Do you clear all the characters in an otome game before starting a new one?

Do you clear all the characters in an otome game before starting a new one? Or do you just clear your favorite characters and starting?

I used to just clear my favorite characters and start a different game. But last time, in a game I 100% cleared called Usotsuki Shangri-La, there was a character you could only unlock after clearing all the other characters.

So I cleared every single character, but after seeing the story, I actually ended up liking a character I hadn't cared for before!

Since then, I've been thinking that going for a full clear might be a good idea too.

If only I had plenty of time to play games, I'd love to full clear them.

I make it a rule to finish a game 100% before starting the next one.

It's simply because if I put it off thinking, "I'll do it later," I end up forgetting all about it😅
Plus, I've had times when I got hooked on LI, even though my first impression of him wasn't great!

I don't usually full clear a game before starting a new one. For me, it really depends on whether the plot is interesting. If I find the story boring, I'll just drop it and move on to the next game without finishing it.

I do try to clear games before moving on because I am mostly a completionist, but sometimes it's tough because I find that the game is a slog/I don't like the remaining LIs. I don't have as much free time anymore to play games so I'd rather not be spending my time playing a game I'm no longer interested just to clear it. But in those cases i promise I will come back and beat them one day. I tell myself that one day my backlog will be clear

I do my best to finish a visual novel, but I have to admit not every game has equally good writing in all the routes, so sometimes I'll just stop reading the vn and pick up a different one. No point in forcing myself to keep reading if I'm not enjoying myself.

I'll try to complete everything if possible, but sometimes I lose motivation halfway through. When that happens, instead of forcing myself to continue, I'll play another game for a while and come back to it later, or sometimes I just leave it unfinished. Rather than forcing myself to 100% complete every game, I prefer to play whatever I'm in the mood for at the time.

I make an effort to but sometimes a change of pace is necessary! Be it to hop into a different otome game or simply another visual novel or even an RPG, anything. My backlog is too big!

I try to complete it, but to be honest, the first route has to be really good for me to do it. It's something I learned with Piofiore, because when I did the Dante route first as recommended, I honestly got really lazy and didn't want to keep playing.

I always finish all the routes! It can get confusing if I'm juggling multiple routes in different games at once ;b

I'll push through any routes I dislike without much trouble, but I usually don't have many cases were I'll like only a few routes in a game. If the writing is bad, it'll be through the whole game, not just one or two routes lmao

(If I dislike a route in a game I otherwise liked, it's more about personal taste or minor gripes with the plot than the one character)

I used to be incapable of starting a new game until I 100% my current one but now I go with the flow. I will make an attempt at completing it but if I'm not feeling it then I'll do whoever I'm interested in a put the game aside and start a new one. Your time is valuable so I think its not good to force yourself to finish a game for completionism.

I also had situations where i liked characters that didn't catch my attention at first. So, if i enjoy the game, i try to finish all routes—who knows who i might end up liking! :D and it's interesting for me to read others routes too anyway

I don't play everyone at once, though. I used to, but now i usually play a few games and switch between them!

That's amazing!

When I 100% clear a game, it feels great because I feel like I completely understand it.

I really wish I had more time..

There is nothing more boring than telling a boring story.

If there's no reason, I wouldn't target all the characters either.

It depends how good the game was and how much I enjoyed the writing and routes. I won't complete certain routes if I know I won't like them based on the character introduction and certain personality traits.

I just clear my favorite's routes, and fast foward the others needed to unlock the true end (if there is one). I used to 100% but now i prefer to jump to the next one.

I used to be the type of person who had to completely finish one game before starting another. But after being away from otome and BL games for quite a while, I only recently got back into them. These days, I switch between several games instead of focusing on just one.

Sometimes I wonder if playing multiple games at the same time might get confusing, but surprisingly, it doesn't. Even when I come back to a game after a break, I can still remember the story and piece everything together pretty well :)

I understand the mindset of wanting to stick to one game at a time, but I can't do it myself. Juggling multiple games helps me prevent myself from getting burned out, so I generally have a couple different otomes with different vibes (fantasy, sci fi, slice of life, etc) on rotation, plus other non-otome games as well. When I get tired of reading, it usually puts me off returning to any game at all for weeks, so in order to prevent that I need to switch around.

Inevitably, I do plan on 100% completing every game I do not outright drop, but definitely not 1 by 1, or else I know it'll take me forever. Personally, I do not consider a visual novel "complete" until I've seen all of the routes and ends. Sometimes I do forget a couple of things or need to do a little rereading, but I don't particularly mind that.

I used to make myself clear every route, but then I realized I really don't have that much time. Some characters just don't interest me enough, and playing their routes isn't that enjoyable for me. So nowadays I usually only play the characters I like instead of going for a full completion.
