Do you listen to a drama CD for the voice actor or for the story?

Mostly because of the voice actors; I listened to Diabolik Lovers for the plot, if you can even call it that
 
I think both are equally important. Drama CDs aren't like games—they have spoken lines and internal monologues that give you a deeper understanding of the plot and what the characters are thinking. But at the end of the day, a drama CD is all about the voice actors' performances. So their voice and acting ability really matter a lot
 
I listen to drama CDs primarily for the voice actors.
Of course, the story is important too, but since drama CDs are an audio-only medium, I believe the voice actors are the most crucial element in immersing oneself in the narrative.
 
I usually buy them mainly for the voice actor, unless the story is really not to my taste.
 
VAs play a huge part in it for me even though Im a sucker for good stories. Can't get into it if the VA isn't my type :o
 
Depends actually......if it's the trope of story that I'm not interested in, I'll skip most of the time. But....BUT......only for that one favourite, which is UMEHARA Yuichiro, I'll listen some samples first and so far the stories of his dramas are doing fine (at least for the ones I've heard)

I prefer stories. As long as it's a plot I like combined with the kind of voice I like, I'll listen, rather than listening because of the voice actor. Voice actors use different vocal styles in different stories, and sometimes I don't really like the vocal style they use for flippant roles.
 
99% of the time just for the voice, if theres no translation i just listen to the voices and try to pick up what theyre saying by ear but if there is, i'll grasp the story better

There have been times when I bought a title simply because the story appealed to me—even if it featured voice actors I hadn't heard of before—and it ended up leading to a wonderful discovery. That said, for me, the cast of voice actors is often the primary reason I decide to make a purchase. Of course, having both elements come together is the best-case scenario.
 
tbh both. if i like the VA but the story sucks i'm not gonna listen to it, and if the story is good but i don't like the VA then i probably won't either. so yeah both are important to me.
 
Although I usually try to see if the story intrigues me, my eyes (and ears) are drawn to whoever voices the cd (´TωT`)
 
For the voice actor!! I mostly listen to drama CDs because I love hearing my favorite VA voice than everything else
 
I listen for the sake of the story.
Sometimes, I even find myself taking a liking to voice actors I didn't know before.
 
I often find myself discovering a great voice actor just because I bought a game with a good story. So for me, the story definitely comes first.
 
I like both the story and the VA. We see there are many cds with similar plot now, so the acting matters a lot how the VA can bring the character to life.
 
For me, it really depends on the balance between the voice actor, the character, and the story.

If it's a voice actor I genuinely love, I can tolerate a pretty terrible story and force myself to finish it just because I want to hear them. But honestly, that's probably a one-time deal. If the story is bad enough, I'm not going back for another release just because they're in it.

There are also times when I end up dropping something halfway through because I really don't vibe with the character. Even if I like the voice actor, there's only so much I can tolerate if the character themselves just isn't my type.

On the other hand, if the story is genuinely good, I can become interested in a voice actor I was previously pretty neutral about. A great character and well-written story can definitely earn them bonus points from me.

But there's one hard limit: if I genuinely dislike someone's voice, even an amazing story probably won't save it for me. I just can't stay immersed if I don't enjoy listening to the voice itself.

So I'd say it has to be balanced to some extent. A great voice actor can carry a mediocre story for me, and a great story can make me appreciate an unfamiliar voice actor, but there's a certain threshold where either one can become a dealbreaker.
 
usually i look at the va first because i prefer to hear familiar voices, then after that i'll decide if the story is to my liking or not. however if there's a story that's really intrigue me then i might try to hear it even if the va is unfamiliar... both weighed roughly the same methinks
 
I think the story is more important to me, although the voice actors are important too. I do enjoy listening to my favorite voice actors, but thinking about it, if the story doesn't appeal to me at all, I probably won't listen to it even if one of my favorite voice actors is in it.

So I guess I prioritize the story, but having both a good story and a great voice actor is definitely ideal for me!
