holy shit thank you so much. im not a heavy selfinserter (mainly because im an idiot and i dont fully understand how it works) but the behaviour of some "wall" girls really ticks me off.. the way they praise every heroine while simultaneously putting down yumejoshi as if the genre wasnt created for them? and isnt being sponsored by them? how does it even make sense?

but whats even weirder is that some of them outright state "i dont even care about love interests lolol frankly i wanna date the heroine lol!" then in the very next tweet "those who tell me to play galge or read shoujo manga fuck off<3 thats different<3" how. literally how. unlike in otome, you arent expected to selfinsert into shoujo manga, and with galge, you can date all the cute girls in the world! so why not?

(dont get me wrong i also love heroines but to say youre more in love with them than the love interests really makes me wonder why are you even playing otome in the first place..)

im sure youve seen that tweet that was putting down lads players with words like "unlike cn otome jp otome dont want to attract those crazy parasocials which is why all heroines are so distinct" NO thats not how it fucking works!!! the entire genre is parasocial by default!!!!! if it wasnt, the virche controversy wouldve never happened!!!!!!!

They insist that galge is just too male-gazey for them and they want stories about women written thinking of women and ignore um THE ENTIRE ROMANCE BOOK GENRE FOR EXAMPLE? LIKE SERIOUSLY im sure i've seen some of the same people crying GO PLAY OTOME to those who said that one time they self-inserted into books now saying otome isn't for self-inserts...

And they just say omg no shojo manga isn't the same! I did see the twt you mentioned! Heroine fans make it so hard not to hate heroines in fandom space at least omg. Writers, designers, the whole fucking company of their favorite games could scream in their faces HEROINE=PLAYER and they'd still say. my daughter! shesheshe she'll never never ever be you delusional self-insert! you can almost hear them telling us to go die in a ditch at some point tbh

And I mean, that's what they do with every CN otome anyway when they literally say the only heroine is the player... can't expect much tbh but to say JP otoge don't want parasocial fans...? dating sims are parasocial by nature, they're saying it's not parasocial to spend hundreds of hours listening and reading romantic voicelines in a first person POV and making the conscious choice of romancing some guy...

The whole "I wannna date the heroine" thing makes me super uncomfortable too like... there are even some girls as LI in otome... and there's yuri and galge and amare... It's so annoying WHY WOULD I NEED TO GO TO SECONDARY WORKS TO YUME A PRIMARILY YUME SOURCE MATERIAL BUDDY EXPLAIN THAT TO ME like I'm a fanfic writer and enjoyer myself and *have* used the default heroine as a separate character for plot purposes but... in the official works... that's just our setting... orz

Even works like virche and utapri have a special place in my smol heart... specially mathis LMAO I love that guy and his route so much it makes me sad how ppl seem to hate him the most for some reason when they should be hating capucine. and utpr is nostalgia + i just started playing it and it's been hilarious

WAIT LMAO YOURE SO CORRECT they say you cant make choices in manga, but if you want to make choices, it already means you look at the story from your own perspective!! otherwise you would just read kinetic vns like succulent and nothing more!

i also saw someone using the argument of "if they didnt intend to make the heroine a separate character, they wouldnt give her a default name and a design and a backstory etc etc" is this not made so that you, the reader, could have the starting point in the story.. no....? most games with nameable protagonist have a default name, including those icky nasty galge.

most of these protags, although often lacking in designs, also have extensive backstories and an important place in plot! yet you wouldnt even think of arguing galge are not made for selfinserting, right?

it almost reads like "holier than thou", like somehow not selfinserting makes them better. no it doesnt. if you praise the heroines while putting down ACTUAL GIRLS PLAYING GAMES, youre doing the community a great disservice. i just dont understand why western girlies engage with non-western works if they are unwilling to accept non-western views and values...;;

and i dont want to sound like some massive heroine hater, because god knows im not! i love yui to death for example, but at the same time i dont like how the company pushes her merch so hard. arent you supposed to sell guys to me? is this too much to ask..?;w;
and some heroines, especially yui, tend to attract male audience who simp for her. hard. this is also uncomfortable..
