What would you think of otome games without the option to change the MC's name?

To be honest, I don't really care. Usually, I only name the heroine if she doesn't have a default name in the game and it asks me to enter one.

I always use the default name anyway, so I wouldn't really mind if there was no option to change the MC's name. But if the MC has a really strong personality or is so different from me that I can't relate to her, then that's a problem.

I know most otome games try to make the MC's personality pretty neutral and unobtrusive so that as many players as possible can project themselves onto her, but even then, if she says or does something that I would absolutely never say or do, it can completely break my immersion.

So for me, the name isn't really the important part. What matters most is whether I can actually immerse myself in the MC.

I'd actually prefer if the MC's name couldn't be changed. It makes her feel more like an actual character with her own identity, especially when she already has a defined personality and backstory. I also don't mind the option to change it though, it really depends on the game.

i like to self-insert so i prefer ones that i can change the mc's name, so i can immerse more! though if i can't then it can't be helped, i'll still play it regardless!

Honestly nothing would change for me. I never change mc's name; I love me a voiced name drop here and there.

Unless a game is built for full self-inserting, I always just keep the default name, so I don't mind. I really dislike when character audio suddenly drops out for the name, so I'm a huge fan of games that have voiced default names.

I usually play games with the default name anyway, so I don't feel disappointed even when the name can't be changed.

One thing I really like about games with voice acting is that sometimes the default name is actually voiced, too. I think that's a really nice touch!

I guess I like self inserting so I would prefer changeable name but if it is not possible,it is not a big deal for me!

Like most commenters, I usually keep the character's original name. Especially if that means the name is spoken by the voice actors.
I don't identify with the protagonist, and I consider most games to be interactive stories, so it's not a problem for me :)

I usually stick with the default name, and I also like it when the protagonist has a strong personality, so I don't really mind either way. But there are also a lot of players who enjoy immersing themselves in the protagonist, so unless there's a specific reason not to, I think it's better to let players choose the name freely. I don't imagine it would be that difficult to implement, either.

Personally, it makes no difference to me whether I can change the protagonist's name or not; I'm perfectly fine with it if I can't, since I usually just stick with the default or factory-set name.
Note: The only times I've had to change it to my own name were in games like Amnesia: Memories or Mystic Messenger, where the female leads don't have a predefined name—in those cases, I did use my real name.
