Do you listen to a drama CD for the voice actor or for the story?

For me, the story always comes first. If the premise sounds interesting, I'll give it a chance regardless of who's in the cast. That said, if one of my favorite voice actors is involved, it's definitely a bonus and makes me even more excited to listen.

A good story is always a must for me. A favorite voice actor may catch my attention, but if the story isn't good, I'll probably skip x)

It really depends !! I sometimes buy some cds just because they are voiced by some of my favourite seiyuus !!! And i also listen to some of them just bc of it, but i usually more interested into the stories behind them, since i managed to get to hear so many good but very good cds i never heard of with seiyuus i didn't know that became one of my favourite cds of all time !! So yeah the story is more appealing to me ! But both in one is just grandiose.

I agree, if a story sounds interesting ill listen to it no matter who's in it. But some voice actors can make me listen to a cd even if i dont like the story! if hirakawa daisuke suddenly voiced a new r18 otome cd... oh, there goes my wallet

Same with me, I feel like most of the VAs are so good these days so I'll pick it up if the story sounds interesting! But if the work is done by one of my my favorite VAs, I'll most likely try even if the story doesn't sound that good.

Story/tags for suuuure. And sometimes it makes me disappointed when the CD ends up being 99% smut LOL. There are some great premises that get derailed(??) by diving straight into r18 tracks. Though there are some CDs I buy solely for the VA regardless of whats in it (like anything voiced by 皇帝), unless it has a landmine for me or sounds really unappealing

It's both!
If it's a VAs I like, I'd want to listen to them in any role; likewise, if the story itself catches my interest, I'd want to give it a listen.

A good story can carry bad voice acting, but no amount of good voice acting can save a bad story. That's my opinion.

A bit of both and either or? haha. VAs I'm already acquainted with and have enjoyed their works, I'm more likely to check out. But also the scenario or story plays a role too. Or even the circle that released it.

If anything, I focus on the story, but I wonder if the story is not good? Even if I think so, it is the CV 皇帝who wants to ask. His acting is from a frivolous man to a man with a strong obsession and a psychopath... Because I feel that he is perfectly addicted to everything

Always go for the story first. Having one of my favorite va's in it is a bonus, just like you said.

Another nice thing about picking titles for the story is that i always end up running into va's that i've never heard before. It's honestly a fun way to discover new voice actors.

I like to look at the beautiful cover art, then I check the voice actor's name, and then I try reading the synopsis. If it's interesting, I'll buy it to listen. Most of all, I always look for the voice actor's name first because I have so many favorite voice actors (⁠*⁠˘⁠︶⁠˘⁠*⁠)⁠.⁠｡⁠*⁠♡

I will look into my favorite seiyuu's work and choose his CD with my preferences. Both matters for me because my specific taste of voice and story makes it more enjoyable.

Both matter a lot, but honestly, I always check the voice actors before reading the synopsis.
Obviously, the perfect combo is a great story with great voice acting.
But when the voice acting is good and the story is lacking, I lose interest.
If the story is gripping but the voice work is just average, I'll push through and finish it for the plot.

So when I really think about it, I guess I actually prioritize the story, haha.
But when they bring out the best in each other, that's the absolute best.

A good plot is what draws me in the most, but a great plot needs great voice actors to bring it to life—they complement each other and make each other shine. That's why, when I listen to audio dramas, I pay equal attention to both.

I really like Yagami Sen for a voice actor, whenever I see Yagami-san's works I hop in and for the plot I liked pRessest Love works! I love stories featuring mentally ill guys and ahem.. some violent content..

both! But sometimes I look at the cover first after seeing the name of my favorite seiyuu; if the artwork is beautiful and appealing (It's a bonus for me when I listen to the drama CD while imagining what they look like), then do I check out the script.
Sometimes I'm still interested when I come across a really good story even if it's not voiced by my favorite seiyuus, as long as the voice sample convinces me that their acting can capture the story's atmosphere.

I usually look up CDs by voice actor, so that's probably the biggest factor for me!
That said, when people recommend a CD or it's getting a lot of attention, it's often because of the story. In those cases, I end up listening because the story catches my interest.

I think the voice actor is the bigger factor for me. If the drama CD is voiced by the VA I love, I will listen to it regardless of how the story is.

But I will also listen to the drama CD with good story even it's not voiced by my favourite VA.

For me prob story first, cuz I think I'm interested in a specific genre, and through that, I discover VA, and then get surprised when I hear them in another work

Maybe I'm in the minority, but the first thing that catches my interest is the character illustrations and the setting. I do have voice actors I like, but I'm not really the type to go and look things up or listen just because they're involved. If anything, I guess I'm more story-driven…?

To me, a good story usually isn't making up for a VA I do not enjoy listening to.
So I'd say, while both are important, the VA is a little bit more important than the story.

Of course, I do sometimes give drama CDs a chance if the premise/story is interesting enough though, even If the VA isn't really my thing/I don't know him well. It might (hopefully) pleastantly surprise me.

im pretty much the same as you. i do go for the story first but hey if a few of my fave vas are gonna be in it then i might reconsider a bit more even if the story is looking a bit more bland haha
