In BL games, do you prefer top MC, bottom MC or Switch MC ?

I prefer top MC because I like dominant protagonists. But if a game is good enough, I'm totally down to try other stuff, partly because top MCs are pretty rare anyway.

Switch MC, best of both worlds! I especially would like it if you could decide inside the route if you wanted to top or bottom but I don't think there's a game like that yet?

There are many games like that ! It's just most of it is old and it's mostly in japanese...
 
Top MC all the way... it's just more fun for me when I'm seeing things through their POV, like I want all these cute boys under me!! A selection of ukes is definitely more appealing than a selection of semes for me.
I also just get annoyed when I'm in the mind of an uke for too long... it's definitely a me thing. Which is why I'm generally not interested in uke MC games, and the few I do play I tend to fixate on one LI and the rest of the pairings becomes landmines.😭
Switch BLVNs are great (the ones that let you switch for every scenario, not the ones where it depends on the LI. Those annoy me a bit cuz its like just let me choose for all of them😢), my favorite BLVN of all time even is Shingakkou, but I'd still prefer it'd be seme MC because it makes looking through fancontent easier🤭
I'm really hoping the popularity of Ooe inspires more seme MC games... I know one in development is さよなら純青、またきて青春 (Sayonara Junsei, Mata Kite Seishun)

honestly i'm fine with any of them 😭 switch MC is probably my favorite option overall though since i like being able to enjoy every dynamic depending on the LI/route!!
but in general i don't really mind whether the MC is top, bottom, or switch as long as the chemistry and romance are good 🙏

In terms of preferences, I'm on team top & switch. Power bottom would be awesome too but I'm not pushing my luck there. Ultimately though, I don't really mind the way MCs swing in H-scenes as long as I find the scenes themselves appealing and I like the game's story. I can always imagine stuff on my own if I would have preferred a MC and his LIs to switch around!

I'm sad to hear that Chuki Chuki Eroriman is apparently disappointing from the discussion in this thread :( but at least I guess it helps to lower my expectations once I actually get to it. I should also give Hadaka Shitsuji another try and try out Kanja S one of these days, but I'll have to be in a very specific mindset for Hadaka Shitsuji since I remember tapping out quickly back when I first played it.

I used to really like Bottom MCs, but then I got tired of them and started liking Top MCs. The problem is that certain characters make me imagine the MC being either the passive or active partner with them, so when that doesn't happen it leaves me slightly frustrated, not terribly, of course.

I don't really like Bratty MCs, especially if they're the kind that are rude for no reason or literally being Bratty is the only thing the character is capable of. Especially if they're the kind that deny their sexuality, like, okay! You don't have to be gay, be whatever you want, but for God's sake, I don't need the MC saying "We can't! I'm not gay!" in an NSFW scene, or any other romantic scene, 8 out of 10 words. (ㆆࡇㆆ")

Same thing with the Top MC; if it's one of those super cold, extremely playboyish types who melts others with a look and a touch, leaving the Bottoms moaning pathetically just by saying a cliché line like "I bet nobody ever made you moan like me, haha." it's a big no-no for me. (ᗜ _ ᗜ)

So lately I've been preferring Switch! I think the best case scenario is Switch MC, where you choose whether you want to be the Top or Bottom in the scenes and with the characters you want. Usually, when they're Switches, the personality tends to be more normal.

(However, I won't deny that there are times when I like Bratty MCs and playboy Top MCs, the way I complained above.)

In the end, I usually look at the characters, look at the MC, and decide what I want for them at the moment, and if it's not the way I imagined when I play, then I just don't play.

Variety is the spice of life, so I generally prefer switch MCs if available, but when push comes to shove I prefer top MCs over bottom MCs. My preferences aren't so strong that I'm particularly displeased by any of the three, though my BLVN experience is admittedly pretty shallow right now. Maybe it's because most of the BL light novels I read are bottom POV so I want to even the scales a bit?

as someone whose first exposure to BL was Kichiku Megane, I have to admit that I've always preferred top mcs WAAAY more. i usually find bottom mcs lackluster both in personality and voice acting (for the exception of Tokyo Onmyouji, i adore Rei), and i think it's way more fun when you get to dominate your love interests and hear a variety of moans lmao.
btw for anyone interested in switch mcs i suggest giving Kami-sama Kari a try. it's pretty good and a rare example of an mc who also changes their age at a whim

Man, some variety is needed, why must I content myself with a Top, Bottom or Switch? If I can be a Service Top, a Power Bottom, or anything in between. We're getting cliche.

Yeah i agree, i just like being dominant and the fastest way to become dominant is by becoming TopMC...
I also play Shingakkou as the Seme MC ! Once, because of my mistake in choices, i got the MC as the Uke and uhh... i did not have a good time and didn't touch the game for a while before eventually picking it up again (cuz Shingakkou story in itself is peak, but being the uke turns me off so much)

Yeah i hope so too ! Top MC BLVN is rarely making noises in the west (in japan too ig) 😔 Probably because most of them don't really have a serious plot unlike Bottom MC BLVN (Most serious one i can think from the top of my head is switch MC)

Before Ooe i think the last mainstream Top MC BLVN in the west is Hadaka but it's more about the shock factor...

Uhh anyway, i didn't know about the game you mentioned thank you for opening it into my radar !

Ohh how i wished that one day there will be a day that i can get a power bottom on my BLVN 😔

Also uhh yeah, sorry to spoil the fun on ChukiEro...

Also yeah, Hadaka Shitsuji is uhh... not for the weak and not for every occasion... Sometimes you can be in mood to play the game sometimes it's just... a chaos

If you want milder experience, just try Kanja S first ! Though there is still some part that is just sadism, It's not as bad as Hadaka (me think)

I hope one day we will be back to the era of switch MC... I guess producing games is becoming more expensive i guess but seeing the old games with switch mc for every LI gave me so much whimsy and joy

ALSO YES SHIBUSAWA IS THE BEST BOY ! He need more appreciation, i need to advertise Kanja S more so more people know about him !
Also yeah too bad that his scene is limited, and there is not much information about him after the story (since he doesn't have after stories section and his tokuten is just him still in the game setting)
I really need KanjaS FD to know more about himmm 😭

I LOVE KAMO!!! His moans, as far as I recall, were not very impressive (imo) but I love me an older man in a suit who gets flustered at every touch, so cute!! + the fact that we've been blessed with old men yaoi back then still baffles me. i need more

I like Bottom MC the most. It's much easier for me to relate to the protagonist and fall in love with him when he's on the receiving end.
I'd love to hear about the protagonist characters you guys really fell for!

I don't have a clear-cut preference, as long as the erotic scene is well written. Unfortunately, tbh I don't like most sex scenes in BL (but I'm hard to please I guess XD). Anyway, maybe I'd say I prefer switch because it's more interesting to read.
