Do you use default settings on VNs?

I'm a pretty fast reader, so I almost always set the text speed a little higher. But I read too fast when it's at peak speed and can't enjoy the story as much, so I'm careful not to turn it too high. I also turn the BGM a little quieter if it's too loud to hear the voices well.

i always turn the text to instant appear (idk but watching the chars appearing one by one makes me dizzy TT). also, i tend to turn the *cough*h scenes sound*cough* to the max lol and bgm at around 30% cz it breaks the immersion for me

Same as almost everyone here, I speed up text to max and lower bgm. I looove hearing the voices as clear as possible with some muted music. I do use headphones so it might get too loud sometimes.

I too turn down bgm, because I prefer listening to voices and music can be too loud or distracting. I also make text appear the fastest possible, cause I have no patience to...read...it...like...this
I do just the same! Plus, make the voice settings to maximum. I didn't need to change anything only once when I played Moeyo. Settings were set correctly right from the beginning. I was surprised

I changed them everytime, just for voices and sounds to be higher and make text appear quickly

The first thing I do is crank the text speed up to the fastest setting! If the BGM feels too loud, I'll turn it down to around 80%, but other than that, I usually leave everything else as is.

I usually play with the default settings since the first thing I do in visual novels is to play lol. Though, if the sound mixing is bad, I might have to turn down the BGM or turn up the voices. I'll also make sure that skip read text option is on as well after a playthrough so I don't have to read what I already read.

I always mess with the settings before I start playing. I lower the bgm a lot because I like hearing the characters' voices clearly (I remember playing an old otome once where the bgm would suddenly get louder whenever a character started talking even though I'd already turned it down. It was so annoying 😭) After that I turn the character voices all the way up, set the text speed to the fastest, enable skipping for all text. That's pretty much my routine every time I start a VN.

Always change text speed because it's too slow
Other aspects - depends on the game

The first thing I always do when starting a new game is set the text speed to the maximum; I'm an impatient person and can't stand waiting for the words to slowly pop up, plus having to click twice for every line feels a bit tedious.

+4 to changing the seed text. I usually max it the fastest speed where everything just flashed on the screen since I read fast. Other than that, I usually also change the skip speed to max and adjust the sounds. Characters voices would be maxed out to while bgm and ill sound effects would be lowered slightly.

Reading the thread, its seems like a lot of us do the same thing 😆

No, in every game I play, I always set the text speed to maximum so that the entire dialogue displays instantly. Watching text scroll line by line actually causes me discomfort, it really strains my eyes. However, there are still a few games, like Hana Awase, where even at max speed, the text still scrolls slowly instead of appearing all at once. Why even give us the setting if you're not going to implement it properly?

On top of that, I always turn down the BGM and sound effects.

Nope.
I always set the text display speed to almost instant, BGM and SFX to 50, and character voices to 100.

My pc vol is set to 100 and my headphones are too, so normally i lower the volume of the game significantly, as well as turning the background music down... BGM volumes are normally too loud compared to voice acting, and it annoys me.

I dislike games that dont let the BGM slider go to almost 0, and it annoys me when there's no Master Volume slider... My ryujinx volume is already set to 4 on my pc... Why does everything have to be so loud...?

I considered turning the vol down for Dialovers (HDB) when i was playing it, mostly because every time i got one of those one-ear voicelines it'd scare the hell out of me.

I usually play with the voice volume set to max. Even then, some scenes have background music that's so loud it drowns out the dialogue, making it hard to hear what the characters are saying.

Heck no! I turn BGM, SFX, MOVIE volume down.
I also set text speed to instant/highest because I get seasick from looking at moving whooshing text.
For auto mode, I turn it to 80 % speed. The read speed is right up my alley.

Like most people have said my changes are pretty much the same. I always turn down the background music (most of the times, if not all, I don't like it) and I change the text speed to faster setting because it's always painfully slow to read or just set it to instant which is the best option.

Oh yeah, I also play with headphones and I prefer to crank the voice volume all the way up to 100. But I always leave the bgm on too, 'cause without it I just feel kinda off.

I like to set the text speed a little faster. For the audio, I'll lower the SE and bump up the voice volume a bit.

i usually leave the default setting as it is, but there are instances where the BGM is so loud u can't hear the characters talk, so i turn the BGM volume down and set each character's voice to max so i can hear them more clearly
