Mystic Messenger was so good. The mechanic, waking up in the middle of the night just to read a few chats. It was successful integrating itself in daily life and very smart too.It brings memories T_T Luciel..But other than that I don't know much about others.Love and deepspace was pretty popular but then something happened and it lost its popularity I guess. What do you think?Do you have any favourites you wanna share?

I don't like mobage, but Mystic Messenger was a huge exception for me. I think a big difference between MysMes and other mobage is that MysMes really didn't feel anti-consumer; getting hourglasses and hearts was easy enough, and there's no gacha mechanic or anything.

Ultimately though I do wish I could just buy a one-time purchase of Mystic Messenger and play whenever I want without worrying about hourglasses/hearts/save files/missing chats etc.

I haven't played any others because I don't like micro transactions/paying multiple times for one game. I like feeling like I actually own something, and mobile games can stop service at any time.

The rise of gacha games has made things way worse in my opinion, consumers are treated even more poorly by these companies.
I haven't tried Love and Deepspace even though it does look quite interesting, I don't know if I can get past the gacha mechanic.

I haven't played Mystic Messenger, but the consept of waking up at night to play a game doesn't sound very appealing. I honestly prefer to pay for gacha to unlock everything and read it at my own pace.

Then again, I'm not the fan of mobile games, as I have no patience to wait for a story's conclusion and tend to drop any game in a year or two. One time purchases are so much better, but oh well it's a difficult topic.

I really liked Saeran from MM! The game generally was a fairly fun experience but I did spend money to have a smoother experience playing it since I did not want to sacrifice my sleep (which I think did not salvage missed calls at certain timings and only the messages :X).
LADS was fine (until they cancelled Valko) and the main story was pretty interesting? I did lose interest and uninstalled the game even before Valko's cancellation though (reinstalled for him only to uninstall the game again after buying aurum pass 🤡).
My favourite would probably be the Love 365 / 100恋+ app, since they have full routes/more traditional linear reading otome games in the app, to varying degrees of quality. Looking forward to having more of their games ported so I can spend less 😂😂
Generally I still vastly prefer console games but I did still enjoy some mobile ones.

I really loved the old mobile otome games. Actually, there are still plenty of them out there today—like some of Voltage's mobile games (such as Doubt and Fake), as well as games you can play right in your browser (like the long-ago Gossip Girl, Kaikan Phrase Next, Bonjour Sweet Love Patisserie, and 愛しのショコラティエ). I really played all of those from the moment they launched until they shut down… but these days, there's only one game I'm still playing regularly.

Ehh, I've played two games, and both of them were gacha games. I couldn't really stick with either of them for very long though haha. The gacha mechanics were so predatory that I quickly started feeling like I couldn't keep up.

Also, a lot of the fanbase for these otome gacha games specifically, and mobile otome games in general, have never really been exposed to other types of otome games before. So sometimes you'll see people arguing and demanding that the game add a male MC. That kind of thing just made me decide maybe I'm better off staying away from the genre altogether lol

I don't play the new mobile games (like LADs or TOT), I only ever played games like Mystic Messenger or Midnight Cinderella. I can say I'm not a fan of gacha games or the way they write stories sometimes, so I only watch the gameplay if there's any story that pique my interest.

I still can hype it with my friends tho, I love when they shared anything (especially from LADs) to me. From the story to the drama lol

I downloaded mobile games a few years ago, but I found that most of them would have their servers shut down after a certain period of time, and the game plot was not yet completed. Moreover, many games cannot continue without spending money, such as buying items to unlock the plot or spending money to draw cards. Not spending money will result in waiting for a long time to complete the task, thus unlocking the plot. So later on, I uninstalled all my mobile games and stopped playing them. On the one hand, it seems that the plot can never be completed, or after spending a lot of money, the server was shut down without leaving anything behind, and even unable to replay the game plot again. Later on, I bought Switch to play games or completed Otome games on my PC.

I enjoy some parts of the game, but not really the rest. Some of it has gacha, and that's just not my thing, so yeah… t___t

I really dislike how they're handled most of the time. Tears of Themis was probably the first mobile (gacha) otome game I invested a lot of time in, but I had to quit after maybe a year because my phone couldn't handle the storage requirements. I did try to come back to it on an emulator, but even then it just didn't work 😭 Similarly, I tried Love and Deepspace, played for maybe 2 months, and dipped because grinding for currency in that game was pretty much impossible. Now that so much time has passed, even though I'd love to come back to TOT, I don't think I could enjoy it knowing how much content I've missed and will probably never be able to catch up on without spending money.

