honestly, i'm perfectly fine with both. i don't mind if the common route is longer as long as it has a nice plot and introduces the main characters well so i won't suffer when it's time to choose a route. sometimes otomes have a really nice balance even if the common is longer than routes...

usually i prefer to follow the recommended order but if the guide says it doesn't matter, i want to finish the less appealing routes first so as not to lose interest by the end
