AI art in otome games

I don't want AI to be used because I don't think it can bring out a character's charm.
I also don't want AI to be used in the background because it distracts me.

ELIMINATE GEN AI FROM OTOME!!! Unfortunately, I had some suspicions, and I think one I'm playing right now is AI 😭 Otw to uninstalling...

I personally prefer artwork made by real artists. You can often feel the time, care, and individuality that went into it, and that gives the game a lot more emotional warmth for me.

I don't like works created by AI. If I wanted to play with AI, I could just go use an AI app myself, But I don't want commercial works to be created using AI.

i don't think i've seen ai otome games yet, but i don't think people would go for them because otome games are more about good character art works

I think the storyline is more important. But anyaway,I guess the AI art is not good enough to use in games by now.

As it stands, I don't like generative AI. Even if you don't take into account the ethical issues or the aesthetic concerns, it simply feels soulless.

I think AI could be used as an assistive tool to reduce people's workload on tedious tasks, but currently, people use gen AI to replace other people, which doesn't sit well with me. It's especially egregious when it comes from big companies wanting to cut corners. You've got the budget to work on a big title, hire some human artists instead of using gen AI in your assets!

I also don't think indie devs should resort to gen AI when there are resources out there that people can use for free in exchange for being listed in the credits, like stock images for backgrounds or royalty-free music. For example, Hatoful Boyfriend used only royalty-free music for its soundtrack and it didn't distract from what I was playing.

That being said, I don't like how some people nowadays are trigger-happy in regards to calling something AI-generated. I understand their concern, but the methods used to tell AI art or AI writing apart aren't foolproof, and could lead to people being witch hunted for happening to have an art style or a writing style that gen AI likes to replicate. This is why storefront disclaimers are invaluable, though unfortunately it doesn't stop people from potentially lying about using AI in their games.

If I know that there is AI art in a game, I will not buy it. Why should I care about a game if the devs don't care about enough to hire an artist?
I think AI art is entirely unethical and I want my money to support real human artists instead.

To be honest, I don't reject AI art in general, but the answer depends on the specific circumstances.

This is because some games are created by individual developers. Not all individual developers have sufficient funding. If the key aspects of the game's production—such as story creation—are handled independently without AI involvement, then the use of AI art in the game is acceptable.

However, in a commercial context, it is completely unacceptable for game companies to use AI art. AI can assist in the creative process, but the majority of the work must be done by human artists. The use of AI should help artists create more efficiently, not replace them in producing the artwork.

Most AI art was originally developed by training models on artists' works found online without permission. Unless the training of AI art models has been approved by the artists, and the artists receive appropriate financial compensation, the use of AI art in commercial games is completely unacceptable.

Sorry for using a translation tool; please forgive me.

Don't like AI art but any of the games except the IOS or Android game using it? If they use AI to generate the draft but another person to modify it before publish it's might be hard to identify~~~

I don't think they would be welcomed at all. In dlsite and on steam I think they're supposed to have tags if they have AI art and I haven't seen them at all yet. However, in hentai games I think there are many AI works..

I've seen some of the illustrations, but I feel like they all end up looking similar, lacking individuality. As a work of art, it doesn't leave me with a very good feeling. I'm not good at English, so translations are a huge help, though!

Fortunately, I haven't played any otome games where AI is used, but if I did, I'd be disgusted ngl, and probably drop it, cause I dislike AI a lot

I do not agree with AI genned art replacing art done by a human.

When it comes to otome games especially, it's absolutely insane as people will romance a stick figure if the character is written well. _(:3 」∠)_

Art IS very important to a game, but AI art is not worth the moral compromise to me.

I'm getting so afraid of not being able to detect AI art as it's getting so advanced and steadily increasing in games. o(TヘTo)

Art is such an important part of humanity that it's so sad to see people's livelihood and outlet being so flooded with machines that take the ART out for financial gain at the end of the day. ( ◞ ‸ ◟ )

As someone who does make use AI for various reasons and it's genuinely contributed to my life in a meaningful way... I would say there are caveats. Is the entire thing AI-generated? Has there been attention paid to detail? Or is it just... you know, run Stable Diffusion -> input prompt -> take the second or third output and call it a day. No inpainting, no nothing. For me, it's the effort that matters and what ultimately determines the final result.

IF - and only if - AI is used to meaningfully enhance the process in a way that makes it easier to produce something WITH higher quality, then I can get behind it. I won't tackle the issue of ownership and copyright here as that's a separate case entirely.

That being said, I don't think I have yet encountered any otome game specifically that's used AI art. I've seen plenty of Switch releases with low-quality AI artwork plastered all over them, but no otome games so far. I think the main appeal (or one of the reasons why people love it as much) is that the artwork is truly wonderful and someone has spent a lot of time figuring out how to make it meaningful to the story and beautiful. ૮₍ ´ ꒳ `₎ა

I do not like it. It speaks to laziness, and if they're willing to use AI for art then they're likely to use it for the writing as well, resulting in characters and story lacking depth.
