What do you think of female routes in otome games?

The more the merrier? Very interesting, too. There's this game called Volcano Princess, it's not an otome game, but the game had both male characters and male characters you can romance

I don't mind if there are female character routes, but I won't play them.

I was about to mention it! I was worried that the female routes would have less content compared to the male ones, but it's very well balanced. I liked it.

But yeah, overall I enjoy both, the female and male routes 👌

Idk, i just feel like if there's female LI, it lost the meaning of otome. Because, there's a genre after all. I mean, if i want yuri, i just play yuri game instead of otome.

Personally, I like them, but they should give more depth to their relationships because they tend to be very quick or superficial. 🎀

I like them! It's nice seeing the MC have friends too, apart from romantic interests. And if their routes can be romantic as well, even better. I love variety lol

I don't really care for it either.. whether its friendship or romance, it's less interesting than regular male char route.

I don't mind playing female character routes, but they really shouldn't make up too large a proportion. For ensemble cast games like the Harukanaru Toki no Naka de series, the Kiniro no Corda series, and Zettai Meikyuu Grimm, I think adding female character routes is perfectly fine, whether they're friendship‑oriented or romance‑oriented.

I don't play them, except when it's something fresh (breaking from the usual otome and anime tropes, e.g., muscular women), but otome is meant for a female audience... which includes lesbians and bisexual women. So, I agree there should be a bit of everything. I'd like to see a non-binary character (like a robot or something).

Written for women by women; very watered down romance, better off as close friendship/.o./ I still think Yuri/Yaoi games should remain separate and not crossover into Otome. If that spot/story arc could have been taken by male LI; instead feels like an outreach fanservice for male audience to dip their toes. (JP creators need to boldly commit) Western ones are more forward, doesn't feel yuri-lite. I don't even want a single female route in my otome game; it's unfavourability stays in the back of my self-insert head ;-; *gatekeeping opinion)

As long as there are male routes to even them out, then I don't mind. I enjoy playing them as it can be a nice change of pace, especially if it delves more into the lore/plot of MC/the route.

I like them! I don't really think it detracts from the game or the other routes. Just more story and another beautiful woman on my screen (the first, of course, being my mc).

I've actually never saw Jaehee's route as a friendship route. For me, it was always just a heavily censored romance route...
