Is the first route important for your overall perception of the otome?

I'm playing this game because I want to see the happy ending, and I think the first route is important.

Not really as I follow the recommended route order. I usually prefer to leave my favourite character for the second route or third so I can look forward to something.

Umm, not for me. If I find the first route I played to be 'boring'. I just need to play another route. But if still boring, then just stop playing.

yeah. if the first route is boring or sours my taste then i get reluctant to complete the game

The first game route will somewhat affect my motivation to continue playing. If I find this route very boring, I am likely to give up the subsequent content, so I usually choose to start playing the route I am most interested in to maintain my enthusiasm for the game.

I consider the first route you complete to be crucial because it forms the foundation of the story.

Important! I always play the characters I am interested in first. I will be more motivated when playing the character I am interested in.

The first route and second route or so are very important to me. I go in blind, but try to get on the route of the LI I am most interested in, so sometimes I get on it, and sometimes I end up with another character, and in either case, if I really dislike the route/writing, I am much more likely to drop it. Though, this doesn't happen a lot, because I am also a completionist. Generally I play at least 2 routes, but if it doesn't get any better in the second route it goes into my backlog.

Yes! The first route always makes the biggest impact for me.. I tend to gravitate towards the characters that appeal to me the most, and I can always get a sense of how the story will flow. I feel like I can always see whether I would like the flow of the story or if the writing might be strange, which may turn me off slightly. But I have seen that one route might be less impactful from the rest, so it is always a good idea to try everyone's routes.

相当重要,如果第一条线给我的感觉不好,之后我就不会继续玩了。˵>ㅿ<˵

It's quite important. If the first line doesn't give me a good feeling, I won't continue playing afterwards.˵>ㅿ<˵

Yes! If the first route already boring, i dont have a spirit to try the others route ;;

I will give the common route a bit of a pass for the set up since it's usually long and a lot of buildup with little to no romance sometimes.

Though if the first chapter of a love interest's route is just as draggy or boring? Immediately shelving. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There's too many great games to play to have to do one that feels sluggish or a punishment to try and plunder through.

it is important, especially if i didnt like the prolouge. i wont quit the game if i dont like the first route but it would make me more judgemental towards the other routes

That's very important, and I totally agree.
If the first route is boring, I just think, "This isn't for me," and switch to skimming mode.
I usually play through the second route as well, but if that one doesn't click either, I'll stop playing.
And then the second route turns out to be really interesting, and I regret skimming through it.
(That was the case with "Hanaemu Kare to & bloom")

Yes!! Unless I'm ravenous for that particular VN if the first route doesn't vibe with me then I have a habit of putting the game down. Which makes me so sad because then the FOMO starts to kick in, what if I would have liked another LI? I wish I had all the time in the world to read all of these otomes T_T

The importance of individual character routes cannot compare to the first impression the common route leaves on me. If the common route's story is too juvenile or boring, I find it difficult to muster the interest to seriously read through the individual routes.
Take the otome game Yunohana Spring! as an example. I could barely play for ten minutes before getting angry. I felt very uncomfortable with the plot where male characters disregarded the heroine's will and used near-deceptive methods to persuade her to pause her career goals and stay in the countryside. I never opened that game again, let alone bothered to appreciate the character-specific stories.

The first route determines my overall impression of a game so it's really important to me. I've abandoned a lot of games because of a boring first route.

No, not in my case. When I go to VNDB, I read the character descriptions or just look at the cover (if they're all there), or I see a bit of the story, and then I decide who I'll choose first. It's almost always the one I like least or who catches my attention the least (I say almost because there are games where I choose someone I do like, but they're not my absolute favorite, for example, Laito from Diabolik Lovers. In any game in that series, I'll always choose him first, even if he's not my favorite, just because I like him). And that's how I go one by one until I finish the game with the one I like the most. The reason is that if I start with the one I'm most interested in and it turns out they're my favorite in that game (9 out of 10 times this happens), I tend to regret not playing them last and I start losing interest in the whole game. It's happened to me several times that the excitement gets the better of me. 😌🤌

Yes, because it sets my standard and expectation for other routes. If I get unlucky and my first route is kinda bad, I'll still give it a second chance and go for a different route. It might get better and I will continue playing but if it's as bad or even worse, I might drop it altogether.

Yeah, it's kind of a let down if I just can't get into the story for the whole route. In such cases, it's skip for me

Definitely! It's okay if I don't like the first recommended or enforced LI, but at least the route should be interesting store-wise. Unless I know "it gets better", I can drop a VN if the first route is a let down.

For me, how much I like the main character tends to have a bigger impact on my overall impression of the work than the first route.

Not for me. I mostly play the routes by the recommended order, so if I'm not interested in the one supposed to be first, I already know that maybe that will not be my favorite route, but I have the other ones that probably will be more to my liking 😌

Yes. I'll try to give it a chance and play a second route, but if I've finished two routes and still don't like it, I won't continue the game.
