Whats your opinion on poster boys / Favorite poster boy LI?

So most otomes have a poster boy that you see in marketing - Akaza from OS, Yanagi from CxM, Yves from Shuuen no Virche, Alan from CupiPara...

I think a common sentiment is that some people find poster boys annoying because it feels like the LI is constantly being shoved down your throat, kind of like he's the "destined" one for MC. And I mean, I kinda agree with this lol (looking at you Akaza...)

Some games that don't have poster boys like Birushuana also do very well because it feels like each LI gets equal attention. I guess Yoritomo is kind of the vaguely the poster boy but he doesnt get special treatment like other poster boys do

Soo with that said - do you have a favourite poster boy or do you not like them at all?

lmao poor Akaza getting called out www Though to be fair, he might've been a little too special setting-wise (with that Amaterasu - Susanoo story lol)

I usually treat the "fated prince" route as canon since I enjoy the journey towards the true ending.
Here's my fav, by pairing: Hayato & Tsugumi from NilAd
And by plot: Yukimura & Nanao from Harukanaru7 (still not over it) ( ;ᯅ; )

That said, there are way too many boys who feel like they'd spend the rest of their lives alone if they don't end up with MC, and I can't help feeling bad for them too...

I understand why poster boys exist from a marketing perspective, but it's not something I really think about while playing or choosing my routes. I think most poster boys come off as kinda boring, but that's also just my preference.

I don't like them.
None of them is canon to me.
Not Goemon (Tengoku), not Dante (PioFiore), not Akaza (OS) and so on...

The only ones I liked was Vilio from Radiant Tales
and Yashiro (Itehari), but I like Yori more than Yashiro.

I'm pretty neutral on poster boys, but I do hold them to a higher standard (i believe most ppl do as well). They're literally the face of the game, so I expect their route to be among the strongest. When the poster boy ends up being the most underwhelming route, it just feels like wasted potential... They don't have to be the best boy, but I at least want to understand why they were chosen as the cover in the first place. It's not abt being forced upon myself also playing their routes, I guess what I'm saying is that--if you're going to go advertise someone as the face of your game, then give me a reason to believe they deserve that title.

I dont like them =)))

I like all the LIs to be equal to each other =)) just really hate the thought of one character being 'the one' and the other just being a fling.

Also, I tend to have very high standards when it comes to the poster boy =)) They usually get more care put into their route, but I'm always disappointed afterwards xDd

I don't care about poster boys :D

I think they should just be that. It hurts me that they invest everything in just one boy and the rest of the LIs are just a number

I usually feel the said irritation about poster boys. Before this post I didn't even understand the psychology behind it. So I totally agree.
The only poster boy I liked was Alan. So thanks to him, I am trying to get rid of my prejudice

I like it when poster boy and secret route LIs are separate. Like in Amnesia, Virche. This balances the game for me plus points if the poster boy is not forced to be canon route. Poster boys are also generally the more safer more grounded personality most of the times too. Not my fav but not hating either.

for me, they're just... there. they usually aren't my favorite at all, save for some exceptions (like limbo from BF and lugus from PotAS, perhaps? but that game as a whole is very divergent in terms of otome games in general?)

what bothers me most is when they're pushed as the final and true route, as other people have mentioned here. it kind of makes me feel like the journey before it wasnt really "there" at all if it all was supposed to end with one specific LI. what were my feelings for, then?????

In the past I really disliked them because of their story focus and "privileges", but now I'm pretty okay.
I grow up to really like reading stories with the "Destined couple" troupe. Of course sometimes it is kinda ass when I dislike the dude, but this is unavoidable, I won't like every single poster boy and I won't also dislike every single one of them. I also see the LIs routes as parallel universes so even if there's a "canon route" it's kinda irrelevant to me.

And now I feel like we have more variations of poster boys? It might just be my impression. But this also helps me not arbor bad feelings toward every single one of them, there's a time it really made me sour feeling like the very type of LI I dislike the most was being shoved in my throat lol
As for the poster boys I like, my absolute favorite is Yves (Virche), he really deserved the highlights of the game. But I also like a lot Rath (BWS), Kaser (ORz) and Allan (CupiPara).

My favorites are never the poster boy, so I do find the favoritism annoying. Then again, that tends to happen to me with everything so at this point I am quite used to it.

For me, the poster boy is usually closer to the "true route" — there's often more connection to the overarching story from the very beginning.

Every love interest is unique in their own way, but the poster boy tends to carry more weight when it comes to the main plot.

I end up liking these characters too — as long as the story is well-written and the character himself is likeable.

They're kind of hit or miss for me.

I don't have anything against poster boys, but I also don't really pay attention to who the "main" LI is. My eyes immediately go to whoever I want to romance first. 😂 As long as the love story is good, I'm happy. Whether they're the poster boy or not doesn't really matter to me.

Poster boys almost always end up as my favorites, but finishing a game with the feeling that one character was treated better than the others (whether through more impactful lore drops or more reasons why they should be the number one choice) makes me kind of sad?

Also, since they're the game's face, I tend to have higher expectations for their routes, and it can ruin the whole experience for me if they disappoint ( ; ω ; )

Right now I can't think of a poster boy that ended up being my favorite fight now... I think it's because there's a certain set of archetypes that usually end up as poster boys?
I don't mind games having a poster boy, as long as the rest of the routes get equal attention in the actual game. Personally, I am not too fond of the 'true route'/'locked routes' formula... isn't the entire point of the genre the player's choices? If I wanted a destined path, I would just read a romance novel or manga. I prefer games where every route can make sense as canon ending.
 
I'm not a fan of the poster boys either. It's probably because of the marketing, but I get my hopes up so much for an incredible route, when it's really no different from the others, unless there are secret routes but that aside, thinking back on most of the otome games I've played, my favorites are never the poster boys, haha.
 
I see—I hadn't really given it much thought before, mainly because I've never particularly favored the character in that specific role. However, now that I think about it, I certainly do notice differences—such as how information about them is revealed more carefully compared to other characters. I often feel they have more interaction with the protagonist, especially in adaptations like anime or audio dramas, so, to be honest, I do wish things were a bit more equal.