I'm sure there are plenty of mobile otome games that don't require you to spend money and don't have gacha elements, but I'd rather invest my time in titles that guarantee I'll get the whole experience while spending way less time on them.

Yumekuro was the one exception for me. I got really invested in it, and even after taking a break (because I lost my account and later recovered it thanks to their amazing support), I was able to come back and unlock every single character and story I wanted to read. It was definitely a time investment, but I don't regret it in the slightest. There were around 100 playable (capturable?) characters, and even though I mainly focused on my favorites, there were still so, so many other stories I could unlock just for the sake of it.

The sheer care and love put into that game was amazing, too. Every single story was voiced, including event stories, which were often an hour or two long. It's a shame it only lasted 2.5 years, and maybe not all of the characters were explored to their full potential, but thanks to the crowdfunding support, they were at least able to finish the whole main story. It's still available for free if you download the whole game, and the enormous amount of event stories released over the years is there too. Unfortunately, I lost the data I'd downloaded for my account, so I can't even go back and read everything I gathered during my time playing it. Though thankfully, I screen-recorded all of my favorite character's stories, so at least I'll never lose the 40GB of his content lol.

I honestly don't think I'll ever get this attached to another mobile game. It was an amazing experience.

Absolutely loved Mystic messenger, I replayed 707's route at least 3 times. I'm also playing Love Deepspace but censorship and the possibility of game being affected by crazy fans is not something I welcome. There's also 1000000gb updates that kill phones, and the possibility that games may be taken down anytime.
So PC and switch versions will always be superior to be.

I've played a few — MysMe, Tears of Themis (but only the beta), LaDs and Shall We Date series. Except for MysMe and the Shall We Date series, I find it hard to play mobile otome games for more than a month or two. Most of them have micro transactions/gacha and I'm too impatient to wait for story tickets to refresh for the next chapter. Most of the time you can't get a satisfying experience without shelling out money. It was a miracle with MysMe I didn't spend but with the other games I've played, I gave in and spent a bit like at least once. I'll always prefer console/handheld/PC otome over mobile, yay for a full satisfying experience!

Mobile otome games were actually what introduced me to otome games! So even though I've already branched out to console and PC otome, mobile always have a special place in my heart, especially the old Voltage games and old Shall We Date series.

But aside from that, I definitely have also tries Mystic Messenger since I found the chatroom style story telling to be very intriguing (although the chatroom opening times ruined my sleep schedule 😭)

Nowadays, I still do play mobile otome games alongside console and PC otome — the CN gacha otome to be precise like Tears of Themis, Lovebrush Chronicles, and Beyond the World. All 3 of them each have very intriguing main stories that I really enjoy - TOT being a detective like story about solving crimes and uncovering secrets about an illegal drug; LBC with its parallel universes and the LI's alternate selves; and BTW with its infinite worlds game concept.

I get it if there are those who dislike how mobile gacha otome work since it sucks to be at the will of RNG luck to see whether or not you get the card to actually read the story that may or may not contain very crucial info abt their character progression/history/main story lore. But luckily, the community exists to upload the stories online so you could watch them if you unfortunately couldn't pull for the cards yet still want to know what happens all the same. Hopefully, more mobile otome gacha could be much more FOMO-friendly where you can still read the event stories in the past by grinding a certain in game currency that's still obtainable as F2P 🥹 It really sucks to miss out on limited events because you get busy

Also, I play Love 365 too! It contains mostly all of the past titles Voltage used to have a separate independent app before and they would release new story updates for a title depending on how popular it is 🥲 I still play the console versions of Voltage's games like Oops I Said Yes and Romance MD but the switch ver only has the story up until season 2 while the app has season 3 for some LIs and a bunch of special/side stories

Out of all the games i played, mymes and the early shall we date series are the best, sadly the shall we date series is gone cause i'm missing wizardess heart so much 😭😭

some have a special place in my heart, but as long as they dont force constant spending on you im a fan. valkyrie heart is genuinely built different. the main story is slow to be updated but all the individual stories hehehe

I think it really depends on the type of mobile otome game.

I'm honestly not a fan of the kind of games where you have to log in every single day and wait for tickets to unlock tiny pieces of the story. Games from companies like Cybird often feel like this to me. The amount of free currency can be ridiculously low, so you end up having to pay a lot of money just to read relatively short portions of the story. At some point I'm just like, "Nope."

