Do you prefer male or female singers for OP in Otome/BL?

I never thought about it until I came across an otome opening with a male singer 😅 The song was great and went straight into my playlist! (btw how often do you listen to tracks from VNs?) But I realized that for my otome I strangely prefer a female singer. I guess I connect the opening song with the MC, like, the song should tell me something about her future struggles or her view on the world/conflict, so I'm expecting a female singer 🤔
Are there a lot of OPs with male singers in otome anyway?..
As for BL, I think I don't really care who sings it. Maybe because I'm more detached from the MC, so it's like someone is telling me a story?.. Not sure.

I like to have male singers, especially when Lis actors are singing it! (looking at Jack Jeanne) But if song is good and vibes with the game itself - anything is good. Even music without words can be great (there is Hana Awase example)

I prefer male singers, my reasoning its the same as your but with reversed roles haha, i want to learn about the perspective of the love interest

But it's better that the lyrics match the gender of the singer, for example, female for the heart of heroine and male for the main characters~~~
Oh yes, that's probably the most important thing!

After all the replies, I think it'd be nice to hear an op from LI's point of view as well.

It's kind of rare to find a male singer doing an opening for a otome game and that's one of the biggest reasons why I'm choosing female in this question but I don't mind a male singer, I want more Tbf

I don't really care whether it's a female singer or a male singer, it depends on the type and style of the game. I basically evaluate the adaptability of the singer's music to the game based on my feelings about the game.

For example, the songs sung by female singers in NORN9 are very beautiful, healing, and pleasant to listen to, and they are well adapted to the plot and art style of the game! I really enjoy listening to songs that evoke the plot of the game!

For example, there are many male characters in the game DIABOLIK LOVERS, and the songs sung by male singers are very suitable for each character in the game. I also really like them!

So I think both male and female singers should choose based on the game.

I'm okay with male vocals if the otome game guys arethe one singing.

I don't really mind whether it's a male or female singer. Most otome games usually have female artists singing the opening songs, but these days, some newer games have started using male singers too. Some games even have the characters themselves sing the opening and ending themes, and I absolutely love that! I'm also a big fan of voice actors, so it's really exciting for me. ✨

I tend to prefer female singers for otome games. I really like it when the lyrics reflect the MC's perspective and feelings, but I love it even more when the music matches the game's overall atmosphere and theme (~‾▿‾)~

Don't mind either as long as how lyrics and atmosphere fits lol. Though, outside of that, I usually find myself listening to female singers while I'm doing work

I like both, but I feel that in older Otome games, voice actors would often sing the theme songs or opening themes. In Cupid Parasite, for instance, every character has a theme song (Shelby's and Gill's are actually my favorites), though a female vocalist performs the opening and ending themes. I think that as long as the music fits the game—regardless of genre—I'll really enjoy it. It's probably less of a hassle to hire someone to compose the music than to have the voice actors sing. Also - I love Ulquiorra's voice actor (Daisuke Namikawa), there's a Bleach opening theme he covered that's a pain to find again these days, I fought through tears to get it, that only happens with music that the voice actors are involved in.

It doesn't matter much as long as they do it meaningfully, usually in otoge if a woman sings I associate it more with the MC's perspective. If it is a man, and depending on the lyrics I have another look.

Btw, I agree that we miss the seiyuus singing :(

I like both male and female singers, but it really depends on the game!
As long as the song is good and fits the atmosphere, I'm happy with anything. The lyrics matching the vibe is the most important thing for me.

I'm so curious about that amazing song!!
Since it's easier to relate to someone of the same gender, a female voice really helps you savor the afterglow of the song, doesn't it?

It really depends. The most important thing is that the song is good but I prefer opening themes by female singers over those by male singers. Still amazing ops by some guys tho. For example, Collar x Malice and Diabolik Lovers.

About female singers, this is such a bop

I dont really care, as long as the song is good and matches the game well. But it would be good if the voice matches with the lyrics. If the song is written with the perspective of a female MC in mind, i prefer a female singer, if it is the LIs, a male one. Otherwise it is not important to me at all.

it doesn't matter to me, as long as the song is good! (also please listen to the birushana op and ed by amatsuki! u won't regret it~)

I like the OP of female singers. Most of the otomate songs in my playlist are also sung by female singers. Because otomate is a story centered around the main character, when a female singer performs the OP, it gives me a sense of story extension, which can better reflect the emotions of the main character and creates a feeling where the main character expresses her own emotions in the first person to embody the theme of the story. Of course, I have also listened to male singers' songs. I also like the songs with delicate emotions.

I'm fine with either, as long as it fits the game and gets the message/emotion across. I love when the song is super catchy and I have it on repeat for a while.
