First Run in Otome Games: With or Without a Walkthrough?

I've been playing otome games since I was really young, so over time I lost the motivation to play without a walkthrough. Nowadays, I play 100% with a walkthrough.

First time I will do a blind playthrough. After that I will follow a walkthrough especially since I like to go through each of their routes

I look up if the route order is important first and if it's not then I play blind! If it is I will use a guide

And when I get into the character's routes I play blind and see if I get good or bad end first
I never do route order. Because usually someone's opinion is often wrong.

If the game has no defined route order, it generally won't matter to plot.

I do the same. I like to know who people suggest and why, then make my route choice. But I don't mind playing blind if there's no suggested order. It's fun to see who I organically end up with. Though after my first run I'll pull up a guide to save from guessing and backtracking for endings and cg's.

I'll first play through based on my own instincts, then try out the other characters. If there's still any unfinished storylines, I'll use a guide to continue playing.

Sometimes it's recommended by the game dev themselves in their blog. There are times where I disagree with certain route order by them or by the guide makers though ^^

There are certain otome games I wish has enforced route order, most egregious being Shinigami to Shoujo, that's why I look them up.

I'm a walkthrough fanatic, I even made a handmade walkthrough journal myself so I'm not constantly on my phone while reading otome. OtomeKitten is my hero and I adore her for always having well-made route walkthroughs accessible! Some route orders are recommended because of the slow release of bigger plot info over each one, and I love that! I'm also quite a chronic people-pleaser IRL which extends even to my gaming, so I never wanna hit the wrong choice and upset a character...and also with my adult life short on time I don't want to waste my precious free time guessing at how to continue the narrative to my liking.

I start by reading the walkthrough. Since I prefer the happy ending, I watch the bad ending first. That's why I play while referring to the walkthrough.

I used to really like playing games without looking at guides, but later on all the games I played got way too long and took forever. To be able to play more games, I started following the guides completely.

I have always used a guide. But the very next VN I play, I'm going in blind (at least to one route's ending).

Team guide-only. Most of the VNs I read requires special walkthrough order and without a guide finding the right path might be quite challenging and time-consumig. Especially when you using translators and can forget something and just lost in the game

It depends. I research about game before playing, and if it sounds like you can try to choose answers logically and succeed - I'll try.

I generally just play blind since at least for otome games it's pretty obvious which choices lead to what route/ending

If I get stuck getting the same ones (i.e. the game wants ALL the right choices to be picked but I diverged from one/two of them), I'll look up walkthroughs

I always check the route order regardless of whether or not I'm playing with a guide -- and it really depends if it's a more slice of life game or something heavier. If it's slice of life I'll go in blind because how bad can the bad endings get lol

I don't really have a lot of time to spare nowadays with recent otomes having multiple bad endings (looking at you Piofiore). So to avoid repeatingly getting into endings over and over, I've been using guides.

When playing, I always use a walkthrough so I don't waste time or ruin the atmosphere.

Walkthrough all the way! I'm the type who wants to get it right immediately but I do think the blind playthroughs are fun though but I don't know why when i try it 9 times out of 10 I would end up with the bad ending lmao

The first time I play, I won't use the walkthrough because I'm curious to see what my choices will lead to, but the second time I'll use it to get all the endings.

I do think there's something special about playing a game blind for the first time, but I've been using a guide because I'd like to get the good ending.

It depends but usually I go "blind" for first time or until first bad end If I can't beat it on my own then use guide/walktrough.
