Do you read reviews? What's important to you in a review?

I read reviews, but I still play the game since I want to form my own opinions about the games. Sometimes I might like the game despite the bad reviews.

I like reading reviews, but I definitely prefer doing it after I've played the game. It's much more enjoyable to read other people's opinions, relate to them, and share my own thoughts afterward. Before playing, I don't want someone else's subjective take to influence my own experience. I'd rather go in with a fresh perspective and see the game through my own eyes first.
Of course, playing completely blind can be a little risky, so I usually only check the overall rating beforehand. Even then, if the score is low but the game still looks interesting to me, I'll probably give it a shot anyway.

I don't really read reviews because going in blind is half the fun for me, at most I pull up the VNDB page to look at the tags and check if there's anything that might turn me away from playing a game. I DO like checking them out after playing a game tho, to see what takeaways people have of the story, like a one sided book club I guess.

Although I'm not a big fan of reviews that are overly subjective, I'm still willing to watch them if they're presented in a video format that's really entertaining. I think most reviews are subjective to some extent, and if I were writing a review myself, I'd probably be a bit subjective too—that's just the way it is. But if it's presented in a really entertaining way, I might keep watching it.
 
I find review really useful, and since I personally don't mind spoilers, and I usually read at least a few before actually buying a game. It doesn't matter if they're positive or negative - something that's negative for someone else could be a plus for me (or something I don't really mind) or vice versa, I just like reading some detailed reviews to have a general idea of whether the game might be for me or not.

Omg this is so me, whenever I finish an otome i immediately go to tiktok and search for the game to see other people's memes/reviews/edits and validate myself and my feelings 😭

I do read reviews, but only before deciding whether to play a game or not. I prefer the reviews where the reviewer explains why they liked or disliked it to saying it's good or bad :wink:
 
I usually don't read reviews carefully,I just glance at whether they're positive or negative. It's way too easy to get spoiled otherwise, especially since some otome games have mystery or puzzle elements. Reading reviews can influence you or mislead you, and if you get spoiled, the gameplay experience really suffers.
But nowadays, most reviews avoid spoilers, so I'll occasionally skim through them, but I won't read them all the way through.
 
I usually read reviews before buying a game. Since I care a lot about the story, I pay close attention to comments about the overall quality of the scenario, character development, and the romance. I also like to know whether there is a recommended route order. I prefer to avoid spoilers, so I appreciate reviews that simply mention the recommended order without revealing story details.
 
I do not read reviews usually, just check recommendations about route order. But I really like to read powerpoints of fellow otoge players. They make it so fun to read, it helps me to understand better what is waiting for me in the game
 
Like many of you above, I think I tend to watch reviews after playing all the games. Even if it's the same, everyone has different feelings, but I couldn't get rid of the feeling that if I watch a review, the content of the review is correct (even though it may be different from what I think). Surprisingly, there are times when I remember the contents of such reviews while playing, so I'm trying not to watch the reviews before they start.
 
I'm the type who read reviews first before I play or buy something because I like to know what I will get. Maybe it's just my tendency to research first then act.
 
I usually read some game reviews when a game is released or before I buy it, mainly to decide whether I'm interested and whether to purchase. After completing certain character storylines, I occasionally check a few reviews, but generally don't spend much time reading many reviews or reflections once I've finished the game.
 
i do check on review especially if i am not familiar with the game. i don't wanna get hyped up only to get disappointed with it.
 
I usually check out reviews or comments after I finish a game, too.
I do look up the basic info about a game before starting it, though.

After finishing, I hope to find more discussions related to the game — it helps ease that empty feeling a little when a game comes to an end.

I read reviews very often, mostly before playing to help me decide whether to try a game or not. I avoid the character and route spoilers and jump straight to the reviewer's general thoughts. Since, I like to know the vibe of the games eg. whether its angsty or more light.

I got into the habit, because there's so many games and I dont have a lot of time to play so I check the reviews to see if its good or not.

As for what I look at, I like seeing people's recommended route order and their ratings on the fluff/angst/spice level. I especially love it when people gush about the game (in spoiler free terms) in their general thoughts because that makes me get into the game too 😆. Plus, there is something so enjoying about reading people's fangirling.

(Its kinda funny because reading this thread has made me want to try going in blind too and see how the experience goes 😆)

I read a lot of reviews before playing a game, usually localized games. For Japanese games, I read them afterward or just random comments on Twitter. That said, I hate insincere reviews. If a game has a problem, like poor development, just tell me! I remember playing Mistonia's Hope based on a single review, and I personally didn't like it. T_T I should have read more reviews. Later, I realized I probably don't share the same tastes as the girl whose review I read, so I tend to take what I read with a grain of salt.

When I read reviews after clearing a game, I try to observe how their thoughts differ from mine. I look at things like, "Oh, this user thought this way about this part." I also tend to pay a lot of attention to the overall understanding of the story. If I haven't played the game, I usually look for spoiler-free reviews, but sometimes I read reviews with spoilers without much thought. There have been quite a few instances where reading spoilers suddenly made me want to play the game.😁

However, I tend to avoid overly negative reviews. It feels like they only focus on the bad points of the game.

Since I want to buy only good works whenever possible, I check reviews beforehand and try to choose works that have mostly positive reviews.
To that end, I rely on the candid opinions posted by individuals on social media, forums, and blogs.
 
I don't see many reviews. The only Otome review blog I check occasionally is OtomeKitten's. The only thing I check is the plot to see if it intrigues me or not, and I also take a quick look at the descriptions of the love interests, those that are below the name and describe if they are Tsundere, Koodere, that kind of thing XD
 
I don't really read reviews that much because lately I've been having fun playing games with as little information as possible, sometimes I don't even know what the story is about lol. I do always check the recommended order though. For otome games I feel like they have such a variety of stories and settings that I feel the need to play the game myself to see if I'll like it because everyone has different tastes.
