What do you think about gacha and microtransactions in smartphone otome games?

This type of games,i would download it play it for a week -a month, then delete it

Gacha in otome can be not that annoying if the developers approach it sensibly, and you won't have to spend all your money just to get that one character. Personally, I have nothing against gacha. I rarely spend money on it and try to get my favorite character through my own efforts (though I don't often succeed 😅 ).

Personally, I hate it. I don't have that much money and I have a bad luck.
But I guess, it is a necessary evil nowadays, theese mechanics can be found in many games so there's nothing to be done

I don't like them, which is why I haven't tried LADS. I used to play a lot of gacha, I was one of the bigger whales back in the original Love Nikki days and those cute pixels were expeeeensive. I haven't really looked back at gacha games since then, except for now. 😭 I've been a little bit obsessed with Valkyrie Heart this week. But it seems easy not to spend on it atm, there's just not a lot of updates?
I don't think I'll be trying Light Night or what it's called either, I've seen other people saying it's very grind heavy if not p2w

I have played a few gacha otome games in the past, but I have been burned too many times by games ending service early. It is honestly heartbreaking when you can't see your favorite characters or revisit the story ever again once the servers go down. Because of that, I have been avoiding gacha lately—visual novel games are exactly what I am looking for since they are permanent and I can play them whenever I want!

As a LADS player, I have mixed feelings.
The bad (rant ahead... it's a lot I know):
Gacha mechanics ruin the story and relationship/character development for me, because most of the time the good stuff is locked behind limited cards. I don't mind paying, but I do mind when the price eats up my entire salary, not worth the price no matter how much fans try to justify it.
Gacha games plot must also be dragged out endlessly due to the live-service aspect, making it inherently detrimental to story-development.
Taking the most recent example, LADS is guilty of this. It had potential but the greedy company soon showed their true colors (not that they were ever hiding it...) by focusing on 1001 ways to wring out money from the players than writing a good story itself.
Gameplay mechanics become repetitive after a while, limited time events, limited time stories, limited time items.........soon everything becomes a chore. Truthfully I haven't played a single gacha game - otome or otherwise - that did not turn into a chore later.
Many gacha game communities are terrible to interact with too. It's not as simple as "just don't interact with them ez!!" because this isn't about making friends, it's about the community driving the decisions made by the company. Gacha games are live-service, meaning you could wake up tomorrow and find the most anti-consumer mechanism added into the game. The thing is, gacha fans community has the power to stop that. They just don't. Anyone who dares criticize their precious billion-dollar company would get dogpiled. The games keep making big cash each month and people celebrate it like its their personal achievement. Sad and funny at the same time.

The good - might be exclusive to LADS:
I hate to admit it, but the one thing I can appreciate is...they at least tried to make an otome game with 3D graphics and action combat.
I know a lot of female gamers want such a game. So do I. But no other company has bothered even though the market potential is there. It might be more complicated than what companies like Otomate, Broccoli, Takuyo etc can/is used to doing, but Konami, Capcom, Koei? They have made otome games. They absolutely have the budget and technology for bigger games. But female gamers don't get to have 3D action RPGs because that's for boys only /s We will keep getting turn-based otome or rhythm otome or stat-raising dating sim/otome before we ever get a 3D action otome.
In a way, I hope LADS' success can inspire other companies to experiment with more gameplay styles for otome games, and without the predatory gacha tactics. But my hunch tells me they will take note of the latter and not the former.

Gacha games rarely hold my interest, especially ones that need specific character pulls to see a hidden story, progress the story, ect. The only one I played the longest was Obey Me! since you were able to progress without needing to feel pressured into sinking money into it. You only needed to power up the cards to pass the battles to get the next story (of course higher tiered cards made it easier. e.g SSR, ect.).. but it's not too hard of a feat and not technically needed. Twisted Wonderland was a next good one after Obey Me!

for the older voltage games (the non love choice ones), i don't mind because it's per route. i used to not mind gacha because i loved lads so much, but when i went back to the traditional otoge i realized that the format for lads took away A LOT of my enjoyment of the game

i've always hated gacha games. sometimes i play them because my friends recc them to me and i want to engage in what they like, but im lucky enough that i am completely resistant to spending money on these things or am just not invested enough for it to work on me.

I'm used to the old format. Mobile games may have artificial limitations that slow down progress.

It pisses me off that I'm missing out on cute stories just cuz im broke/ has bad luck. That's pretty much the reason why I prefer one-time purchase games and TRYYY to avoid gacha otomes if possible.

Absolutely hate gacha mechanics. I don't play mobile games anymore because of them no matter how much I would want to

gacha system all suck and i say this as gacha gamer, i hate the gacha system so much i get burnt out after a couple years and eventually stop playing the game and just follow the lore and character's stories now imagine if its gacha in an otome game.... i played ikevil for a bit and gave up esp the gacha cards add to the story(events) ig tears of themis i give it a pass i cant believe im saying this about a hoyo game... but yeah overall i dont like my gaming experience to be dependant on whaling or luck

oh, I do not like it. Seriously, I don't know why I don't like them when I pay for skins and gacha tickets in PGR and Onmyoji. This is what people call duality of a person. Seriously, I have no idea why I don't like it so much. Maybe because it fills like it's limiting me? But then again, Onmyoji and PGR are very gracious with their prices so maybe that's why? I never though about this before until now...

I tend to avoid any type of gacha games or those with microtransactions. I guess I just don't have the patience for it all, like having to wait for x amount of times or pay, or getting bad draws, but I also don't want to spend a bunch of money, too. So it's just best if I avoid it altogether.

I hate gacha in otome games, but I do enjoy playing rhythm games. I hate gacha in otome games because I play otome games for the story. I don't want to have to scout for my fave character or pay to unlock a chapter/story (I don't have the patience to wait to play for free lol). For otome games, I want to pay once for the full game. Also, with these games the future is uncertain. If the game shuts down, the stories may be left unfinished and depending on how the company handles it, you may not be able to access content you unlocked/paid for ever again.

Annoying. I still do very occasionally (such as when have enough play points to redeem) mainly for the monthly or clothing/skin, but it honestly takes up too much time and commitment. Tried redownloading a few, but then it became a chore... and now all that money is gone! Rather save to buy a whole game on switch / PC etc

I don't mind for the most part but it just gets sad when a game ends its service and I can't see anything I spent my money on. Like I wish I could have access to the stories and stuff I paid for. For example, when MLQC ended its service like damn that was 7 years of my life all down the drain because there's no backup or anything for it.

I absolutely despise them, if I'm intrigued in a story I'd rather fully purchase the ability to read it in full instead of gambling. Gacha is just gambling for younger audiences. The greed sickens me 😫

While I would prefer none gacha systems, I'm ok with it as long as the storyline is not paywalled or the gachas are purely cosmetics.

Its lowkey a love-hate relationship. I hate how some games fully take advantage of the gacha system to make their players spend a ton of money or they either have to grind/wait for a LONGG time. It's annoying but I don't mind it personally. That adrenaline rush of pulling for characters or items is so good. Or maybe I have a gambling addiction LMAO

Compared to gacha and in-app purchase games, I prefer buy-to-own games. But mobile games have an advantage: the content can be continuously updated, and they provide a stronger sense of companionship.

Honestly, gacha is basically gambling, and with those microtransaction-heavy games, you're left with nothing once the service ends... If a card of my favorite character comes out, I'll definitely spend money to get it, but it's so sad when the story or concept doesn't live up to how much I spent. I'd much rather pay a higher price for a full, one-time purchase game.
