Do you prefer more choices or more reading?

i prefer more reading. I play VNs because I want to experience a good story first. Choices are fun, but I'd rather have fewer meaningful ones than lots of random dialogue options that don't really change anything.

That part is really...I don't like it when there are options that are completely meaningless.

I'm fine with either, but in more story-focused games, I like more reading.

And I don't mind choices which don't affect the ending, a little bit confusing when I decided to go for a blind run is quite refreshing. I didn't play any game with too much reading or choices so I think I'm an easy person regarding this matter.
 
More choices, I like the feeling of being capable of influencing the plot and allows me to immerse myself, especially if it's a game where the MC doesn't have much personality or involvement.

I think it ultimately comes down to different play styles. To be honest, as long as the story is well written, I can enjoy both forms. Meaningful choices do add an extra layer of immersion, and knowing that my decisions can lead to different endings makes me more emotionally invested in the plot. That said, if the writing is compelling enough, I can also fully appreciate a more reading focused experience.

I tend to prefer having more choices that lead to different story routes, and that naturally requires more scenario text. So essentially, there isn't much difference between these two preferences.

I do find it exciting to be able to choose and surprise myself with the outcome. But I guess it still comes down to good writing ^^

I would prefer more reading; more choices would be cool in theory but I feel like the extra choices would be overwhelming.

For me it depends on the story really, I enjoy reading especially when it's giving a better understanding to the world around me or within the scene. I don't mind more choices but I find that it can dilute the games and in some of the games I've played doesn't feel really relevant

I think one of the great appeals of video games—something you can't experience through reading—is that choosing different options leads to interesting developments and different story branches. That's exactly why I prefer games with choices.
That said, if the differences resulting from those choices are minimal, it feels pointless. In the end, maybe all that really matters is whether the story and presentation are compelling.
 
I enjoy having more options to choose from. It's fascinating to be able to influence the progression of a game, even with options for minor details. Especially when the storyline of some games lacks sufficient appeal, coupled with limited options, it can lead to frequent distractions and a sense of being trapped.
 
I definitely like having choices! Reading a story without options makes you just a bystander with no sense of participation; while the choices provided are still routes following a predetermined script, they create so much more readability.

Coincidentally, the lyrics of the song I'm listening to perfectly express my thoughts: 'Billions of possibilities, all extending from the palm of your hand' — that's exactly why I love visual novels!
 
Depends honestly. But in general, I prefer more reading, unless it is a way too immersive game or visual novel where we get to build up a character and chose our endings.
 
I don't mind having more choices, but the problem is that too many options can lead to certain endings, directly or indirectly.
And since I have to use lots of save files, some get overwritten and are gone.
Then I have to replay the whole game — especially in RPGs without a skip button. When the latest save is overwritten and I'm basically forced to start over, it's honestly so frustrating.

More choices do make the story more engaging and immersive, so I don't mind that. But please, keep the ending-impacting choices to a minimum, and don't space them out too far apart either.
 
To me, I enjoy having choices as long as the amount reflects the possible endings as well tbh. Like what does it matter if the game has 10 different choices if the only endings you could get were Good, Neutral, and Bad
 
Love the choices for sure !! Especially when it has real consequences on the story or changes the Mc's stats/impact her future behaviors
 
I prefer more choices, especially if they actually carry some weight. Having big decisions to make really helps a game feel less linear. While I don't mind a bit of reading or smaller dialogue options, but if a choice has zero impact on the story, it just leaves me wondering what the point was 😗
 
🌸 I'm new to otome games (only played LaDs), but from what I've seen, I prefer more reading! It's so cute, especially when there are images that show their feelings and more if the art captures all feelings at the moment!! 🌸

我其实并不偏好更多或更少的选择。我关心的是，当作者设计一个选择时，它实际上是有意义的——比如让我清楚地看到两个选项会导致不同的结局，或者会发展成不同的爱情线。而不是为了防止我在长时间点击时走神而随意添加的。那真的很无聊。
 
i like having choices but it can also be overwhelming to have too much choices and i do like to enjoy just reading without too many pauses
 
I like more choices but i can sacrifice that if the few choices actually matter and lead to different scenes and consequences. I also mostly like a lot of choices when it comes to character creation and customization unless the premade character is done well and consistent in their personality.
 
I don't mesh well with extremes of either. 🤔Too much reading with no choices feels like I'm just scrolling an illustrated novel, but constant filler options that don't change anything also kill the vibe. My ideal VN packs lots of thoughtful writing, paired with rare, high-stakes choices that actually shift the story's direction.☺️
