What's one trope or type of love interest you absolutely can't stand in otome games?

I don't really like oblivious types, it gets pretty frustrating after some time. Same thing for (some) kuudere characters! It needs to have a balance, or it just comes off as a way to create conflict
Some titles will just stretch it to the limit, and you end up with a route that doesn't develop properly at all, just to get all the romance rushed in the last 10% of the game!

I also really dislike miscommunication, especially when it's for stupid reasons and the LI just jumps to conclusions... the MC does everything to help you the whole game, and now you just assume she's a traitor out of nowhere? It makes me so mad!

(It's kinda funny that I don't like these tropes because I do like shy LIs, and they're oblivious pretty often as well lmao)

miscommunication and misunderstandings that could be solved in five minutes, if characters would actually talk to each other, and instead they drag on for *drama*.

"I don't deserve you/I'm not good enough for you" - let me decide that! The same with "I'm pushing you away to protect you"

Older guy(ex : benkei from birushana, etc). Idk, i just don't like it and when in romantic scene, i just feel uncomfortable.

Not a fan of oblivious main characters who take forever to catch on that someone has feeling for her, also hate it when someone bullies them and they don't do anything about it or even worse the bully gets easily forgiven.

Cheaters are an ablosulte nope for me. I also not a big fan of stoic and silent boys, they just bore me.

There are several tropes I dislike:
  • LI who's a womanizer and the protagonist doesn't seem to care; it's almost impossible to believe he suddenly develops feelings for her.
  • LI who's still very attached to a past love.
  • The lack of communication that borders on the absurd, and it infuriates me even more when it occurs between adults.
  • Characters with a deeply ingrained older brother complex.

I hate controlling, bland, LIs. I also hate the type who are tsunderes in general because it's mostly done in a way that seems cold to the protagonist.

I'm not a fan of Insta-love, but I also dislike when characters are overly oblivious.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I'm not a big fan of shota-type characters. I don't mind when the male lead is younger than the female lead, but I don't see anything appealing in him acting like a cute child or being generally very immature. So yes, I admit it, I don't like Heisuke from Hakuōki, Shota Amachi from Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 2, or Kanato from Diabolik Lovers.

The arrogant type who thinks he knows the mc better than she knows herself 💀 It could be funny, sure, and I'm open to character growth, but more often it's just frustrating.
I also don't like overly flirtatious LIs, when you know it's just an act to appear "friendly" or "safe" (??). Nuh-uh.
Not a fan of "acts rudely but is actually a softy". If you act rudely, scream and swear - sorry, no amount of kitty-patting will help improve your image now.

Flirty and dominant combination. Yeah, i obviously hate you guys so leave me alone pls 🥺

I can't stand shota characters. XD Like no. Even if they say they're 18 and is the same age/older than the MC, I CANNOT stand it. My dislike for this trope was so strong that in highschool, I declared that I really can't get to like a certain shota character, and a highschool classmate who accidentally eavesdropped glared at me(apparently she loves that shota character). I don't think I can forget it because I rarely butt heads with anyone. XD

I also generally don't like red flag LIs as a whole as well, but it's an automatic no for me if it's a shota character.

Narcissistic , the heavy flirts and the brother/stepbrother love interests are the ones that repel me the most and make me turn up my nose. Then there are the Yanderes; I don't exactly hate them but I do find their obsession off-putting. I've actually mentioned this before, and I still maintain that Yandere characters leave me feeling confused because they are so obsessed with the MC, it becomes difficult to tell whether they genuinely love her or if they simply view her as a possession and a source of admiration. I find it annoying; it leaves things feeling inconclusive in the end. :/

I don't like characters who are surrounded by women. I understand that he has one girl following him, but definitely not many (especially if he doesn't do anything to stop them).