But I do really enjoy mobile otome games like RyuMiko, Love and Deepspace, and Yumekuro, where there's actually a substantial amount of story available for free. If the writing has depth, the story isn't hollow, and the game is generous enough with its currency, I think the mobile format can work really well.

There are definitely advantages to mobile otome games. They can be incredibly immersive because you can carry the characters around with you and interact with them regularly. The live-service format also allows the developers to keep adding new stories, events, characters, and content over time.

The biggest downside for me, though, is the inevitable End of Service. A console otome game can sit on my shelf for decades and I can still play it. A mobile game can simply disappear one day, and all that content is gone with it. That's a huge problem for me as someone who cares about preserving games.

That's why I LOVE it when a mobile game eventually gets ported to consoles, especially when they add more story content or voice acting to the console version. It feels like the game is finally being preserved as an actual piece of media rather than something that exists only as long as the service does.

Unfortunately, I feel like a lot of mobile otome games prioritize monetization over writing quality. They use psychological mechanisms to encourage players to keep spending money, while the actual story can be surprisingly shallow. Of course, there are plenty of exceptions, and when a mobile otome gets the balance right between good writing, generous gameplay, and monetization, I think the format can be fantastic.

So I'm not against mobile otome games at all. I just want them to give me an actual story rather than making me pay ¥500 to unlock three paragraphs every 12 hours.

To agree with some of the points above, while mobile games can be enjoyable, the two biggest failings are the threat of end-of-service, and that they are primarily sales focused. While the promise of constant updates and new content can be alluring, the paywall and constant nickel and diming gets really old, really quick. I would much rather pay a single, flat fee for a solid start-to-finish game, and maybe pay for some DLC (if it's worth the money).

Not to mention when you have a game like LADS, as shown by recent events, content can be promised and revoked based on public whims. I'm not saying that kind of drama doesn't exist in other forms of media, but I think it's a lot more manageable.

Adored any otome games, especially mobile ones; it's how I got started after all. The stories vary a lot, which what I like about it but damn the microtransaction sucks.. There are alot of otome mobiles that build themselves to be heavily microtransactional which will make you lose interest overtime.. Now, those games are lost as eventually people got sick of it and they ended up shutting down the whole thing because it doesnt make any money any longer. My only wish is that those games get release either to pc or switch without the microtransactions.

To be honest I have a very particular place in my heart, mobile games are really special for me. They may not be as well-developed as games on Switch or PC, but there are still so many amazing ones! Mystic Messenger is definitely one of my favorites, along with Romantic Holic, Love Unholyc, Dangerous Fellows, Lovely Hero, and many others. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of mobile games that have way too many ads, and it really makes me lose the motivation to keep playing the story XD. I feel like there are some very specific games that are just really good and memorable.
Mmmm, I still haven't been able to get into otome gachas. I can definitely see how popular they are, but I haven't found the appeal yet. Maybe I'll understand the charm someday ;) When I was a kid I really like these kinds of games.

Mobile games were my introduction! Specifically the Voltage titles as standalones back in the day. I still have the Love 365 app on my phone both in en and jp and I still regularly go back to replay those stories. Mostly the older ones though, Im still upset about the Love choice system even all these years later. Its a shame that some of those stories will literally not even be coherent if you dont spend the money on those hearts. I guess thats kind of the problem with these mobage, in the end its all about how much of your money they can take from you. MysMes was kind of the holy grail in that regard I dont remember ever really spending anything there and didnt feel like I needed to either.

I dont know how well known it is nowadays but I also adored Lovestruck! They also used that "pay with in-game currency to unlock the better choice" system, but they gave you ways of earning a lot of it for free, the paid choices were relatively infrequent, and I never felt like I was missing out on a better story without those choices. 4 years since eos and I still mourn it all the time T_T

I used to play a lot of them when I was younger but I had to focus on my studies, stopped. I just started to play otomes this year again and found out that many of the games I played where shut down. I hate how you can spend mone but you can still lose everything.

So I decided to only play games that I could own without losing, so no games liked to a server, which is most of mobile games.

I still play mobile otome games.
The daily logins and grinding aren't particularly painful for me, but I do have some concerns. The story progresses very slowly, and as long as the service continues, it seems unlikely that the story will ever actually reach a conclusion. I also worry about the possibility of the service eventually shutting down, leaving me with nothing after all the money and time I've invested in it.
Even when I'm really into a game, I try to be careful not to spend too much money on it.
That said, being able to play easily anytime and anywhere is really convenient.
