A doubt about Hatoful Boyfriend

I finally managed to install HB on my phone and now I can finally finish the routes I hadn't done yet. When I first played this game, I got some weird endings with the crazy pigeon (I forgot his name, the one obsessed with pudding and sports) and Shuu. Just now I got an ending called "Song of the Foolish Bird" with the pompous and rich pigeon Sakuya (I was trying to get Yuuya but it backfired and I got his brother instead XD). I thought he was cute and his story was cool, but the ending was kind of inconclusive? Is it supposed to be like that or did I just not reach the right stats for a good ending?

I'm pretty sure "Song of the Foolish Bird" is supposed to be Sakuya's true ending, but the only difference I can remember between this ending and the other one he has off the top of my head is that in this ending, you get that one extra note after the discussion with him. The other ending just cuts abruptly IIRC. So I think it's just by design.

In my experience the alt endings for the birdies in this game feel a bit more gimmicky than true alternative endings, the "true" endings just add a bit more meat/fluff onto the initial ending you get, which makes sense since it's just a short-ish game but may not be everyone's cup of tea!

I've unlocked all the achievements in Hatoful Boyfriend and can confirm that the endings are rather short. But I suppose that was the intention, as the game itself isn't very long either.
Some endings are odd, whilst others are... very odd. But some of the storylines only make sense in the 'true route', which I really enjoyed. Much more than I could have imagined from a game about pigeons ;)

Seconding this! Most characters only have one "good" ending, although Shuu, Sakuya and Okosan have two. There's also some hidden endings to look out for ;).

The true route is the one that really explains what happens to all the characters and other endings start making more sense. It's one of my favorite VNs because of it!

Joining the true route enthusiasm train, because I loved it too! It gives development to a lot of characters and I ended up loving some birdies a lot more than I'd ever expected!

Also the shock of going from a fun game that pokes fun at the otome genre and its LI archetypes to "SIKE! WE'RE A MURDER MYSTERY NOW!" will always be awesome to me, I had to sit there for 5 minutes like "HUH?" when I first got into the true route material.
