Is there a popular otome game that everyone loves but you just can't stand?

Any gacha game is a no for me e.g. Love and Deepspace, Tears of Themis, etc. I already wasn't a fan of mobage (apart from Mystic Messenger) because I prefer just paying once for something, but gacha games made everything even less consumer friendly.
Also as much as I love Otomate games for their high quality, I wish some of them weren't so plot/drama heavy. I wish there was more romance!! I haven't played very many (I've played Amnesia, Code: Realize, Hakuoki) so maybe there's some I'm missing out on that aren't like that. But I wish more localised otome games were more romance-heavy.

Do you only play on a specific platform/hardware? I enjoyed some of Otomate's older stuff on PSP (some are going to Switch like Glass Heart Princess but also enjoyed Confidential Money, Kaminaru Kimi to and Shirahana no Ori (main game + fandisc).

I play on pretty much everything! I emulate and also have a PS Vita/PSP/Switch.
Thank you for the recs, I'll check them out :)) What's the difference between Otomate's new and old stuff? What makes their old games better?

That's great! 🥰

Old as in only on older hardware (apologies for any confusion!) and I'm not familiar with newer releases (PS Vita onwards) 😅

Enkeltbillet's gameplay is interesting (similar to Hanayaka nari Waga Ichizoku) too!

P.S. Death Connection might be of interest (mafia, set in Italy? I think) and while I really enjoyed a friend's summaries of the routes - I couldn't get into it myself. Also on PSP and never ported to newer hardware :x

I honestly feel like the mafia portrayal in Piofiore: Fated Memories is way too childish. Most of the characters also didn't really make me understand why the heroine would fall for them. The routes are pretty repetitive too, and there's a lot of reused content. Personally, I found it so boring that I could barely stay awake. 😭

Amnesia, I think it was one of those games if made today would have a frown kinda thing, I dunno I find some of the MC boring
Sweet Fuse: WHY!?!?!?!? The hell is a teenager going out with like a 50 year old?!?!?1

I don't hate but I just could get into Love and Deepspace. I tried it and was like oh okay, then it asked about tracking my period and I was like.....this is a parasocial relationship I don't want.

So happy to see I'm not the only one who didn't like Bustafellows! I made myself play through all the routes because everyone liked the game so much but I didn't like any of them 😭

Cupid parasite, it unmotivated me to play any other otome for moths and i didn't even finished the common route lol
Also tears of themis, i was in love with marius but i really don't like the way romance progress is handled in gacha games

Diabolik Lovers though not because of Yui. I simply cannot stand the Sakamaki brothers and their mothers, especially in the first game. I absolutely loathe their relationship with their mothers—particularly the dynamic between Cordelia and her sons Ayato, Kanato, and Raito. Of course, I didn't finish the game, so there are likely things I missed, but I still didn't like it.

7'scarlet. Not sure how popular it actually is, but I bought it because it had mostly positive reviews on steam and it was on sale. Every time I tried to pick it up, I never made it past the common route. I am not sure whether it's the writing style, if I am not vibing with the story or what, it just feels like a drag every time i try to play it 😢

For me, without a doubt, it's Jack Jeanne. I think my mistake was going in with really high expectations; I didn't like the game's art style, and the story overall—as I always say—feels more like a tale about friendship and dreams than romance. Actually, because of that, I think it would make a great anime. I loved the music, and the rhythm mini-games didn't bother me (I've played UtaPri, which has a similar mini-game, and I enjoy rhythm games); the only characters I liked were Yonaga and Orimaki. Even though I didn't enjoy the game, I finished every route hoping I'd end up liking it more... yeah, unfortunately, that didn't help.

same, i really hate the payment model that most mobile otomes use now - gacha is really a predatory monetary practice.

I feel like the newer otomate games that have been chosen to be localized have been picked because aksys seems to be clinging to hope that they can make them appeal to men when they really should be focusing on the niche they are supposed to be pandering to. I love a plot heavy game but I'd love if they focused more on the romance which is the main draw.

Utakata no Uchronia. 😭

I find the writing really messy, and both the characterization and the romance suffered as the result. Yashiro especially feels like an incomplete character, because a good chunk of his story is revealed in routes that isn't his own. The truth route didn't hit for me either, it just felt very redundant.

The Diabolik Lovers...frankly speaking I really don't like the MC's personality, especially after watching the anime only makes me detest her personality and character even more. In addition, the fact that the MC is surrounded by vampires with toxic personalities (for me, my opinion) is just not appealing to me.

I rarely ever hate a game because honestly my standards are pretty low and I can pretty much enjoy anything but a title I had to drop was Charade Maniacs 😭 I don't know how popular it is but I really wanted to like it especially because I really love the setting and the story's entire premise but I could NOT stand the heroine's personality, I had to drop the game because I really did not like her, and I usually have a high tolerance for otome MCs 😭 I feel like if she wasn't the MC I would've actually liked this game, or at least finish it.

Also everybody mentioning Cupid Parasite here and I just casually drop by with my Lynette pfp lmfao 😭 I get why people wouldn't like the game though, and I wouldn't really go to bat for it since I haven't finished the game myself I just really like Lynette lol 🏃‍♀️

Bustafellows... I've tried multiple times to push through it to completion but I just find the narrative and the romances so boring 😭

It does sound like the romance aspect from Otomate is much lesser than before(?) - also saw a similar comment by a JP player on Twitter :x

Eek, it's one of the Vita games from Otomate that I fully completed and convinced it's only pretty and has a nice voice cast ;___; Spent so much time on it myself 😳

Piofiore. I'm sorry but I just can't appreciate forced marriage, apathetic love, super red flags, and even rape concepts as "normal" or typical. Yeah, it's the setting and all, but that's not my cup of tea.

Next would be the very very famous Love and Deepspace. I can't with the art style and 3d rendering. I'm old fashioned and love my 2d men.

For me, it was Piofiore: Fated Memories. I couldn't even finish Dante's route because I got so bored that I ended up quitting the game. I've heard Yang is a really appealing character, but I just can't bring myself to keep playing.

Bustafe... I played like everyone's route except for Crow and stopped as I didn't feel much affection towards the characters for some reason. I do still want to give the game another chance though, not now but perhaps in a few months when the mood feels right.

Obey me, to be honest. Even though I love Mammon with my whole life, the other brothers used to piss me off so much in the main story. The storyline is pretty boring for me, I stayed for a while for the event story.
