Do you prefer playing 3D otome games or 2D ones?

It depends on the story and characters.

I'm willing to suffer through tremendously on art if storyline and characters are great.

I'm also one of those people where someone's fanart can shift me into a fan of a game whose art style never appeared to me.

I still do seem to lean towards 2D as that's what I grew up with. It's..like the staple of dating sim visuals when you think of a VN or dating sims: 2D models.

There's actually very few 3D games I have played as most are gachas but there's been a couple on itch and I've enjoyed them, not because of 3D, but, of their content.

It highly depends on the art style. 3D is alright as long as it's not as realistic as LADs though. xD they look alright but it sometimes freaks me out. 2D has always been my go-getter, but with the rise of vtubers- I'm not sure if it's just me but a lot of newer 2D otome games have designs that makes me think of vtubers which is uhh;;; especially when it's voiced too;;;; but the great story helps me get over the art and designs.

I prefer 2D.3D still feels a bit unfamiliar, and I feel that creating detailed parts is more difficult than in 2D.

I've played some 3D titles in the past, but I'm biased towards 2D art. Since I play mostly visual novels, I think I enjoy the composition of 2D CGs better than 3D ones. I also think some 3D games can look a bit uncanny sometimes lol
I also think that right now you see more intricate designs in 2D titles, as most 3D ones are developed for mobile games and have to account for performance

That doesn't mean I think 3D games are bad though, I'm open to trying new ones with interesting visual styles. Since there's not many 3D otome titles now, we don't know how their style will develop in the future, so I may end up being surprised by them in the coming years
Same here, im actually kinda curious about how 3D otome games will turn out in the future too. But since this is otome games we're talking about, it'll probably take a while before we can really see any specific changes.

Even tho I tried 3D otome before lads (I forgot the title) but I'm more prefer 2D. Like I'm okay with some of 3D JRPG but kinda awkward 3D otome bc I feel like looking at the same #D models even tho there're some of difference between all charas

I'm 100% on the 2D side of this! For me, the charm of an otome game is being able to appreciate the unique art style and the vision of the illustrator. There's a level of detail and expressiveness in 2D illustrations especially in the eyes and the hair that 3D models just can't replicate yet
I feel like 3D often tries too hard to look "realistic," which actually makes me feel more disconnected from the story° i'd prefer the "anime" aesthetic because it feels like stepping into a beautiful, fictional world. Plus, 2D art is just so much more versatile; you can have such intricate, fancy character designs without them looking "off" or glitched like they sometimes do in 3D
2D is just more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing for me ~

If the story and character designs are good then I don't mind either 2D or 3D. But if I am to be forced to choose only 1 when both have equally interesting story then I'll go with 2D lol

Omg no, I hate 3D otome, especially when it forces you to self-insert because you're put in the MC's POV like LaDS. There's a reason why I only pursue fictional, 2D men!!!! Also this is a matter of taste but I prefer 2D than 3D in general anyway. Unless it's like RPG with romanceable characters, though I don't know if it still counts as otome, then I don't mind the 3D visual

2D,可能因为2D更经典,也感觉现在的3D没有那么精致。(´ཫ`)

2D, probably because 2D is more classic, and I feel that current 3D is not as exquisite.(´ཫ`)

I used to be into 2D games, but as 3D graphics have gotten so much better, I actually prefer 3D now.

I'm also curious about how 3D technology will develop and be applied to otome games. However, most commercial premium otome game studios currently lack both the technical expertise and sufficient funding to develop full 3D titles. Given the current sales performance, sticking to 2D production is still the more reliable and prudent option.

I don't know if it's just me, but it feels like LADs rarely show anything exept faces. Guys get too close to screen and MC constantly touching them makes me uncomfortable. They have beautiful aesthetics, why show only 10% of it? At least in 2D there is more to look at
I agree! As an old (mobile) otome fan, I'm more of the open to new things type so I'm not against 3D at all, but it is disappointing that the more immersive first person POV lads brings lacks... actual view? Maybe because the default orientation is portrait, so when mc is close to the man (which is like most of the time), he unavoidably fills up the screen. Having the game fully or at least the cutscenes in landscape might fix that I think. Which is why! I'm looking forward to Silent Whispers since it seems like it's gonna be in landscape, plus they said it's an open world so I hope it'll bring more (beautiful) views as a 3D game.

I tend to prefer 2D otome games. I find the illustrations, unique atmosphere, and presentation to be more emotionally resonant, which makes it easier for me to immerse myself in the characters and the story.

I used to be into 3D graphics, like, pre-LADS release. I once wished for FF like graphics in romance settings. It sounded like a very cool concept, until I actually picked LADS.
Before LADS I already was into some otome, though not as many as today. I found myself being more attached to the LIs from console VN games than I did attaching myself to the LADS characters. I personally like Caleb, but the game/narrative system lowkey feels like a mess to me compared to how the otome VNs tend to do their own. Which is highly likely related to LADS being a gacha.
And so, I think about the hours I spend staring at every single Ankou art existent (sprites, CGs, merch, promo art, and so on) and thinking about his character, and the conclusion I reached is: so far a lot of 2D otome games are much better than what we have in terms of 3D.

2D otomes since there are some 3D otomes that don't look so polished, the only 3D one I really like is Love and Deepspace because they are very detailed. I feel like some of these 3D otomes just look like models from MMD.

I prefer 2D in general, whether in animated movies/series, video games, or visual novels.

I personally prefer 2D, as I mainly enjoy game's stroy. If the gameplay focuses on the storyline and the characters' personal stories, it feels less stressful and more accessible. Furthermore, 2D games can utilize Live2D to showcase a wider range of facial expressions and movements for the characters. The artwork and illustrations are what really draw me in.

Generally speaking, 3D games tend to incorporate more interactive mechanics with characters, offering a more varied gameplay experience. They also provide a greater sense of immersion and feature dynamic action sequences that can only be achieved in 3D. Although they're great fun, I find them a bit stressful to play.

I prefer 2D. Personally, I'm not really into realistic 3D styles.

I like both, but in 3D games, Prisoner of Palma and Love and Deepspace have visuals that I find very beautiful.
