Do you use the in-game dictionary when playing otome games? If so, how often?

I don't use it often, but if there's some setting or lore I don't understand, I'll check it out—like the urban legend in 9R.I.P.

I use it for something i don't understand. Or when term is important to lore

I only use it when I don't understand a part of the lore! Or I accidentally zoned out/resumed the game after a long time, and need a refreshment

I usually never use it and outright forget about it most of the time, I feel most VNs immediately explain the concepts they introduce (as most written stories are wont to do) and if there's something with real-world concepts that I don't grasp then I tend to look them up on my own downtime. (Just because I deadass forget in-game dictionaries are there and I find them difficult to navigate)

Come to think of it, I've rarely used dictionaries while playing games. I've only looked for a few moments when I've played games that contain real history like Birushana.

I find myself using it quite frequently, specially in games with unique terms like Olympia Soiree

I remember only using it while playing Piofiore because some words were in Italian and I wanted to know more about the dishes they mentioned.🤭

I don't use them much myself, except in some historical terms. I also check if the dictionary is complete to know whether or not I got all dialogue options sometimes

I use it for difficult terms to understand what they mean. And for simple stuff, cos it's often explained in a funny way

I dont use it too often. I think Ive used it in Historical or mythological themed games, where their terms are complicated or made-up.

I remember when I was playing Hiiro no Kakera, I had to constantly look up the terms in its dictionary since its world building was so complicated lol.

Sometimes- either for historical/fantasy terms used by the game or for situations like in piofiore where they frequently mentioned food I wasn't familiar with

I feel pressued to collect all of the entries but... never actually read them.

I will use it if the concept of some things is complicated or very Japanese.

I like reading them as they appear (like when the word is first highlighted and you can "click" for the definition) as sometimes the world building and lore can get overwhelming, and I like having the definition with the context in front of me. I rarely go to the dictionary from the menu to re-read however, with the one exception being my playthrough of Birushana--I didn't understand the Genpei War at ALL before starting and had to immerse myself in a lot of historical knowledge I wasn't privy to before, and the dictionary helped immensely!

Rarely unless it is well-versed in the historical side or sci-fi side, and understanding the context really enhances the experience.

I like reading every text that is available to me in the games I play because I'm insane lmao! I love reading these definitions, even when I know what they are talking about I just want to read it because it feels nice to me hahahah

Unless it's specialized terminology, I just listen to it and move on. I used to look things up frequently, but it's just too exhausting.

I'm guilty of rotating from one otome to another otome 👀💦 So when I finally resume certain otome titles after letting it collect dust for weeks, I keep checking the in-game dictionary again, again, and again just to refresh my poor short-term memory 👵

Hakuoki one is brutal. I keep studying the damn dictionary just to understand what the f is going on most of the time. 😭 (reminder people, just play hakuoki or any other historical genre all the way till the end or dictionary will be your new bestie)

Thanks for reading to my yapping 🙇‍♀️
