Do you prefer softer/realistic romances or intense ones?

ive noticed that when it comes to my favorite love interests i usually enjoy the ones that have a softer build up to them with the mc and li being good support systems for each other ^^; i do like intense love interests when it comes to possessive or clingy behavior but i dont enjoy the ones with a lot of extreme yearning or slow burn. that kind of unconditional love is something i enjoy much more when it's one-sided cause that's a more realistic outcome in my eyes even if it's the harsher option.

i also just find it hard to imagine that the mc and li would have a long term sustainable relationship if most of their love is built on that intensity cause a lot of the times im left confused that what even is it about this other person that is bringing out this devotion from you? maybe i view things from a pragmatic eye rather an entertainment focused one but i do enjoy yearning too as long as it is from a believable perspective (like friends to lovers)

this is all of course focused on healthy romances with green flag lis ^^ with red flag lis i find that the romance is almost always intense so there's not much discussion there

I much prefer the softer/realistic romances. Usually with the very intense love I feel there is little build-up, which kind of breaks the immersion for me. I don't like it when the LI is just suddenly in love with the MC (barring the childhood friend, or I've -always-loved-you type) after spending like, two days together. I want the build-up. Like you, I want to see them as good supports, having true reasons to love one another. That might also be because I don't really self-insert, I want to see the MC and LI as a couple, not the LI in love with me lol

Though I am with you for the red flag LIs, cause I love the craziness of it all!

I feel like it depends on my mood for the day, I totally love both types of romances. It's like asking if I like vanilla or chocolate ice cream more imo, there's just different vibes to them. Yearning and slow burn are my bread and butter especially if it comes with angst. I really want a long build up to when they finally admit their feelings and put it all on the line because they've been pushed too far to stop and really fast moving romances where you can tell that they have a spark between them has me kicking my feet. It's like when you meet someone you click with at every level and everything falls into place very easily. I also feel very much like sometimes the LIs just have really unhealthy attachment styles and that's okay, because I can fix him. It's very much appealing to the he's treats me special compared to other people part of it. It's the kind of love that a cat would show once they finally open up. /ᐠ ̥ ̮ ̥ ᐟ\ฅ

I like the softer/realistic ones, because I find those to be the more hard hitting romances. Because we at times rarely see couples who are healthy online and in a lot of our media. So seeing how a relationship should look like in terms of a healthy and communicative matter, it just feels better for me. Yes I love the drama and suspense in the storylines, but just two people in love actually caring for one another? Perfection.

感觉现实已经很让我疲惫了,所以还是更倾向温和的故事,不过想一想现实的玩得更多,给人的感触也更大。(๓´˘`๓)

I feel exhausted by reality, so I prefer gentle stories. However, when I think about the more fun and emotional experiences in reality, it gives me a deeper feeling.(๓´˘`๓)

I like both, but it depends on the setting! For more contemporary titles, taking the realistic approach feels more fulfilling. However for some historical or fantastical stories I think the intensity can have a better payoff, especially in life or death and other high-stakes plots!

I tend to be more drawn to romances that convey a sense of deep-seated emotions. I love stories featuring childhood friends or long-held crushes. The comfort and the changes that arise from having known each other for so long really make my heart flutter.

I dont like dramatic love story :D
For example, ''Ao haru ride'' i dislike that kind of story, at first i thought it was sweet first love, but suddenly it changed to dramatic story (i read the manga, about the anime i dont remember anymore). I accept complicated realistic romances, but not like that, it felt like ''to make audience suffer''. I didnt understand the characters.

A good example, the anime that recent released koori no jouheki, the characters dont are simple as they are, they have complex personalities inside and complex family situation, but the author made the audience understand their feelings and emotions, the author didnt write their story for the audience to suffer but make the audience empathize with their stories.

Conclusion, for otome games, i can either softer, realistic or complex romance, but it really depends on the writing skills.

In my case, I prefer soft, realistic romances; seeing how the two people in love care for each other makes it more beautiful.

I like both intense and gentle things, as long as I can understand "how it happened." If it's too sudden or I have questions, I tend to lose interest rather than enjoy it.

I love softer romances, it feels more natural and less forced, its like the romance happens organically and thats what I like! I love how its these routes can show us how MC and LI support eachother and open up emotionally little by little, with them finally getting together in the end. It just feels way more rewarding than an intense love that feels forced and manufactured

I feel like intense romances try too hard to push the idea of the couple together and try to convince us of this undeniable magnetic attraction between MC and the LI... it gets so boring and insta-lovey. I very much feel this way with Sylus and MC from love and deepspace, the game tries so hard to push this narrative of enemies to lovers but undeniable attraction between the two.. like mate, save that for the booktok y/n x ceo fics 😭

I think I prefer stories that are more intense. I really enjoy things that are exciting and thrilling.

That said, gentle and sweet romance is nice too. I think it's very relaxing. It really depends on my mood and the situation. (ᵔᴥᵔ)

I'm always drawn to rich, intense stories - they're pure escapism for me. That's why I choose stories that could hardly ever happen in real life, usually fantasy settings featuring demons, yokai, and vampires - with their unique quirks, culture and their own worlds.
Then the tension works - the key is for the writers to create a plot where everything makes sense and the tension doesn't feel awkward or pushed.

For more tender, romantic stories, I choose manga and anime - I love it in this format.

I generally prefer more intense and dramatic romances💕
I find them more exciting, and they tend to pull me deeper into the story.

That said, I also enjoy softer and more realistic romances if the story is well-written and the characters are compelling.
For me, the quality of the story and characters matters more than the type of romance itself.

realistic, but that doesn't mean less intense.
I love a bit of drama to move it a bit, also some plot twist, but not too much. Still in a realistic (for the setting also) way of evolution.
Quality always, more than the type as @e_11 said.

messy and intense with taboo themes. realism and will it last: high stakes, earned love. can have deredere ending after target subjugation. two imperfects that don't abandon eachother at their lowest constitues a strong bond.

Prefer to the intense one, but some games have a perfect balance, for example, amnesia, that there is a strong/intense relationship at the beginning but the softer/realistic process of relationship development is from memory, and only keep the key parts and skip the daily life, which let people to enjoy the good part of both pattern~~~
