Are you okay with ROs pursuing someone else?

Honestly? It doesn't feel good. Like… at all.
I don't care if they have past dating experience or whatever — that's totally fine.
But in Blackish House, there's Nayuta's ending where he ends up with someone who isn't the MC, and that was genuinely awful to sit through. After spending all that time with him — bonding, building chemistry, watching the relationship develop — and then suddenly he ends up with someone else? It feels like betrayal.
Like, we shared all that emotional buildup and then I'm just… what, a stepping stone? I know it's fictional, I get the logic behind it, but emotionally it just makes me feel like I got replaced.
I can appreciate the realism, sure. But when I'm playing an otome, I'm there for my route. Seeing Nayuta end up with someone else after all that development just makes me feel like an intruder in my own story.

It's OKAY to see it, but if that keeps going until the very end, it is really frustrating. Especially, if it depends on the very last few options, I cannot believe on them even in happy ending routes.

i don't mind it in life sims since it's easy to miss rival events if you know the schedules and what not, and i usually do pair up the characters i'm not interested in with their rivals. same thing with games like fire emblem, i usually marry the same 3 characters then play matchmaker with everyone else

for otome games though, i dislike it. i heavily prefer keeping it open-ended because i don't need to know that another girl can actually fix this man and not the heroine. i guess im more of an otome traditionalist since an integral part of this genre to me is that all the LIs must only love the heroine

No, never. They can have their own "personal life outside of MС" when I finish the game.
I really really don't like when in game ROs can date someone else or even worse each other. Yes, even if I'm not on their route. Because it's so funny when they are like "you are my everything", "if not you then no one", but in a different route they date someone and everything is amazing! Just what? I want to be the one and only for them. I want to be the whole world for ROs. It's a game. A game focused on romance, so let me at least be the one and only at least in dating sim romance game. Let me feel this uniqueness and necessity. Feel the tension, the thrill, the fight, eager and desire to be with MC. I speak purely for myself. But I want to feel in the game the joy of knowing that I am the only and irreplaceable one for my beloved.

I think it's actually quite nice, if it's done well. If I haven't chosen a particular character's route, why shouldn't they get a bit of happiness with another heroine ;)?
I really liked this in Harvest Moon: Animal Parade and I hope it makes a comeback in future games. Norn9 was cool too, though at first I was a bit surprised that different heroines had different characters to choose from.

it depends on the game tbh. in farming sims, i actually like it bc it makes the world feel more real and romance isn't the main focus of the game anyways. in IFs or otomes, it usually makes me avoid those ROs routes as i feel like MC is intruding on the 'true' pairing (since its the one that exists in like every timeline except the one where MC pursues the RO). i get that it's unrealistic to expect ROs to never find love outside of MC, but in romance games it feels awkward to watch ROs have a happy romance ending that doesn't involve MC.

I'm on side that dislike when RO's when not on their route end up with someone else (be it otome, IF or VN's) during the course of the game. Like pepsinig mentioned it make me feel like third wheel and I know they're just pixels but it's annoying especially when I do someone else route first and have no idea that there's "mechanic" like that, after it it's just hard to romance that char. It's unrealistic but I don't mind, for realistic things I have irl or other types of games.

Sorry, I'm going to sound really selfish in this comment. 😵‍💫😓
Personally, no, I don't like it when they develop relationships outside of the one they have with the protagonist. Even if it's not my favorite route, it hurts, and I'm being very selfish because I only want them to like me. The exception is past romances before the main story; I don't have a problem with those. For example, in Kago no Naka no Alicis, my favorite route, Maximilian had a past love, but I omitted or turned a blind eye to that detail (it was one of the few exceptions, because if I know they've been in love with someone else in the past, it bothers me, and they start to drop a bit on my list). But even if I choose another route, or if after the game they fall in love, develop feelings, or have a relationship with someone else, it hurts and leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Of course, unless I dislike the character at that moment, I don't feel anything. 😅

It makes me sad when the love interest ends up with someone other than the MC.
Since it's fiction, I want the MC to be the only true love.
I don't want the MC to be treated like a third wheel. It's uncomfortable.

When I was younger I didn't like it as much- mainly it was in Harvest Moon. I got jealous, even if I wasn't interested in the LI so I would purposely try to avoid triggering rival heart events lol. Now I don't mind as much. It's nice that everyone isn't forever alone if you don't choose to pursue them. I suppose I might not like the pairing if it seems toxic, but if they're happy then it's a good thing. Unless their relationship seems better than what they would have with the MC, because then I'd feel bad!

I don't like it when this happens, and I know it sounds selfish, but it's literally a game where you romance potential love interests. I once read a comment from the Seduce Me developer about how in the sequel all the romantic interests have partners, except for the route you're playing, she argued that this was normal since they moved on with their lives once you chose a different route. But it kind of ruined the experience for me. In fact, it's a game I haven't played again and don't plan to.

No, i don't like it.
In real life relationships, monopolizing is of course not acceptable. But this is fictional media where you get to be the main character. And I want to indulge in my selfishness for a media that lets the world revolve around me. I want them to yearn me in other routes. I want their attention despite not in their routes. I want to ---

Wait..I'm starting to sound like..

I know this happens in patch 1.7 of The Goddess Of Tears -Daybreak-. Katarina romances every LI that Philia originally does. Personally, in games where there's at least one route where dating guys isn't the original protagonist's priority (as is the case with the Daybreak route of GTD), I don't mind an LI pursuing someone else, as long as the romance with a different protagonist feels believable.
Wow, is that really the case? In the remake of the game, Katarina is only able to romance Gizeld, Salinus and Shade. I am really curious about this patch but can't find a review anywhere.

No, I'm petty.

I do not mind prior partner histories but unless it's a plot line to come back or get back with MC, I'd rather have that energy or time invested back towards the story for MC.

I can see how others who don't self-insert wouldn't mind or enjoy it.

nah i'm team love interests are for the mc only. a love interest finding love outside of their route is enough to make me dislike them and make their romance with the mc meaningless to me

Eughh kinda? It depends on how much I like the characters or if, like in rune factory 2, it affects the kids born then I don't mind it but otherwise I'm kinda selfish and want all the love interests. (Poly mod on stardew valley? Yes please haha.)

I'm in the camp that doesn't like it. I can totally accept it if it's about a past relationship, but I don't like it when the story depicts it as something that's currently happening.
