For me, I never self-insert myself as a MC. I view the MC as MC, and for me.

I feel awkward if I self-insert myself, so I just positioning myself as the reader of the story lol
 
nah. i read the content as a narrative itself and root (or not) for the characters as if they're my dolls. of course i squeal and everything when my favorite character does something, but i'm just not... there.

i'll gladly sit in the cuck chair.
 
Nope. If anyone's read Endo and Kobayashi Live, I kind of feel like that. Someone overseeing the characters. I tend to ship the characters more. i love seeing MC's dynamic with different LI's. Part of why i find otome games enjoyable is cause i can see the MC and other characters behave differently in different routes.

Although there are times when the MC does something i morally or otherwise, vehemently disagree with, it breaks the immersion and at times almost makes me drop it altogether.
But that's pretty rare
 
Yes and No, it depends on the media for me! For games, I view the protagonist as a separate character, but for audio dramas, I totally self-insert (￣ω￣;)
 
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends on the guy and the story, but also on the MC. If the heroine's personality is totally different from mine, I can't self-insert.😂

If a work is created for self-insert, like the MC has little to no personality, then yes, I will, because what else is there to do? x) Or I might come up with an OC while reading/listening. If the MC has some degree of personality, then no. Instead I'll be more interested in her character development.

it depends on the game tbh. if the MC's personality is totally different from mine, it's really hard for me to self-insert at that point it just feels like i'm reading a light novel (which i don't mind i love light novels). but if she has a similar personality to me, or basically no personality, it's way easier. drama CDs tho... that's where the self-inserting REALLY happens :P

I do like to think of myself as a guardian angel, a conscious or omniscient being protecting the female lead from her awful decisions. XD

Absolutely, that's my main way to enjoy otome games! I put myself in the heroine's shoes and make choices based on what I'd actually do, which makes all the sweet, flirty lines feel way more personal and immersive.:wink:

I think you've summed up my opinion lol. Heavily agree with 'I'd just grab a romance book'. I use these games for escapism, so I like to self-insert or create my own characters to be in that world.

Personally, I don't self-insert and read the games like a book. I can sometimes relate to the MC, but, not to "she's literally me fr fr" levels lmao
And, tbh, one of the reasons why I can't self-insert ever even with any interactive media is that I don't even like myself that much lol
 
Mostly not, hence I love and admire the heroine as her ownself 😍🤭 I find it quite rare or never for me to self insert while playing otomegame.
 
I enjoy it by feeling as though I'm looking otomegame, much like when reading a book or a manga.
 
I enjoy immersing myself in a game by projecting myself onto the protagonist, but in games set in the same world that feature multiple protagonists for different routes, I often become so deeply attached to the first one I play that I struggle to make progress on the other routes.
 
I don't see myself as the heroine but I tend to insert some of my own personality traits into the MC's characteristics, so they are more akin to siblings of mine.
 
Honestly how I look at the mc changes while I play. Depending on how the story has been going mc chould be; me, my daughter or my bestie
 
I do not self insert because the mcs never have the reacions i would have in game hahaha, so i prefer set mcs, with their own personality and appearence, background etc, because i would cuss out a lot of people in most mcs situations.
 
I don't self insert, when I play/read an otome I feel like a third party, like when you read a book with the difference that some characters have voices and you get to change their paths when you make a choice.
 
I don't really project myself into the story either. While I might empathize with the world of the story, I prefer to enjoy the story between the protagonist and the other characters from a third-person perspective.
 
Yes and no. It is less that the MC becomes me and more that I become the MC. I like to imagene myself in her shoes and try to think and feel like her.
