for me its Hakuoki need i say more

there's also Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly which i remember genuinely left me traumatized after i finished my first route

also special mention to Collar x Malice and Piofiore some of those bad ends still haunt me at 2AM

will also never forget Kuroyuk's route from Nightshade the amount of angst is *chef's kiss

i could go on and on tbh???

but would love to hear your thoughts i've found i'm rly into this genre and i'm looking for more like it!!!

Shinigami to Shoujo. It doesn't have a single really happy ending, only normal ones, and this is not a joke. The amount of angst in this game is roughly equal to the Indian Ocean, and if you add there all my tears I cried while playing, it will become Atlantic 🫠

Honorable mentions to Cafe Enchante for skillfully hiding all the heavy stuff behind the cute and light facade 👍

i've heard about it but now i need Shinigami to Shoujo localized stat because this review got me curious. i definitely need to check out Cafe Enchante soon too!! love a good cry

Shuuen no Virche makes me depressed and im genuinely not even joking that shit had me sobbing 😭😭 not to mention the beautiful and depressing ost

this is why i've been avoiding playing it for a while now actually, i've read the premise, and as much as i love tragedy otome, sometimes i'm simply not in the right headspace for some of it😅 but rly, this kinda makes me look forward to playing it even more!! but perhaps when my heart is a bit more ready is when i'll go for it
