In the summer of 2022, the "Okutama Lion Dance" children's preservation society, started by Akari Waku (Nobuko Akatsuki), is in full practice. The society is being supported by "Tonari no Jiji" (Tsunehisa Murata) and Izumi (Minami Fujii), who are watching over the children while offering them watermelon. Meanwhile, a commotion occurs in Okutama when Akari's childhood friend, Shingo (Reo Tamaki), returns to the town after several years. However, Shingo's father, Taizo (Takehiko Ono), is not happy to see him and tries to chase him away. Just then, a dead body is discovered in a rented villa, and the initial suspicion of suicide is later changed to murder. The victim is revealed to be an accomplice in a robbery case that Shingo was involved in, and the new investigator, Hiroshi Mikoshiba (Seiji Fukushi), starts to suspect Shingo's involvement.
