have you ever liked a character because of their appearance but disliked their personality, or the opposite? how do you feel about that?

I can still endure a look I don't love if I like their personality (any appearance is good, I guess). For example, I love Orlok's design, but his route wasn't my cup of tea. I only know the gist of his route because I was skipping like crazy!

For me, LI needs an attractive personality, that's what hooks me the most. Even a trash LI is much better than LI who is like an empty vessel.

If his personality isn't to my taste, no matter how beautiful his appearance is, he will never win my heart. But if his personality is my taste, his appearance will always be my favorite.

i also move on bc if i hate the personality i don't even want to see the character on screen!! no matter how good-looking he is

Sometimes, I wonder why their personalities went so bad but their appearance is my type. Even so, I don't read those manhwa and just read spoilers from social media. Since, I cannot stand if their personalities is so bad even their appearance. I feel like their behavior can trigger negative emotions within me and its not healthy to read those characters in it. It give me high blood pressure aka I have low blood pressure problems. I wish the characters show kindness each other and respect boundaries with female lead.
 
Eh, well kinda off right? Disappointed but I guess I have no right to criticize since I judge them by their looks, but they are built that way, by any reason, simply just pass this one. It sucks when the inside doesn't match the outside

their route execution, story and character development is what grip me on whether i can like the character or not. In many case is that i actually liking their character design but ended disappointed because their route/development didn't do any justice. If it's the opposite then i'd like their character regardless. What's important is their inner heart than their outward appearance, perhaps? 👀

LI that i think i like the design but disappointed with their characterization/route execution is: Shigehira, Akihiko from norn9(i'm sorry for his fans but his romance execution on his route...) and there's also molly who makes me errr due to his both dark end route.

LI that i think have eccentric/flashy/weird design but makes me fond of their route thus making me appreciate his character a lot is: Noritsune, Noil, Yori (well well..his personality is trash his design is mediocre to me and to add what's with that mole on his right neck bruh HELLO? is that for fan service!? okay that's aside his route execution is good! the end of his route..yep! he deserved it. I mean it! :satisfiedsmile:)

As for side character there's Marie Antoinette from BaraVeri who i find pretty but her role ended up as somewhat MC's rival on certain route, her characterization at the start is neutral and then she became spoiled b**ch and then she's kinda redeemed near the end of the story(?) which make me confused whether i end up liking her character or not.

Yeah, the last game I cleared was Hana Awase, and I liked most of the guys' designs except for 1 but their personalities were underwhelming me despite that I even liked the great VA casting too. If the actual route is terrible itself or he never redeems himself in the plot, then I give up and move to the next likeable LI fast and forget him sadly.
 
I've had this happen so many times so I'm not surprised anymore, but man, this little shit from MajeMajo was something else. 😂 I love Hakuseki's art, his seiyuu is Kaji Yuuki, but I cannot stand him. So, I also just move on, though not without keeping a petty grudge, haha.
 
Everyone from Un:BIRTHDAY SONG felt like this for me. Maybe it's because I felt like it kind of never delivered, but when I came to remotely like everyone after the common route, everyone just disappointed me in one way or another, even though I really liked their character designs and thought that Shizuru would surely enter my LI hall of fame.

I think Zen disappointed me the most. I didn't like how his story was handled, but more than that, I couldn't get past how violent he was out of the blue in some moments, and how it was never really acknowledged. It really soured his character for me :frown: Still, I really like all of their designs. I think Satoi did an amazing job, and it's a shame it just wasn't a game for me.
 
Its a shame Ryuki from CupiPara has such a pretty face since hes genuinely a little bitch
 
If I dislike the personality, but like the appearance I would be angry with it to be honest because no good looks or beauty can ever erase the fact that you're a terrible character but the opposite of this is endearing to me because I would look past looks and find something precious and lovable !

Sometimes it just happens, if I like the appearance but not the personality I usually gravitate more to another character, and if I like the personality but not the aplearance, I usually end up liking that character more
 
Totally. A great design with a bad personality feels like a missed opportunity, but a plain character with an amazing route is always a pleasant surprise

Tsuyukusa. I love his design, and I don't really have a problem with the personality either; but his route just isn't for me. I think, it was the biggest waste of potential.
 
Auger from Black Wolves Saga was so my type looks-wise, but… hahaha.. his personality was an absolute nightmare. Truly terrifying. 😭 If anyone here likes Auger, I'm sorry! I actually gave up on completing the whole game after finishing his route… hahaha.
 
I think ultimately I do value a character's personality more than anything.

There have been many times where I was excited to play a character's route solely for their appearance only to be met with disappointment. In other cases, I've gone into routes not expecting much only to be pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy the character's personality.

I find it easy for a character's appearance to grow on me after getting attached to them. A character's design is definitely important though, as well as their voice.

In that case, just skip it.
If the visuals are definitely my style but the rest isn't, I'll just have to sadly scroll past...😭😭
 
Sometimes I play a route for a character I'm interested in, only to find it's not for me.
But usually, I end up liking them more.
