If your regional settings look like this screenshot, you shouldn't be getting garbled text Since you say you didn't install JP language, you obviously didn't have all settings changed to JP

You need to set 'display language' to Japanese. Some versions of Windows don't have the feature, not sure of other workarounds

I like the idea to protect against transloading. If someone buys and shares a game with no intent of profit, you should respect his wishes or buy it yourself. I don't buy games but if I did I probably wouldn't share because I hate the thought of someone profiting from it.
