What's a red flag you can forgive in a fictional character but would never tolerate in real life?

Overprotective behavior driven by obsession or excessive jealousy would be really annoying if it happened in real life.
I can enjoy it because it's fiction, but if it happened in real life, I think I'd find it incredibly annoying.
Like, "Why are you trying to control me so much?"

I keep seeing the word - overprotective - a lot in this thread.
Wasn't it a good trait for a person?
It's a red flag?
I'm confused now... o.o

As much as I'm currently hyperfixated, fascinated and obsessed with Yanderes, I would never, not in a million years or different lifetimes would I go near such a person IRL. Lmaoooo I can just imagine how scary it truly is to be the FL IRL dealing with that. But in fantasy it's fascinating to me.

OUUUU defitinely possessiveness, I hate being felt like I'm not my own person with my own choices without making my partner mad. These fictional character is cute to act possessive, but in real life I would got the ick in seconds! 😭

I guess a bully, a cheater or a man who never speaks about the problems, that would make me die from stress. Someone who lies to me or break promises, someone sexist.... I'm super OK with complex male characters and usually like the ones very well written being kinda villians or horrible persons. I can only think Jax from digital circus right now, even if he/she is a bad person I LOVE HIS CHARACTER SO MUCH. But if it was real life I would keep myself as far as possible from him

Imagine having a boyfriend who doesn't give u your place as his partner and only after being almost murdered is when he changes (cof ikki cof) or being pushed from a mountain for your bff (pls stay 10 meters away) my godness being honest thats terrifing (i´m traumatized w amnesia)

Overbearing and communication‑resistant personalities. I would absolutely dislike them in real‑life.

Pretty much any red flags that crosses from minor into major is an issue. People IRL aren't perfect - we're only human and all that jazz, so I think we've all got little problems or flaws that the people we love learn to live with.

A LITTLE bit of jealousy in a relationship? Totally normal, you can't control how you feel, you can only control what you choose to do about it. A LITTLE bit of difficulty in expressing emotions? Totally normal, nervousness and fear are human responses to something new. A LITTLE bit of manipulation? Not ideal, but I think most people try to stack odds in their favor - just a bit! - to make things go smoothly for themselves if they're given an opportunity to do so.

The moderation piece is key. Jealousy to the point of locking someone up in a cage, yandere? Emotional constipation to the point of treating someone like dirt, no matter how much you might actually care about them, tsundere? Extreme emotional manipulation, controlling behavior, obsession, gas-lighting, physical violence... all the toxic behaviors I LOVE to read about.

But do I want to LIVE with any of them?

In general, I don't like yelling or angry people in reality. If Tsundere scream at me, I would be angry in reality. My red flag are always tsundere, I would accept them in game. in reality, I do not like it.
My green flag are alaways kind people like second male lead. They are the most safe people I would love to meet in reality.

Characters who would do anything and stop at nothing for love. It's fun in fiction because it's so unrealistic. But if I meet someone like that irl i'd suggest them the way to the nearest mental hospital👍

Someone who is possessive/clingy/jealous/insecure/obsessed.

I LOVE it in otome because I can just shut the game off at any time but irl you can't control when they bother you lmao. and I really like my alone time.

Honestly, I can forgive pretty much anything in fiction. They aren't a real life human being who can cause actual harm to my body, so it doesn't feel threatening!

Only in games and fiction, though. Especially when he gets jealous of all my friends whenever I hang out with them. I can enjoy that kind of possessiveness in fiction, but in real life, it would basically feel like being in prison 😂

When they're obsessive, overprotective, and a little bit evil (just a little).

As many are saying, basically yanderes, hahaha. (˶˃𐃷˂˶)
I love them in fiction, but in real life? ∘ ∘ ∘ ( °ヮ° ) ? I'd call the police before they even said my name. A little jealousy and protectiveness is normal, but not to the level of fiction.
