We all have that one take about a beloved otome that we keep to ourselves because the fandom would eat us alive.
Could be a classic you think is overrated, a fan-favorite LI you found boring, a 'masterpiece' route that didn't land for you. Anything goes as long as it's about a title the community generally loves.

are opinions about the genre itself allowed? if so,

voiced heroines. everyone loves them, everyone wants them, and i am no exception! BUT. i see exactly zero reason to have a voiced mc in r18 otome (which, to my dismay, tend to be the majority of them. r18 otome titles have more voiced heroines than all-ages ones. this is my purgatory). come at me, but i just cant imagine it being done for any reason other than trying to attract a male audience, which just goes against the entire genre. shouldnt otome games be appealing to women first and foremost? why would there be stuff for men? and honestly, every time i check a man's vndb page, the only otome games played i see are exactly that, r18 titles. speficially fxxk me royally and fashioning little miss lonesome, both of which are written/drawn by men WWWW

this is another point, and please dont shoot me for this (or feel free to, since this is the entire point of the thread), but i see no reason to hire men to produce otome. like, soundtrack and coding are okay, but scenario or art? big no for me. we already have examples with aforementioned fmr or flml, but there are (were, since they stopped producing otome games thank god) also succulent titles, which somehow combine both voiced heroines AND male artists. why. why. why is this accepted. why
(i know women love their erotica too, and i often see praise towards heroines body in smut manga aimed at women, but is it because women actually love seeing mcs sexualized, or is it because there is literally no other choice on the market?)

I've had the same thought. When I play R18 otome games, they usually have voice acting for the heroine too. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but hearing the heroine's voice often makes me feel uncomfortable — like it's from a male gaze perspective. Most R18 content tends to be darker or more twisted, and the sounds of the heroine in distress just make me feel really uneasy.

yup yup! it just feels fetishistic if anything.. i know malegaze and femgaze are different (malegaze is physical, femgaze is psychological), but why would you try to empathize on both in a game specifically for women?? i really would love to get a glimpse into the mindset of japanese players (female only obviously) and gamedevs to actually understand if its a direct demand or an attempt to bag two demographics at once.. i just dunno lol;;

Personally, I think the developers are just trying to appeal to a wider audience. There are a lot of male players who enjoy R18 romance games, and what draws them in is often the thrill and the adult content. These players tend to put themselves in the male lead's shoes, so they end up viewing the heroine from a male perspective. That's probably why giving the heroine a voice fits that kind of experience. Of course, this is just my guess, lol. :akazukin_dead:

yeah this makes a lot of sense, but also completely turns me off lol.. i really hope there are more female-oriented r18 otome games in the future (what a wild thing to say), especially if the heroines are not voiced!

I'm also hoping for more good R18 otome games — ones that are truly made for female players~! So I can enjoy the game without that uncomfortable feeling.

honestly, the point about men being hired for the writing is really interesting, it's not something i'd ever stopped to think about but it makes total sense. Probably explains some of the awful scenes i've come across lmaoo

eh i mean women are perfectly capable of writing some dumb shit too. case in point: succulent's yamano eiko (im a hater sorry), who REALLY loves her anal sluts and prostitutes. literally every game of hers features either an anal sex scene, a prostitute heroine or a combination of both at the same time lol. very telling that both before and after she started writing otome, the only titles she worked on and still works on are some trashy nukige for men

either way i just kinda.. dont believe men know what women like well enough to write an attractive female-oriented story, especially for a r18 game. sorry..;;

Drop the hidden/locked routes. I used to be a completionist and would be so happy when unlocking a mystery route, but now that I have less time, it kinda annoys me. Especially if the route only unlocks after getting all the bad endings to every single character. Please just let me skip to this mysterious hottie

This!! I always get a bit turned off nowadays that I have to go through so many LI's just to play a single route that caught my eye the most. I used to be a completionist as well, but now I just wanna go to the routes I find the most interesting... (ᗒᗣᗕ)՞

I dislike most of Otomate's games and I wish there were more discussions around non-Otomate games. Their games feel bland and overall similar. It's understandable though, considering their popularity and the English localizations.

Similarly, I wish otome games would take a page from other vn genres and be more creative in their writing. Not that there are that many companies making otome games though. I appreciate AmuLit for their atypical route structures and storytelling at least.

Participating in resurrecting this thread because I'm tired of seeing anal sex in every other situation voice… What do you mean half the time the listener is a virgin and about to do anal immediately too?

I hate how it's so prevalent in R18 otome media in general. My disappointment is immeasurable when I check a R18 otome on VNDB and see it tagged (;′⌒`)

OMG YES THIS IS SO TRUE AS WELL!!!!!!!!! with the recent rise of fujoshi trying to overtake and ruin the otome floor too, it just feels like a malicious attack to suit their fetishes and push actual customers away.. whats so great about anal anyway? like i understand having them in a succulent title, because yamano eiko wrote tons of danseimuke nukige and men LOVE that shit so she apparently couldnt just switch gears, but what could be possibly the point of putting it in a joseimuke media? i know otome audios lack vocal males and male moans, but this can be achieved without something that goes directly against female pleasure.....;;

im not listening to grmn audios anymore because theyre scummy assholes, but apparently their latest audio had some anal egg laying or something too, and like. why. why? women have vaginas, no? egg laying from vagina is a common tag in nukige, no? what could possibly be the point???

