I prefer a mix of both. Enough to self-insert, but also enough for the character to feel fully engaged and moving along the story. If the MCs personality is completely customizable, I find the story falls a little flat, unfortunately :(

Honestly was not expecting that poll result! I like to self-insert into stories as it makes it slightly emotionally easier to engage, and imagining myself stepping into the world the writers craft feels magical. If I want to read about characters on their own, I usually just pick up a book.

I do not like it. It speaks to laziness, and if they're willing to use AI for art then they're likely to use it for the writing as well, resulting in characters and story lacking depth.
