Definitely a short common route and longer character routes! I much prefer getting to the actual character's story sooner, and I'd rather have more time with each LI and their individual route.

I almost always prefer the MC to be the bottom ❤️ It's actually something that can make me less interested in a BL if the MC is exclusively the top. I can't really explain why, but I just enjoy the dynamic more when the MC is the bottom and the LIs are the tops. 😂

I usually follow a guide and do the good ending first! 😂 It just feels more natural to me, like I'm getting the proper continuation of the route first. Then I go back and do all the bad endings afterwards.
