What do you think of female routes in otome games?

I think there should be some more route with females characters with the possibility of turning into a romantic relationship so that everyone can play and choosing whichever they prefer =)

I don't mind if they're there, but I don't play them. If I wanted to play those kinds of routes I would just play yuri or bishojo.

I'm talking about routes where, instead of a male lead, there's a female lead (of any kind). Examples include Pashet from Ozmafia, Vivaldi from Heart no Kuni no Alice, and Jaehee from Mystic Messenger.
I know there are very few, but honestly, I feel like the vast majority are boring and focus mostly on friendship—something that many otome games include without needing to create a special route for it. Plus, I just don't like female routes. When I know there's one like this, I prefer to skip everything to collect the CGs and finish the game that way.
Agreed. If it's only one route, I will play it, if its more then I might now even be interested in playing the game at all since it would just feel like a waste of money.

I don't mind female routes being included, but they're not really my thing—I usually just collect the CGs :3

I looove female LI routes. Totally understand why people aren't into them though. I'm kind of outside of the norm because even though I love my otome boys I like the ladies IRL. If anyone has any suggestions for good Fem!LI routes let me know 👀
i'm the exact same tbh! i understand why people don't like female LIs in otome games but i really enjoy the few routes i've played

i also think i like the occasional yuri route because otomes are written in a very female gaze way (considering the target audience is women), while yuri sometimes is clearly written by men and with male readers in mind and in those instances it ends up feeling kinda icky and fetishising to play :( obviously doesn't happen every time but yknow...

I love a good Female route in Otome especially when it's girl love but often times the female route can be more boring then male routes or less dramatic or sometimes the female is often just portrayed as a damsel in distress like I hate when the female route is just about the MC playing knight in shining armor for the female LI

If they're done well, yes.

Lots are just a friendship route with a tone difference.

And I don't like where it's a stigmatized relationship; I want happy, cutesy scenes!! (◕ᴗ◕✿)

I really enjoy it! What surprised me most while playing the GS was the female routes — they're just friendship paths, but they come with their own exclusive endings!
我真的很喜欢!玩 GS 系列时最让我惊喜的是女性角色路线——虽然只是友情路线,但却有自己专属的结局!

I really enjoy it, don't get me wrong I do enjoy strictly male otome but it's nice to have different options maybe I am a bit spoiled being a COG player. The one otome game I played recently Trouble Comes Twice was super fun since it allowed players to play as twins one male, one female and romance both guys and girls.

I don't mind them at all! I actually think they're really cute, at least when they're done well.
I got really excited about Pashet but... well. It turned out to be a bit of a disappointment.

It's fine to tackle a side branch while working through a walkthrough, but if the route is too long, it starts to feel like a waste of time.

I don't think the friendship routes for the female characters are necessary. I'm playing with the goal of completing the game, so I find the female routes boring and difficult to enjoy.

I'm all for it.

I'm just not really into the trope where I think someone is a guy, only to find out they're a girl.

I prefer characters who have distinctly feminine traits.

I don't mind as long as they're done well and not just exist to yuri-bait the player.

I just think that then that's not an otome game anymore. It'd be just a romance game and that's okay. Otome isn't a label that should be pasted on anything even remotely related to romance. Let's not treat it as a buzzword...

I'm totally fine with it. It can showcase the heroine's unique personality and charm, showing how she would handle certain situations without the male leads around. That in turn can reflect the depth of her feelings when she falls in love. Plus, depicting the emotions between women can be wonderfully done as well.

I haven't played the titles mentioned, but I don't think they're necessary.
I'd rather see those resources allocated to male characters instead.

I don't really have strong feelings about female routes — I just play them for gallery completion.
They're not something I actively look forward to, but I also don't dislike them.
If a game includes female routes, I'll still go through it — but mostly because I want to unlock all CGs, all endings, and fill out every page in the gallery.

Female routes tend to be short, open-end and no variation, often stop at deeper friendship than actual romance, so I don't care about it too much. It sometimes reads like a "bad" end when none of the male routes are interesting enough so the mc goes to the female.
