between the two. How about you guys? My brain often misinterprets sounds coming from behind. I can recognize them if there's a connection between the sounds. During free-talk, when the VA circles around the microphone, I can hear it clearly.

To be honest I don't know how or why, but I can tell... it's a bit strange now that I think about it.
