Do you prefer long common route -> shorter character route OR short common route -> longer character route

The second, I think, I have just finished Black Wolves Saga, and I think the long route character is the one I prefer.

Assuming that it's well written, I prefer it to be balanced? So the common and character routes have at least the same length. I'd love to know more about the background information and such from the common route but I'd also love to dive more into each of the LI.

JackJeanne is one of my fav otome and it has longer common route that's really enjoyable to read and makes me care for all the characters but not gonna lie the character routes can be better.

I prefer shorter common route, if it's too long it just gets kind of boring and I might stop playing the game at all..

short common route -> longer character route. I want to experience the dynamic between MC and Li and it need more screen time to show just that. Also, I don't mind having shorter common route if it meant the main plot is being revealed in each character route!

I definitely prefer short common route and longer character route, I like the focus more on your chosen route than just something general.

I've played games where you choose the route as if it were episodes (DiaLovers has no common route), with a short common route that branches into each character's route or with a long common route with slight variations and you only get into a certain character halfway through the game, and honestly it depends.
If the game is untranslated having a long common route is quite tiring since I have to translate everything to see if there are any different scenes (ex. Juuzaengi doesn't skip everything you have already seen if there is a slight dialogue difference, which makes sense since the conclusion of that scene is different, but I end up rereading stuff I've already translated and sometimes get confused, but seeing how choosing a different option can lead to a different outcome in a battle can be quite rewarding).
However having a shorter common route canlead to more time with the chosen LI and thus better character development, so I do prefer that

Definitely a short common route with longer character route. I get why at time there are long common routes to set up the story and learn even more about the LIs but that just shortens the LIs routes making it feel rush at times. The reason I play otome games is for the different LIs on how the relationships evolve over the routes, a good story is just the cherry on top for me.

Short common route , longer character story
I want more moments with my fav MLs

I also think it depends on the type of game, but in general, I prefer a short common route and longer character routes.

I really like stories where a short common route is followed by long, in-depth character routes. I love how the relationships deepen gradually and the emotional arcs are developed in detail for each character—it really helps me get immersed in the story. It's fun because, even though it's the same game, the different atmosphere and plot developments in each route make it feel like I'm experiencing a whole new story.

I prefer a short common route and a long character route. 🫰🫰
Although the common route provides a good overview of the world-building and game settings, I believe the character routes are the most important part, but sometimes there are exceptions where I'd prefer a long common route if the story is really engaging 🤗🤗

Short common route and long character route all the way!
But both in balance is good too for me.

short common route -> longer character route. i understand the point of common routes and i agree that they could be really fun if its well written(they have more charas in them and you can see characters interact with each other after all) but i feel like most games common route tends to be boring? maybe i just encountered boring ones though

Yeah I def wouldn't want to sacrifice characters' routes lenght for the common route.

I prefer longer character routes to long common routes. Either way, I like longer routes because they allow me to immerse myself more in the game.

It's depended on the world of the novel, I guess. The common routes are essential for the context of the characters. The fictional world needs to have a lot of explanation to grasp what's going. So I don't really mind if the common routes long or short. However, if the character routes are too short then it's a no no for me.

I prefer longer character routes bc I want to see how each character and the relationship evolves and I need there to be enough time for the characters to open up to each other, get to know each and develop feelings for each other. Otherwise the romance feels unearned and rushed. Also, I get easily attached to different LI characters and the longer the common route is he harder time I have to decide which character to pursue 😁

Story-heavy titles: longer common route
Otherwise: shorter common route

If every individual routes are connected along with the same storyline, a longer common route is totally acceptable!
However, when the game emphasizes romance or each route follows its own parallel-world-like settings, I'd prefer a shorter common route.

Since I skip most commons after first playthrough and would only replay if true route exists, short individual routes could be unsatisfying after all.

For me personally I prefer a short common route (at least have introduced the brief world building and the LI) with longer individual route!

It depends on whether the plot of the game itself is interesting
Personally, I prefer games with long storylines, but they shouldn't be too boring, and the game pace shouldn't be too slow

I prefer short common routes because long ones can get repetitive. I like spending more time on the individual character's route instead.

I guess it depends, but in romance games I think it's better when the character route is longer than the common route, since I'm the kind of annoying person who needs a slow burn and solid development to buy into the romance, lol

Like others have said, I definitely would prefer longer character routes and shorter common. I would like to have a lot of time with my chosen LI than be stuck in the common route which I will have to go through a bunch of times for each character.
