I would say that, I didn't pick up dating tips from the otome manga/game/drama, but it did teach me something like "what kind of people will be popular", all I need to do is just to perform well. All popular heroines share some common personalities, even popular MLs are also kind of similar. The form of expression vivify this specific type of people in details, but also only abstracts the most obvious element, makes it easy for me to imitate. I guess many people have try to learn something, or have been excited, from idols or people who they respect, the character from otome game influence me in a similar way.
And, though they didn't teach me how to date, they did tell me how to make boys happier in a way that I could accept. It's a bit weird that I know such thing form otome game but not from TV dramas or films, even not gals. I'm not sure the reason though. Maybe it's because the otome game is played in first person perspective, so the script will describe more on how the heroine will be affected by what kind of behaviours? It's just, I can't help with myself to feel exhausted when I clearly find which specific behaviour has left a good impression to him.
Instead of randomly copy the same behaviour from a fiction, I guess it is more useful to think why this kind of behaviour will work , and comparing them with reality to see why sometimes they will not. Well though I speak like this, otome game is designed for girl to enjoy a romantic love right? I shall not think about any physically real man when I enjoy the game ( •̀ ω •́ )✧
