What would you think of otome games without the option to change the MC's name?

I don't mind it at all. It makes the story feel more natural, especially when characters can say her name in voiced scenes I get tired of the silence whenever the characters call the MC's name

I wouldn't mind at all since I like to leave the MC name as default so the other characters will call her name. It's more of a problem for me when the MC doesn't have one and I have to give her one haha. I think it's rare that we can't change the MC's name in otome games, I don't think I've encountered this before, so I would be really curious as to why and if it has something to with the plot.

Honestly, it doesn't bother me at all.
In fact, if a name isn't specified, I end up agonizing endlessly over whether to use my own name or come up with an original one, so it's not an issue at all if the default name can't be changed.

I play with the default name mostly, because in most of VNs it's voiced. But it would also be nice to have a choice.

i'm not a fan, so i would stop playing. a name changing option is a must for me in an otome game. :"3

I don't really have much experience with that situation, but I've played one game that didn't have the option. I was a bit disappointed, but I was a fan of the original series the game was based on, so I got over it. But in other cases, I just wouldn't consider it an otome game that I'd enjoy lol. I'm a loyal self-insert player, so not being able to use my preferred name would be a pretty big change to the experience.

Wouldn't mind at all. I'm always playing using the default name. It's my biggest nightmare when I need to give a MC a name (like in Amnesia, LADS and MM) because I suck at giving names 😭 And I'm not joking when saying that... I literally have a cat called cat because I couldn't think of a name for him 😭

I always use the default name anyway, so I don't mind if there's no option to change it. As long as the story and artwork are good, it doesn't really matter to me.

I don't mind it that much, I never use my personal name anyway so whether it's the default name or some OC name I made up won't really affect my gameplay.

But I have to say, from a game development perspective, not giving the user the option to change the MC's name feels like a limit on the programming side. It's a very basic function that can potentially enhance the player's experience - obviously not the people who don't mind, but you know, there are people who do mind and they're losing out on that audience. Having the option is nice. Unless there's a very specific reason why the MC MUST HAVE a specific name in the story, I don't see why users shouldn't be allowed to change it.
If necessary, the developer can make a compromise, such as locking the family name but allowing users to change the first name.

It won't really be a problem for me since I usually go for default names anyway too as a non self insert player (also saves me the hassle of coming up with names for the MC)

I usually like changing the default name to mine since it makes me feel more immersed in a game, as someone said before, having the default sometimes makes me feel like an outsider, but is not like its ruining all my experience if I don't have the option, but in general I prefer having my name on it!

I always keep the default name if the game has voice recordings for it. I want to enjoy the voice actors' performances as much as I can, including the way they call the MC's name. It doesn't bother me that it's not my name, I just enjoy being someone else in the game anyway.

I never changed the mc's default name anyway, so I personally don't mind it at all! It's especially much better when the lis could mention her name in their voice lines.

Actually, I always stick to the default name -- bonus points if the other characters have voice lines for it. It just helps me understand the protagonist as a character in her own right, as opposed to some vague projection of the player. Besides, certain names just don't make sense to me in certain settings: if the protagonist is a Japanese woman from the Edo period, I would have to choose a suitable Japanese name for it to make sense. At that point, why bother?

Doesn't bother me in the least. I think the distinction is, I don't see myself as the main character when I play a game. No self-inserting for me or anything like that. But I DO try to play games as if I was the MC in the sense of making choices that are consistent with the character, as they're presented.

If I HAVE to pick a name, I have three that I use - none of which are mine - which are character types I've developed over my years of playing video games.

Which is a little weird, I guess? I play a lot of games.

oh! i never played a game that didn't allow you to change the mc name, but if i ever encounter a game like that... i think it's fine, i usually use my online name for my MC since it becoming a habit, it'll be weird but if the game is interesting i think it's fine ^_^

I always use the default name, even if the game lets me change the MC's name. I'm just tired of coming up with new names. 😅
