LI that you thought you will like but did'nt

i can't recall such disappointment from anyone from otome games.. but bl-wise, it's almost everyone from dystopia no ou except for suimei maybe. idk, i just expected something else. nothing in particular, but different. i cant explain it, but almost every route at different times makes me think "i wish it was written differently"

Tomomori from Birushana.

I guess it's because he felt OOC in his own route compared to how he was in the common route and other routes. Cough cough Benkei.
The messy monster lore dump didn't help either.

I don't dislike Hijikata Toshizou (from the Hakuoki franchise) as a character (i really do enjoy seeing him on screen), but i don't like him as a Li.

When i saw him in other routes (when i saw him in the cover of the game, he was the main reason i was interested in the game), he was cool, interesting, passionate, sometimes cold and to stuck on an idea but hey! It was part of his appeal that made me wanna play his route.

I felt a kinda whiplash when i started his route. I can't buy the idea that the cool Toshi i saw in other routes is the same Toshi acting as a Li...*sigh* that man sell me the idea that Chizuru (the MC) was a nuisance, sometimes a sister and ally...but most of the time, a nuisance ಥ_ಥ.

And that Kondou (his childhood best friend) was the most important person in this world to protect and care (and i do understand that part... but... Am i supposed to like a Li that shows more love to his comrades than the MC?) X_X
I like Toshi, but now that I read your comment, I think it was really the influence of his vision on other routes. I really felt a certain distance on his route and it made me miss something that I couldn't quite identify. But that's exactly what you said!

For me, it was Toma from Amnesia Memories, I had a cool expectation, as he was a childhood friend who would know more about MC than the others and could notice what she was going through, or that's what I thought, but that took on unexpectedly worrying proportions haha ^^"

i had high expectations but when i played his route it was somewhat lame to what i thought it would had

I have a lot, but the most recent one I remember is Yukimaro from 9 R.I.P., which makes me really sad bcs KENN is my second favorite seiyuu. I really tried to like Yukimaro, but he just isn't for me…

Probably Yang from Piofiore. He was one of the routes I was most excited to play because of his appearance, and also the bloodthirsty killer thing. I was hoping he would be a lot like Demento from Period Cube (who never got a full route, RIP) because I loved Demento. But instead I found his route to be ehh.

I think his route redeems itself in Hakuoki SSL, try giving it a chance when you can!

It's Kazuma for me as well. I played him first and he annoyed me so much that I haven't picked up the game again. The whole amnesia plot really put me off and it served literally no purpose and it was not romantic at all, I liked him up until that part came up 🙄
Then Yang from Piofiore, I had high expectations since I found all of the other characters really bland and everyone kept saying his route was so exciting since he is a villain and I absolutely adore villains but I didn't feel like he was well written at all, he was comically evil and he just didn't make me feel anything...

Okazaki Kei, but lowkey because of a dumb reason 😭 at first glance he seemed perfect to me because he looks good and i like his voice actor. i also love characters who love sleeping, sleep a lot etc. so i was excited for his route because he carries around a sleep mask! but then we learned that he doesn't even sleep much and it wasn't that much of a big part of his character so my hype died down FGHDYHJKSLWKWK
I also love characters who want to die and i remember seeing stuff like that about him online. towards the end of his route i was like damn you don't even want to die seriously SSHDJSDSYAFTPJ

Himuka from Olympia Soiree.
I liked that he had long hair and a mysterious vibe, but I was disappointed to find he was more childish than I had expected.

Adage from Steam Prison. It felt bittersweet. Didn't like how he acted with Mc at all, and what he did in his route, hmmm, it's a no for me

Toma from Amnesia (I'm sorry he's the one I always mention, but his route was such a surprise... and I didn't like the surprise lol). Jisoo from Dandelion wasn't what I thought it would be, and I was especially disappointed because getting his route was really hard for me. Harada from Hakuoki was also a character I liked (I loved everyone in Hakuoki), but his route wasn't really my cup of tea, and it was a pain to finish.

just done part of his route and I may drop it, but neji kokuto 🥲🥲
I'll probably rest from jack jeanne after this for a good while and then do Fumi and Kai
I got really confused at the development of Neji and his relationship with Kisa 😅😅
Jack Jeanne tends to take its time to develop everything carefully but the latter events in Neji's route come up very suddenly and I... find myself questioning the logic of some of these 😅😅
I do not understand how realizing the father might have been the one initiating the cheating instead of the actress leads him to... going to the beach to try and throw himself into the sea??? I understand he basically had writer block over a lot of stuff weighting on his head, but I don't understand why is suicide his choice to that???

Honestly Yang from Piofiore. He's like a big fan favorite and the fandom hyped him up so much as this super interesting character who is chaotic and a yandere, that his route was "the only one where things happened" and "the one who respects the protagonist the most" and "the most interesting one" and I guess I expected too much because of that? But as a character he was stale as fuck in my opinion compared to the action-filled plotline built around that route.

It didn't help that his cruelty as a mafia boss felt very... very... and I really mean VERY targetted towards women? In a way that was very uncomfortable for me:

Yang kills the women he's slept with and gets bored of. He kills us, the protagonist, in one of his endings too. After having already established some form of relationship with us, sleeping with us, he kills us. And what I mean with his cruelty feeling targetted is this. From my perspective, Yang's actions read too much like those of an actual femicide, and the entire route was about him harassing the main character from beginning to end until she trauma bonded with him, had (explicitly stated PAINFUL) sex with him and accepted him because "at least he admits he's a bad guy"? Nothing about that route sold me any chemistry or romance, just plain abuse that felt very pointed and directed at women.
There's a scene where Gil and Dante blow up a ship full of human trafficking victims and are painted as the worst of the worst because of it, and while that was fucked up too, they clearly saw them as unfortunate collateral damage, they didn't look at them and said "these women will die because we feel like it", which is what Yang does. And being self-aware of his own fucked up nature doesn't redeem him and that's fine, as a character I enjoy him in the rest of the routes, but not as a love interest. The other guys do some very fucked up stuff as well, but their plotlines and character backgrounds all feel more positively tropey? And leaning more towards mystery and intrigue that feels grounded in fantasy rather than mimicking real violent patterns 1:1, which is what I felt Yang's characterization did.

I'm not sure I explained myself correctly, but maybe it is because I'm very sensitive to the topic lol. In any case, like I said, he's a great character as an antagonist and part of the supporting cast, but... no one can pay me to say I believe there's anything like love in a relationship with him, at least in the first game.

Saborou from BYAKKO ~Shijin Butai Enrenki~

Only liked him in prologue It annoying when he call mc a woman every 10 seconds like I get it bro stop saying it I don't even remember or understand the plot of his route anymore
