Have you ever used a gamepad to play VNs on PC?

Sometimes I use a keyboard and mouse, sometimes a gamepad. I enjoy holding a gamepad because it makes a game feel more immersive to me, as if I were playing on a console. It's also more comfortable to use. Fortunately RenPy VNs support gamepads, and for the ones that don't, I use AntiMicroX to be able to play that way.

I use gamepads if the VN I'm playing is emulated VNs (like Switch or PSP), and usually it's for a few games too like TMGS.
But if it's just click and read visual novels, then I'd just use my mouse ☺️ I grew up using mouse to play visual novels so it's kinda weird for me to use gamepads lol
it's more simpler with mouse ig
 
Since I play on Switch, I have no choice but to use controllers. In general, I prefer a gamepad, but in the case of PC VNs, I go for a mouse and keyboard

I saw a like.. mini gamepad you can connect with your PC and I'm really tempted by it for Otome. lol.

Never. Though I have thought about a random remote or clicker or something similar with a 4 way pad.

I always use a gamepad. If the game doesn't have gamepad integrated, I configure it myself using Steam, iirc I did this for Club Suicide when I bought it from DLSite and then had to add it to Steam just so the gamepad would register on it, and then I made the mouse cursor controllable with the left joystick.
I just reaaaaally prefer to be able to sit back. 😅

Mouse when playing on PC, but since I play a lot using the Switch, I have to use the controllers too
 
I hate clicking the mouse, so I use this gamepad almost all the time. It works with Switch, PC and emulators. It's cheap, small, cute, and kinda perfect for otome games and VNs for me

That's a really nice color. I should get that one. I've actually been thinking of getting an 8BitDo gamepad for a while now. I originally looked into it as a Bluetooth page-turner for an e-reader, but the fact that it works with lots of operating systems and lets you remap the buttons is a big plus. I also like the fact that it's pocket-sized. I definitely want to try using it as a gamepad for VNs as well. Here's the model I meant: 8Bitdo Zero 2

I used mouse before, but after i bought wireless gamepad i started to use it on every VN game that supports it. With it, i'm able sit back or lie on bed while playing (but moving on the table monitor is a bit of a pain)

I only play visual novels on my phone or Switch, so I just tap the screen

I was also choosing between this, Zero2 and Micro. I ultimately settled on this one because it has sticks and is a full-fledged gamepad, although it's not as portable as the Zero and Micro (though I can use it with one hand😆). It works great with the Switch and Switch emulators, but sometimes there are issues with Win games. Connecting via Steam usually helps (I use it for key map), but not always. Surprisingly, it connected to Win via Bluetooth out of the box, and some games even recognize it without Steam. In short, it's nice, but there are software issues. Personally, I bought it for the Switch, and because playing VNs on PC with Xbox controller is just ridiculous😆

I prefer playing with a keyboard, except for console games (Vita, Switch). I usually play VNs in a laptop, so it's not as uncomfortable as a desktop PC. I never use a mouse for VNs.

I have two of these, in pink! I love the size, perfect for tiny hands and for travel. I keep one in my iPad bag.
Right now, I mostly use this one, since my desk is pink and kitty themed. It meows when you pick it up and put it back on the dock lol.

I use it when I want to lay down, if I am sitting I use keyboard and mouse

When I have time for a longer session I like to put my NS in the TV mode and play with a gamepad! Otherwise it feels like too much trouble lol
 
On the Switch, I only use the controller. But when playing visual novels on PC, I use the keyboard first, and only switch to the controller when my hands get tired.

Mostly a gamepad- it gives me the freedom to lean back more and lets me easily navigate most things with just one hand if I'm feeling extra lazy lol
Tho I did play a few steam vns using a keyboard&mouse- wasn't bad or anything but yh overall still prefer using a gampad for vns

Yup, I use a controller that's compatible with PCs and... unfortunately it's not wireless lmao but the cord is long enough that I can lie down on my bed or just. Walk in place while playing... that's how I've been getting most of my exercise these days haha.

My gamepad isn't wireless either, but it was pretty cheap so I can't complain, haha. Luckily I had a USB extension cable lying around, so I've got extra room. By the way, that sounds like a good way to get some exercise. I think I'll try it.
