What pulls you first when getting into an otome game/BL?

First off, it's gotta be the art style and the story. And another really important thing is the main character's personality, this can honestly decide whether I end up running into stuff I just can't stand.

For me, characters and story are the most important. I'm also drawn to unique settings you don't see often, and games with well-developed romance.

art style and character designs are the first things that pull me in and make me want to play a game. i know it's a bit shallow, and i've played games with art styles i didn't love, but i feel like the art style is what draws me in. once i start playing, the story/writing needs to be good to keep me invested.

For me, it's the game's setting first. And if there's a character that really catches my interest, it makes me want to play it.

i think for me visuals first, if i like the art style then i try the game, then the story is what determines if i continue with it or no. sure it's a plus if it's from a developer that i know and enjoyed their games before but it doesn't really play a role on my actual decision to play the game or not

I would say that the art and love interests are what get me interested in the game first.

i see for most people it's about the art style, but some mentioned the game setting and i never really considered it. but i guess it can also play a role, though for me i think if the story is good i enjoy almost all settings or genres

World building and the personality of the MC. If there's no personality then it must be the dynamic of the love interests, I hate ones that only revolve around the MC I want characters that have good and bad traits, that talk to other people, develop friendships or rivalries etc. :)

Adelta games always catch my attention but can you believe I find the gameplay slow? Since there's almost no choices it's like a book, and although I love books for a game itself I take soooo much time to finish it. I'm literally playing Hashihime again because I stopped mid Mina's route 2 years ago and forgot the plot so I'm back at the start. Love the visuals but the story is so confusing at first. I heard UuultraC is even slower at first

Oof. Right now I'm still stuck in Hanazawa's route... Doesn't help that I don't like him very much compared to the other guys TT_TT

I've known a few folks who strictly enjoy post-apocalyptic stories and actively seek them out...

I myself am very big on fantasy and do not care much for sci-fi...

But I agree with you, if the story is good I can eat anything up XD

The first time I played I skipped his route… I do not recommend doing that because now I need to play it again because I felt guilty for doing that

characters with glasses and if i find out they're real yearners and/or obsessed with the mc i'll play it right away. i'm also big into butlers so anything with a butler will be played

The most important things are the writing style, the story, and the characters. I love detailed, emotional portrayals. As long as the writing is good, I'm fine with everything else.

How it begins. Like a book, that first hook will make or break. But sometimes it's not always true.

I choose based on my taste in illustrations.

I also choose based on whether I like the heroine's appearance and personality.

What attracts me is the art style, the backgrounds of the characters and heroines. If the heroine has a unique personality, it feels more like reading a romance novel, and I become more immersed.

Also, the presentation, CG, and BGM when I click on the official website can be what motivates me to purchase.

When I see a beautiful or soothing scene on the official website, I find myself instinctively reaching for a save as that scene approaches…

I used to think art style, but now I lean towards story or concept.

There's so many pretty visual games with a lackluster story or overdone concept.

Now, something may have art that, personally, doesn't appeal to me but an interesting or unseen plot? I'm willing to give it a shot.

I'll adjust to art styles but bad or boring stories will never make me continue for the art. (◠ᴥ◕ʋ)

What first attracted me was the art style, followed by the character designs and the voice acting.

definitely the art style at first, and if there are one of the characters that catches your eye! i don't think many people will play if the male characters are unattractive haha
i also think the heroine's character setting is important, too

Hmm I think its the fanworks of the games that I see online
Actually maybe thats the thing that pulls me to any type of media in general
When I see fanworks that are so full of love and passion, I get inspired to play the game and enjoy it myself, and to better understand what made people love the game so much in the first place :3

1 The Artstyle > even if isn't the best to look at, it should be CHARISMATIC .
2 The Story > it doesn't have to be mind blowing , must be interesting to me at least .
3 The Characters > if the characters fail to woo me , it will not be enough for me to play .

I'd definitely prioritize games with a local translation; reading Japanese is just way too much work, lol. After that, it's all about nice art style.

for me, it's the visuals and the character. i'm not quite picky when it comes to story and theme, so i don't mind trying out something that isn't my usual cup of tea.

however, if i couldn't find at least one character who clicks with me and my personal type/taste, then the probability of trying out the game/media would be very very low.
