Do you listen to a drama CD for the voice actor or for the story?

I usually listen to the drama cd for the voice actor. If the storyline match my taste I would buy it too. I love summer story.

Absolutely for the voice actor. Even if i cant understand jp I would still listen to their cds

Both! But I tend to prioritize the writer over the voice actors, so I guess I'm leaning more towards the plot/story.

I thought I was more of a voice-actor-focused listener, but if I don't like the genre, I won't listen even if my favorite VA is in it. So maybe I'm actually more story-focused 🤔 Of course, I'll also give a CD a try if I like the VA!

Honest answer? If I have to choose, story wins every time.

A favorite voice actor will definitely get me to hit play on something I'd otherwise ignore—their performances can make mediocre dialogue sound like absolute gold. But a great cast can only carry a bad script for so long. If the plot is a slog or the writing is paper-thin, my immersion completely shatters no matter who is behind the mic.

On the flip side, a compelling, well-written plot will keep me hooked from start to finish, even with a cast of total unknowns. When you get both top-tier writing and a phenomenal cast, that's pure magic—but if I'm picking a main driver, give me a good plot every day.

Hands down the voice actor. For me, I can bare any story if a voice actor I love is in it. LOL but a nice story is appreciated.

Mostly for the voice actor, especially if I really like their voice or already know them from other games or anime. I enjoy hearing their performance and the way they bring the characters to life. But if the story is interesting too, that definitely makes me want to keep listening. So I'd say the voice actor is the main reason, but a good story is a nice bonus.

I'm more story-focused! A good plot and trope are what catch my interest first, but having a great VA is definitely a huge bonus.

Unfortunately, the kind of stories I like aren't the most common, so whenever I find one that appeals to me, I'll definitely listen to it regardless of who the voice actors are lol
Voice actors these days are all amazing, so for me, the story is the top priority🫶🏻

I agree! Even if a work features a voice actor with a voice I really like, I find it hard to listen if the story doesn't sound interesting. But if there's a character that really interests me, I sometimes give it a try and focus more on the character than the story!

It depends on the situation.

When I'm looking for something to buy myself, I usually search by the voice actor's name first and then look into what kind of story the work has.

When someone recommends a work to me here on the forum, though, I'll usually give it a listen regardless of which voice actor it features.

Even if it's one of my favorite voice actors, I won't necessarily listen to it if I'm not interested in the story itself. So in the end, whether it's actually a good story is what matters most to me. 🤭

First, I get attracted by the character design (moreover, the portrait) , and then if I see that the voice actor is one of my favorites, that's definitely a plus, so I'll give it a try and listen to it hahaha. Usually, I don't pay too much attention to the plot—it mostly depends on the theme.

I just want to listen to the voice I like, without worrying about the story.
But if I don't like the story, I probably won't listen to it again.

I actually listen based on the voice actor, but I do get upset if the story is not as good. Like, I pick CDs based on my favorite voice actors, and then bc they are my fav VAs I have high expectation and demand for the story to be as good as the VAs skill. If the story is actually good, it'll be a high rate cd for me and will make my day bright :D. If the story is actually not that good but bc it's still voiced by my fav va, I just treat it as "oh well, I still got to hear my fav va so all is well" something like this. This also make me very happy if I found/heard a great story but not voiced by my fav VAs, it'd be like a great surprise xD

That depends on what type of CD you're listening to.

If it's an R18-oriented CD, I care more about the voice actor. If it's a story-driven one, then the voice actor isn't that important, since you're listening for the plot content anyway. But for a story-based CD, the voice actor chosen for a character definitely has to match well, that way the listening experience is even better.o.

same! its always the story first, especially if it comes from a spesific circle that i like so the story is more guaranteed i'll like. Bonus if its a voice actor i like, but i definitely would listen to anything if i like the story regardless of the voice actor (makes me know more va's too!)
