I played a certain otome game years ago but never finished it. I completed 2 out of 6 routes. I think I vaguely remember the plot and who the characters are. So I'm in a bit of a dilemma: should I start the game from scratch, or continue from where I left off? What would you do?

I think its personal preference but I'd just start from the beginning. I've got the memory of smooth rock and there's no harm in reliving the routes (unless they were boring - then maybe skip it).

I think it's up to you. Personally I restart from the beginning because my memory is terrible...so I might not remember certain details that happened during the routes I did complete.

I think it depends on you. You can start by continuing a route you haven't done yet and see how you feel while doing it. Does continuing it jog your memory and if not, are you comfortable/ok with gaps in your memory or things being confusing? For example, when they are discussing a topic or event that happened but you don't really remember. If you're not comfortable/ok with that then replaying from the start would be a good idea. If you don't have time or don't want to replay it all, maybe you can quickly skim through it and pay attention to major scenes/events. This is what I usually do when I return to a game I haven't played it a while.

I just continue where I left off and hope for the best😂I also read route reviews of the ones I've played to "jog" my memory.

Like I played OlySoi 5 years ago, so when I was playing the sequel a couple months ago, I was like "who on earth is xxxx?" And look up a review of Kuroba's route from the first game. It went into a lot of details, and that explained a lot of stuff for me basically.

我会选择继续。如果重来的话,总感觉虽然记不太清剧情,但又很熟悉,玩起来会感觉费时间╭(°A°`)╮

I will choose to continue. If I had to do it all over again, always feel that even though I can't quite remember the plot, it's still very familiar, and playing it feels like a waste of time ╭(°A°`)╮

honestly, picking up a game after a long break is sort of a separate little game to me..^^ i have a very bad memory, but when i read the vn, i kinda start piecing together the bits of lore/story characters drop in their dialogues, and its kinda fun! but maybe its too weird ww.. i do the same with manga btw!
i dunno, its just a lot of fun for me to encounter something and feel it pop up in my head again as a faded memory.. of course it doesnt replace the actual smooth 0 to 100 experience, but as long as it works!

so ultimately, i think it depends on how "vaguely" you remember the plot. if you spend 20 mins thinking "who the hell are all these people ive never heard these names in my life" when coming back, then it would probably be for the better to start from the beginning..! but as woodypei mentioned, you can try to read reviews online to see if jogging your memory helps!!:)

Up to you really. Everyone's different when it comes to this- one of my friends always restarts games if she left them midway since she never remembers what was going on.
On the other hand, I usually just pick up where I left off no matter how long it's been bc as soon as I start playing it's like a sleeper agent got activated and I instantly remember everything that happened up to that point lol

I usually just pick up where I left off, and usually don't have much trouble remembering the history! But it depends on the game, with mysteries I do like to restart to get a good grasp on the plot.
I'm the type to take a bunch of screenshots as well, so if I'm having trouble recalling something I'll just check them out to refresh my memory.

I think it depends on why you quit the first time.

Did you quit because you got bored of the game?
My vote is continue from where you quit. If I restart a game which I got bored of and dropped, I usually get bored again and drop it at about the same time.

Did you quit because of other reasons? (Switch/PC broke, irl got busy, etc)
Restart the game. You can enjoy the beginning again and have better context for the rest of the game.

Continue, if i forgot something, i would rather re do the route from beginning again or read someone's review about the route

I restart when its been awhile unless I only have one or 2 routes left then I'll just do the routes I havent finished yet from the beginning

i usually continue the next part If i don't remember what's going on, i look screenshots

Restarting can be such a hassle and otome games are for fun! I'd personally just continue wherever i left off and if after coming back you fall in love again with the story and charas then you can come back and restart the route you've played before.

I have a good memory for games; I might sometimes forget the name of a character x or y, but I always remember their role in the story or what they did. If you don't remember very well, I would recommend starting over or reading a summary.

It depends. If I don't remember well the story then I will restart, otherwise I will choose to continue

i'll only replay if i feel like i've completely forgotten everything but i recall having a lot of fun with the original route. other than that no i dont have the attention span to be replaying games im not fixated on

It depends on the game itself. If I like it, I'll definitely play it again. If not, I'll just pick up where I left off. (Although I often completely forget what happened and just start over)

I continue from where I left off. Even if it is been a while, I usually find that I have enough of a basic memory of the storyline to jump back in without feeling lost. Restarting feels like it would take too much time, and I would rather keep moving forward to see the rest of the story!

Two factors:
1. why did I drop it and now want to continue it?
2. how long ago did I drop it?

If I dropped it cause I was not interested I will skim the common route.
If I dropped it cause i ran out of time or got busy and was interested, I will replay it.

It depends on why I didn't finish this game at the time. If it was because the game's story was so boring that I found it hard to complete, I would choose to continue from a previous save. But if it was because I was always very busy during a certain period and too exhausted to finish the game, I would choose to start playing from the beginning when I am truly free.

Honestly if I can remember the plot and everything, I'd just choose to continue, but if I want to experience everything again and can't remember most of the details, I'd just replay the whole thing. Sometimes playing it again can bring back the interest!
