Do You Like Otome Games With More Than One MC?

For example, games like Norn9, which has 3 MCs and 9 LIs total (3 for each MC). Each MC has her own personality and her own set of love interests.

Do you like this kind of setup? Or do you prefer having just one MC to focus on?

Personally, I really like it. It's easier to find a character I can relate to.

It's fun how the characters' personalities and storylines are completely different depending on who you play as.

Norn9 was fun, too!
It looks like Handsome Laundering has two protagonists as well, so I plan to give it a try once I finish the game I'm playing right now.

I hope we see more otome games with multiple protagonists.

I like them! It's fun seeing a different perspective of the same world, and I enjoy when they have MC-specific LIs that complement her quirks :)

It's important for those games to avoid too many routes or MCs though, since it can end up with many underdeveloped characters if it's not done carefully. I also prefer when multiple MC games have at least two routes for them, instead of just one, but I'm fine with either!

I haven't played many games with multiple MCs, but I do really like it. I think partly it's because it forces the writers to come up with different personalities for the MCs, which I love. I don't care too much for the always happy, kind of clueless MC that I feel is a common type.

I can't really say. The only otome game I've played like that was Norn9, and unfortunately, it didn't really grab me :(

I haven't played that many games with multiple MC but I do like to see the different perspectives, it feels like reading a book series which each volume has a new MC. It's actually my favorite type of series but not that common in games

I love your Castiel pfp!

Personally, I don't really like it.
The protagonist feels like just another character in the cast, making it hard to connect with them. The scattered perspective also detracts from the sense of immersion.
When there are multiple protagonists, their individual personalities tend to stand out, and if they don't match your preferences, playing the game can feel like a chore.
Of course, if I found them all cute, the game would be so much more fun.

Jumping in as a self-inserter to say that I heavily dislike it because once an MC I'm not playing as is treated as a separate character, it feels off to me.

Even if the MC's have designated LIs, games will more often than not have situations where the MC you're playing as sees their LIs with the other MCs and gets jealous. I'm already guilty of tending to dislike characters who are seen as rivals to the MC, but this makes it much worse.

Outside of self-inserting, I'm not a fan of who is often chosen as the more canon route for an MC.

There aren't that many games with more than one MC and I haven't played many either but I love it! I love seeing more than one MCs with distinct personalities and having separate LIs for each and seeing how they match each other. It also makes gameplay more fun and refreshing because you won't be playing as the same MC each time. For these games I think having the MCs voiced (eg. Norn9) is important because you can see how they differ, brings their character to life, and see the MCs interact with each other. The only downsides I can think of having multplie MCs is that the routes may be shorter due more LIs than usual and one MC may be better written than the other.

Personally, I really like it! It's interesting to see how different LIs fall for different MCs, and I believe it's more understandble rather than believing that these 5 guys fell for one girl haha. There are downsides though, like how the story may become more scattered and the routes shorter, but I think multiple mcs is fine if it is done properly. After I played Norn9, I really liked the idea so I keep searching for more but sadly I didn't find many (╥﹏╥)

I did play Shiro to Kuro no Alice, Tlicolity Eyes, and Handsome Laundering! They were fun in their own right, but they didn't quite scratch the itch for more games like that. I really love to see more otome games utilizing this mechanic, so please tell me if you know more hehe ^^

I think it's an interesting concept. I've only tried Ayakashi Gohan that has 2 types of MC(same person, but what type she is depends on the choices you make on the prologue/when she was a child), and I honestly really loved this game so much.

There's this one game called Houkago Colorful Step that I wanted to try but didn't because that meant I needed to play a fully Japanese game. haha. I got interested in that game purely because I wanted an otome game that had more than one MC just like Ayakashi Gohan, but unfortunately this game doesn't have an english translation, and there's one game for each MC so you have to buy separately. I ended up not playing it at all. Lol.

I'd prefer if it was the same character, just in a different background or from a different perspective.

Either way, I don't see it done very often, and honestly I can understand why. It's already hard enough to make readers get attached to more than one protagonist in a book. Imagine trying to pull that off in a game where most players self-insert to some degree.

I really liked Tlicolity Eyes, Norn9, Handsome Laundering, and Hanakare. It was fun playing MCs with different personalities. I am looking forward to Les Grande Odalisque after the whole cancel then revive thing happened. But I feel it would be difficult to make a good game with multiple MCs without making it feel shallow. And it could get annoying if I liked a LI but not the MC that LI is for. So I guess multiple MCs games to me depends on whether I like all the MCs personalities

I've played Norn9 before, but only a little at the beginning—it was a long time ago, so I don't really remember much anymore. I've also played games with multiple MCs, like Him, The Smile & Bloom. I think I'm okay with and actually do like games with multiple MCs, but I don't play them that often ₍₍◞( •௰• )◟₎₎

I really loved Norn9 because it features multiple MCs! I'm the type of player who likes to immerse myself in the MC, and since Norn9 has MCs with such distinct personalities, it helped me figure out which type I relate to the most. Also, since each MC has her own LIs, it was so much fun trying to guess why the developers paired them up that way, haha.

I think otome games with multiple mcs are quite rare and I personally prefer the single mc system too. Otherwise it just feels like it's an entirely different game to me. But maybe it's just because I'm used to games with one main character.

I don't really like it. I wish I could like all the MCs, but that doesn't always happen.

I prefer one MC. In Norn i played only Mikoto and didn't want play other 2 girls. So i missed 6 routes... I tried play as Koharu but droped. I can't relate myself with her after Mikoto.

I don't dislike games with multiple MCs and I'll play them too, but personally, I prefer having just one MC. The heroine ends up becoming a one-and-only special presence to me. Also, when there are multiple MCs, sometimes my absolute favorite character isn't paired with the MC I like best, and it's kind of a bummer when that love interest isn't exclusive to my favorite heroine.

I don't know many games with such feature, but i find such idea interesting. Seeing the same setting from a different angle is really fun, and I love when each MC has a different unique personality, dynamic with their LIs and the way they complement each other ehehe

No, because sometimes i don't like the another heroine's personality ( and i may not play her male leads's route)

Personally, I haven't played games with multiple MC. But I think I'll like it, because there will be different personality that complement the LIs rather than just one.
