What do you think about gacha and microtransactions in smartphone otome games?

I wouldn't even download them. In my experience the gacha/gambling mechanics seem to be the most aggressive in these games, and I'm trying to distance myself from this genre after playing Hoyoverse games. Plus I vastly prefer a complete visual novel where I know how much time I need to finish it.

speaking from experience, as someone who always has insane luck at losing gacha game, i humbly ask for this mechanic to perish. burn it to the ground. i would rather save up to buy a full game that has everything in it instead of spending hours on grinding (and even purchasing in game currency) only to lose in getting the limited characters that i want.

I avoid them. I don't like when parts of the story are locked behind the multiple paywalls, especially when there's no clear game ending.

I'll play if there are no in-game purchases in the story.
But I'm not really into otome games with too many in-game purchases.

I'm sorry but I HATE gacha otome omg,,,,

Otome games should only have like 1-2 paywalls max (buying game itself and MAYBE DLC), and you should be given all the content after that.

The only smartphone otome game that did it right was Mystic Messenger and I'll stand by that belief till the end of time!!!!!!!!!!

It's really hard for me to get invested in gacha otome. I've dropped even games from Ikemen series after two or three routes, where these mechanics are not very relevant to the main story, because I had a hard time staying engaged with the characters.
Games that have a lot of daily missions are also hard for me to keep up with, they feel like a waste of time, so I dropped LADS, Love x Producer and Tears of Themis pretty early as well :(

When I was younger, I used to play them. I was actually pretty addicted as a kid, lol. But now that I'm older, I feel kind of tired of playing gacha games. If the game has a really good story or attractive characters, I'll just look up and read the story online (huge thanks to everyone who uploads and shares them. I love you guys so much XD).

Gacha game is not for me because I become addicted pretty fast and spend a lot of money ( ; ; )but micro-transactions is fine like subscription of some sort!

I can't get into them at all... really they're so obnoxious and insistent on every level it immediately puts me off, and they tend to creep into every crevice of a game. The only game I tolerated microtransictions for in general (and this is a stretch) was Kingdom Hearts Union Cross up until it got shut down in 2022, because paying was entirely optional but it did make progressing past certain bosses easier. Even then khux hard had good gameplay (if it could even be classified as gameplay) and I never managed to make it past a certain boss in the middle of the main story campaign... re; the initial question, microtransactions in otome games feel especially predatory as they rely on their "consumerbases" active emotional investment in their "product," and they trap their audience in a bit of a feedback loop until they loosen their purse strings more and more. We've seen that the otome fanbase are incredibly dedicated and loyal, and I'm personally a little afraid at the idea of companies actually tapping into certain niches more. Really, I'm made very uncomfortable at the idea of giving a person a gambling addiction just so they can prove their dedication to a flat character to themselves lol, I also feel that these games built on a model of microtranscations tend to breed more toxic fanbases that punish its own members more. I also think I don't want to incrementally give a game company the money I could have spent on a full product just for the chance to get a virtual outfit or something. Feel like i went off a bit but I'm just concerned at how peoples need for escapism is being so ruthlessly monetized

Games that require gacha these days, I don't do it at all because it feels like I'm only after money rather than fun. Of course, not all gacha games, including Otome, but looking for those gacha games feels like looking for needles in the desert.

Compared to the gacha mechanism in otome games, what I dislike even more are the off-rate cards, the soft pity, and the hard pity.

Most of the popular otome games from china nowadays rely on gacha systems, and I understand that the companies' goal is to make a profit. However, not everyone is an all-in fan. Every time I get an off-rate card or hit pity, it diminishes my enthusiasm for the game. Just like the post in the image says—wasn't the original purpose of otome games to provide a sense of romance and companionship? If it happens once in a while, fine, but when it happens every single time, who can accept that?(♯`∧´)

Hate it with a passion and I hope it disappears asap. It will ALWAYS compromise the story and character development quality. I had a hard rule of not playing any gachas that I managed to stick to for a long time, I did however start playing Love and Deepspace last year and it reminded me of why I quit gachas lol. I still play it, it's manageable with one main for me, but I am noooot picking up any new ones.

I think its unavoidable If the game want to stay "f2p". So it's either gacha or locked story behind paywall

I hate gachas and microtransactions in general, but hear me out. Daily limits on the story progression! I mean the Ikemen XX games! Used to have the mechanic when I first came across them, but now I'm loving it! For someone like me who doesn't have a lot of free time it lifts up a lot of stress and pressure to 'finish the game' quickly. It's actually quite a nice pacing! And I don't feel like I'm being nudged into paying to read more anymore!

I genuinely hate it!!! I really wish they'd stop doing that otoges just don't work well as gacha games! You either have to get lucky or spend money just to unlock things, you know? It's so annoying.

Gacha sucks, and feels a bit redundant to an otome story, like what do you mean core plot point, or character narrative is blocked beyond the pay wall. I'd rather buy the game once for the entire experience, than pay for snippets that may or may not be good.

The only gacha I play is LaDS, and while I truly don't relish the gameplay loop and the pity systems for the card pulls I love the boys too much to let it go atm unfortunately. I'm lucky I have just the tiniest bit of disposable income to use for it when I want a card story bad enough, but I know that's a unique position and free-to-play is almost untenable after a while of playing. Plus, with Papergames recently announcing My Love Queen's Choice EOS, it makes me wary of how long I'll even have access to the stories I unlocked and has me wanting to simply screen record every story and add it to my hard drive so I can always see the content. It's hard, because I can acknowledge that LaDS has brought otome more to the forefront as a genre (the only "otome" ANYONE in my area seems to know is LaDS and it's quite popular with the young adult women around me) while also acknowledging it's predatory nature and how in my opinion it pales in comparison in a lot of ways to console/PC full release otome.

It's a toxic design, one reason I hardly ever play mobile titles. The recent Haruka by Ruby Party is ok with the monetization model, but what can be purchased are very limited, and the time sales are annoying.

Billing games aren't good. I don't like to ask for money at every critical moment, so I don't want the flow to go down.

I am a gacha no 1 hater LOL. Whenever I see any gacha mechanics, I am leaving.
Even though I don't mind phone games, the moment they introduce gacha I just stop playing :/

I'd rather pay for a route, or just the game itself but mobile otome don't really do that. You could buy routes on Shall We Date games a long time ago if I remember right but they removed them