Honestly a work might not even explicitly include anal but the moment I hear the guy describing the listener's ass… (@_@;) The obsession with anal from straight men is insane—you can keep your no-lube BS on your floor. I used to dabble in TL works too, but the focus on the heroine's body was always insane. No, I don't want to see a close shot of MC's asshole…

Yeah, huge no on GRMN… I saw the cover for a recent work with a dude holding anal beads… Outside of GRMN I'm a huge lover of femdom, submissive men, and vocal men in general, but now so much has been tainted that I've hidden many audios I bought in my library.

this is a slippery slope apparently, and im sorry if i misunderstood and therefore am talking about a different point, but i often see comments from female readers who praise the beauty of female body in doujinshi? like, japanese readers are not exactly turned off by focus on a woman's body in manga. hell, this is part of a review under aizawa anji's work i read yesterday!

listening to audios is extremely dangerous these days, because even on lovecul, there apparently was a situation literally a week ago where ANOTHER fucking circle added bl shit to their audio. the kicker? it was an onnaseme/femdom audio! what the actual fuck? i guess men who are dominated by women just cannot be heterosexual under any circumstance?? what a joke
while we are on the topic, heres a huge ass list of circles that are involved in the bl shit currently
1778375603856.png

grmn is obvious, cherry sound directly supported their bl crusade, kzentertainment i think used their otome character for a bl audio without even changing his name, アメとムチ is a new grmn circle, saitoshion has been publishing bl shit on otome floor for years now, and side404's main scenario writer called otome lovers lowlifes. others have connections with fujoshi grmn writer or other bl writers

Ah, sorry if that came off wrong! I have no issue with that—more so when you barely get to see the guy and 99% of the panels are exaggerated shots of the heroine's chest or something similar that makes me question who the target audience is. I've even read some where the guy will be made faceless in the few panels he does fully appear in…

Whew, the otome situation voice community is in shambles right now… I unfortunately already am aware of the goings-on and the aforementioned circles because even if I try to ignore it, people keep slipping up and trying to cover their asses. I'm always free to rant about this topic, ngl.

oh yeah youre definitely correct on that.. its also pretty obvious which authors usually write/draw for the general floor too. theres this Extremely Popular doujinshi that is sold on the otome floor but looks like.. well, that. and when you check the circle, you can see that this is the only "otome" work in the sea of danseimuke works. what the fuck?? just because a woman feels good doesnt mean the manga or comic or whatever is aimed at female audience.. they really treat the otome floor like a trashcan huh..

aw im sorry for repeating then!! well maybe other forum users will stumble upon the discussion and see the list and maybe reconsider listening to them in the future too..D:
and yeah lol this topic infuriates me to no end but at least i feel glad when i have people to discuss/rant about it with..! so thank you lmao;;;;

Could I ask which circle it is? I'd like to blacklist them too, so I don't accidentally buy their works in the future, I'm really disgusted by this kind of storyline, May the world accept heterosexuality 🙏🏻
Also, here is my blacklist of things that involve BL storylines.😡

thats a little harsh;v; any genre has a right to exist, but at least make sure to separate them.. bl and otome are total opposites, there should never be any bl in otome works..!!!!;;

unfortunately i dont know the name myself since the girlies discussing it were extremely vague.. but you should kinda avoid any onnaseme/femdom long-running series, because i guess fujoshi writers are adamant to ruin already existing works..:(

ahhh thank you so much!! ill block them all immediately..!
though i have to ask, wasnt warm bath hit unfairly? they did put out a statement that there will never be bl shit in their works, and even girlies who were mad eventually admitted that warm bath wasnt exactly guilty of anything.. or did they collaborate with the same writer that ruined garumani original?;

Hahaha, I was just being sarcastic, Because some BL fans these days have gotten way too arrogant.

I also saw her explanation, but personally, I choose not to forgive her. Because it's true that she participated in writing the script for grmn, she even reposted that work at the time. And she didn't come forward to explain herself right when the controversy first started, Instead, she waited several days before saying anything. It really feels like she only came forward to explain because she realized there was no more money to be made, That's why I choose not to forgive her.

Jumping in because I'm quite literally gay but I'm baffled seeing a lot of BL fans immediately jump to calling people who want to enjoy strictly otome works as being discriminatory (@_@;)

Honestly this goes both ways, like, damn, why are you saying fuck me for when you're mainly fighting female BL fans… This is about some of the people opposing GRMN but broadly bringing in actual LGBT for no reason.
