What do you think of the canon favorite in otome?

I love these routes because they're where the writers lay out all the cards, explaining the lore, the history of the world, and the villains' true motives. Without a canonical route, the game often feels unfinished business.

I think that making anything canon kind of sacrifices the feeling that you have choice in the story. I know a lot of people play every single route, but I don't want to HAVE to play every route to feel that I got a complete story.

Like Violetta19 mentioned that these routes are where all the lore is. That's not really a preferable scenario for me. It should be distributed more evenly, especially if they want to incentivize playing all of the routes.

Not really, no. I actually tend to dislike the canonical character because most of the route is more about tying up all the loose ends and less about romance overall which is what I want most from otome games.

Personally, I prefer equality among routes, so I'm not a big fan of canon routes =)) especially when the canon LI gets blatant favoritism and a canon happily-ever-after. It makes it feel like all the other routes are just irrelevant side pieces sDdd

Also, since canon routes tend to dump all the heavy lore, world-building, and main conflict resolution on you, it easily becomes boring and draggy, or just lacks romance entirely.

Plus, it's often recommended to be played last since it provides the full closure and contains all the spoilers, which makes me feel like I don't have the freedom to choose, if that makes sense =))

*whispers* Though honestly, the canon guy is rarely my type, and that's probably the root cause of my hatred for everything else I just mentioned lol.

I actually prefer having a canon favorite! I mean, it does break my heart a bit when my personal bias isn't the canon LI, especially if it feels like their route got less love and effort from the writers... But if the game has a dark, deep lore, I feel like a canon favorite really elevates the overall story quality. That being said, if it's just a lighthearted, slice-of-life game, I'd much prefer all LIs to have equal focus without anyone being pushed as the main guy!
