  1. GUIDE: First Steps to Learning Japanese (and playing otome without waiting for translations)

This is so nicely put together! I'm sure it's gonna be a huge help to many people here!! :mini_ty:
  2. Do You Like Similar Characters or a Variety of Types?

I feel like my taste has narrowed as I've gotten older. I started liking mysterious characters but ended up falling for awkward, nerdy guys...
  3. What do you value more in otome: the plot or the romance?

Romance SHOULD be the plot, no?
  4. How did you discover the r18 cd scene?

    It's been so long I don't even remember 💀
  5. What's a red flag you can forgive in a fictional character but would never tolerate in real life?

Hmm the biggest red flag would be... being a man, isn't it? HAHAHA jk I actually don't care about relationships at all in real life so I prefer to keep romance in the realm of fiction.
  6. Do you like the type where the characters frequently change their outfits?

Yes, absolutely! It shows dedication on the part of the developer and also helps to shape the character's own personality in subtle ways imo!
  7. What scents would you use to describe your favorite LI?

Mabuchi Meiyou - The scent of incense and wooden sandals blended with the earthy fragrance of the ground and a faint floral aroma. Funnily enough, he wouldn't use perfume at all. It's all about natural scents.
  8. What is your favorite type of Heroine

Yurika Arisu from TaishoxAlice would be the perfect archetype for what I would consider a perfect heroine. I loved her in all the routes but especially so in Gretel's and the Magician's routes.
  9. Otome and menstruation

I wouldn't say that my preferences change during that period as much as the intensity of my craving for them. I'm much more willing to accept suggestive stories... I wish to someday encounter an ASMR that features period sex but I'm aware that kind of thing isn't that socially acceptable in...
  10. Full romance overdrive or slow burn?

    Slow burn all the way.
  11. Do you get FOMO easily?

I think people are more prone to those kind of feelings when they're on Twitter and looking at what other gamers post. For better or worse, after I got my Japanese skills to a certain level, the people I was willing to interact with had greatly diminished (specifically because being an adult...
  12. Do you guys have any specific tag that you like in Otome Voice Drama?

I noticed I really like pathetic-sounding virgin males, and 女性優位 specifically because of the mental aspect as the actual bodily aspect of the relationship doesn't matter at all to me.
  13. What do you think about mini-games in otome?

I don't like them because I feel they make me lose time of actually reading the story.
  14. Why are otome games so popular?

They're not popular lmao it's a niche inside of a niche. Unless you're talking about popular Chinese games which have a lot of capital backing them up so success is guaranteed...
  15. Does it bother you that most VNs only give you two options when making choices?

It used to bother me at the beginning but now I understand the logistics of making this all work so I don't fault them now. I appreciate the simplicity for what it is.
  16. .

As closer to reality as possible tbh, I don't know why but fantasy just bores me. Well, making real life scenarios sound appealing is part of the challenge for the writer in a way.
  17. Canon MC name vs Self-Insert?

I always use the predetermined name as I love it when the LIs say it out loud. It's just as exciting to me as if they'd be saying my own name so I don't think this is because I don't self-insert.
  18. Which otome studio do you think is the best?

None, the best stuff nowadays is doujin/indie.
  19. Do you play joke/meme games?

No, I'd better prefer to use my time to read actual stuff that I have in my backlog and a lot of the times joke vns are just a disguise to sell contempt for the medium to the original target audience. Actual parodies would be made with love for the medium by someone who's very knowledgeable...
  20. Do you think Japanese creators should take down games from their dark history period?

There's nothing we can do about this. It's one of the cultural differences Japanese creators have in comparison to the West.
