What got you interested in otome games?

I think I got into otome through anime! I started getting really into anime, which eventually led me to discover otome games. If I remember correctly, my first one was Starry Sky in Spring, and I just kept playing them from there. 😂💕
 
What got me interested was when I found mystic messenger by accident and really loved it. It felt immersive and was really fun.
 
I got interested in it because a lot of my favorite voice actors were involved. I'm not particularly good at games, but since you can progress without needing high-level gaming skills, even someone like me—who isn't very skilled—was able to keep playing.
 
Like a lot of people here I grew up with anime and video games but I found myself really admiring the different art styles so I think it was just a matter of time that I would encounter otome games.

With that said though, I think what got me really interested in them is the romance! I'm not too interested in being in a romantic relationship in real life so it's become a really fun way to engage with it and sort of 'experience' it in a safe space, where I have full control over the pacing of it.

Playing otome games or listening to otome CDs effectively relieves my stress, allowing me to temporarily escape the hustle and bustle of real life and immerse myself in the atmosphere and world of the works for a short period.

Some comedic scenes or dialogues bring a smile to my face. Appreciating the different types of characters and beautiful art styles, and experiencing all sorts of imaginative stories, is very enjoyable.

Some romance works don't have happy endings; they have a touch of sadness and emotional entanglement, which makes them even more memorable.
 
I've always been into games, anime, stories, and stuff. Then I saw someone playing an otome game, so I started getting into it too. And of course, I ended up loving it, plus the LIs are all so handsome lol.
 
I really wish I could remember what got me started. I'm sure the gateway was anime, as I remember watching one where the MC had no design as it was from "our" pov, which I thought was pretty cool. My interest majorly flourished after reading interactive fiction. There were only so many at the time, so I looked for an alternative and now here I am.

I really wish I could remember my first otome. It was on the app store, and I'm sure it's long gone now, but my second would've been MM.
 
At first, I started with manga, but gradually it evolved from books into novels, then into animation, and eventually my attention shifted to games! At first, we didn't have game consoles, so we'd collect and play on one by one the consoles that PC games featured otome games on!
 
Initially, it was because I liked voice acting, but back then I preferred anime and manga. Later, visual novels naturally took their place. The design and voice were also key factors that kept me here.
 
I got interested in otome games because I really enjoy story-driven games and character development. I was especially drawn to the different personalities of the LIs and how their relationships with the MC develop throughout the story. Once I tried my first otome game, I ended up getting really interested in the genre and started exploring more titles.
 
The story and the beautiful art are what got me start playing otome game. At first, I only read shoujo manga, but after knowing some manga have game adaptation, I start to play the game too
 
Tbh it was heart no kuni no alice. I read the manga and fell in love with the darker, twisted take on the classic story and the chaotic dynamic between Alice and the boys. When I found out it was originally a visual novel, I was immediately hooked on the concept of different stories and lots of endings. Then I started exploring other titles like code realize and amnesty/collar x malice, but heart no kuni no alice will always hold a special nostalgic place in my heart. After discovering series like *Harvest Moon* and *Atelier*, I eventually came across *Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side*.
 
The attractive men displayed on my Play Store completely caught my attention.. I was probably just a down bad 12 year old desperately looking for more attractive anime men outside of the shoujo anime I'd been binging 💔
 
My entry into the otome genre started with a Bokujō Monogatari game.

When I was around 12, my dad bought Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl for the PSP. It was originally meant for my brother, but I ended up taking it over and promptly fell head over heels for Gray. That single crush sparked a whole new interest.

Eventually, I started hunting for any game that offered romance and marriage, which eventually led me to trying out dating sims games available online in English (which were mostly targeted for males, and there's gems I found at DeviantArt - Pacthesis' dating sims, Nummyz' dating sims) and discovering the wider world of otome (RE: Alistair from sakevisual, etc.).

As someone who was growing up loving games, YA romance novels, and shoujo/josei manga and anime, falling into the otome genre as a hopeless romantic was a match made in heaven. Bokujō Monogatari (/ Story of Seasons) series will always be where it all began for me.
