What do you think about handsome male characters you can’t date?

i try to get to the routes with as much dialogue from them as possible lol or try to find fanfics about them ; ;

The sweetest apple is often out of reach 🥲 like Simeon from Obey Me, I played when it's first released and the angel was the only one I wanted, I think he's romanceable now but sadly I dropped the game. Anyways I just browse the entire game for crumbs about them and then indulge myself in fanfiction

I see many familar sub-chara names in this thread and feel the similar tensions deeply. I'd either imagine for myself or determine to make a game in the future with all the character traits that aren't allowed in current mainstream narratives' LIs (come join me no).

It'd be nice if you could romance side characters in the sequel.

A few non-LI characters are very handsome, exactly my type, but they don't have routes. This makes me hope that they'll get routes in the FD.

I feel sad for not being able to win them over 🥹 (since that's the joy of otome games, isn't it?) There are many secondary characters who would treat the protagonist a thousand times better and would be the best routes/boyfriends above the vast majority of love interests.

Disappointed! I just pine away and hope they'll be in the fan disc. I feel like the creators know you want to go after the handsome side character, dangling them in front of just out of reach to tease.

A bit of an unpopular opinion here... I love handsome side characters as much as the next person, sometimes more than the LI. I can't even count how many times I replay a game for that specific character. But sometimes I don't want them to get a route, you know? I think the charm of some of them is that their side characters; fun and interesting, but unromancable. I don't think people would gush about them this much if they had routes from the start. (╥_╥)

I have discussed this problem with my friends before. I met many supporting role in the game whose character and drawing are more attractive than the main character, but it's a pity that I can't fall in love with him. Some of the official sequels can make up for the regret, but some are really a pity

feels like such a waste and it's lowkey makes me want to drop a game sometimes bc how tf do you write a character well enough to have people want to romance them & just not factor that in?

It sometimes almost ruines the game for me because I just keep thinking how he is so much more interesting than the datable ones lol

Gonna echo the sentiment that part of what makes a side character attractive is the fact that they're unattainable. Just like how movie adaptations can sometimes feel inferior to their novel counterpart, I think some things are just better in your imagination. I find that when side characters in the OG game do get routes or endings in the FD, it's often underwhelming imo

I honestly believe they make the side characters more intriguing and romantically compatible with the protagonist so we buy the fandisc for the small romance routes we get given then 😫

its so disappointing when i really find myself liking a character just for him to not be romanceable! so many side characters seem so interesting and have such good chemistry with the MC just to not be romanceable and it's so sad every time

Agree - a lot of times the side characters I like usually wouldn't vibe with the MC on a romantic level. It's more like I'M interested, but I don't think they'd be as interesting if paired with the MC. In my experience, they are either flags so green that they're probably more boring than the poster boy, the reddest walking red flag to exist and I wouldn't wish him upon MC, already interested in someone else and the thrill comes from the fact he's unavailable and it's fun to play with the idea of "stealing" him. When games come up with mini routes from them in the sequels, they never quite hit the mark precisely bc of those reasons. They are side characters for plot reasons.

Unless of course, the game has that type of unhinged plot then yeaaaah! I'll take them all. :3

Maybe it's better to have characters who aren't good-looking in supporting roles.

Otherwise, I'll end up suffering later on 😭
